i hear that amen, the stuff going on in the background is what makes this track, you got some great stuff going, and the aphex twin (and most likely squarepusher) influence is obvious. this is a lot like them but with your own spin.
that was awesome man! love the atomosphere you got going behind those great drums, the bass reminds me of proem. i dont think theres anything about this song i dont like, so amazing job there!
Thnx for the review. I never heard of Proem, so I just checked him out and sounds really cool. I can see some similarities which is great, because later on he could be of further inspiration.
this was a competition that i was involved in four other guys did the music and i wrote the lyrics, sang, and mastered! I also did a collage vid of this on youtube! here is the link!
i think i may have used one of those loops once or twice. yes they get way crazier, gantz graf (autechre) is a good example. this sounds mechanical, like a factory making things in a chaotic, though unseemingly orderly fashion
to start, i like the beginning. its kinda ambient with some cool drum sounds, but then you go to the bassline and it kinda ruins the effect. its not often that i need to say this, but it might actually be beneficial if you get a bass thats less in your face. second, i would start the drum roll in the buildup for the drop a bit sooner. and for some reason the volume cuts a bit in the buildup too
Yea the intro was thrown together quite quickly becuase i was specifically focusing on making a heavy bass synth. But i might try throwing in a different intro, because an intro does set the groove/mood/feel of the song, and i know i did a 180 degree switch on the intro. BUt thanks dude for the honest opinion ill definitly take it into considereation :) thanks. peacee
this puts me on edge, its like waiting to fight a monster that is searching you. very cool, the occasional silence kinda completes this (no matter how strange it sounds).nice job there
damn! thats the stuff! its been a while since ive found some new really good dubstep. my first time was a supirsing success considering how strange it was. but this is just plain awesome
almost sounds like drum and bass. i wouldnt start with the bassline, try starting with that rising effect and then the drumline, then add in the bass. that would be cool
its not so much the song, but the genre. glitch songs are generally, well... glitchier. not just in effects, but also containing a structure that is more dynamic. i think youll be better off posting this under techno.
not trying to be an ass either, just making observations
if i was reviewing this as a techno song, id love it. it is rather well mixed, it has interesting sounds, and has a nice gritty feel to it. i would count this as a glitchy techno song
that synth pluck is kind of annoying, it just stays there and doesnt do anything.its okay when the second time comes around, but when its just the drums and it its pretty bleh. keep in mind that usually dubstep drumlines sound halftime on their own (in relation to the other comments) but sound fulltime with the other elements. its quite obvious this isnt finished, and if it is the full song it should be more. the basslline is pretty good, not too much, but still in the spirit
-just one more thing i forgot to add, the drums witht the bassline are terrific and really make the song worth it
id return to the intro's drums more often on the occassion, and this is technically more techno than glitch (as pointed out by sien). unfortunatly i'm in agreeance with the uninterest after the intro, if your going to keep this in glitch, youll have to ramp it up quite a bit
i like both parts of the song, but i especially like that there is a light version and a dark version. thanks for giving me the dark part, i work better with it. ive heard that sample before... i believe it was zomby. this was my first collab, so im glad it turned out so well
definitly like the glitchy pad, pretty good drumline. the first basslilne and wobble is good, i might not staccato that first bass on the octave jump though becuase it sounds nice when its not, but nice with the scratching of it (i think its that).
very nice, i like this one quite a bit. its much slower than most dubstep, and has an off and eerie feel. the bassline is actually pretty cool sounding too. keep this stuff coming!
me likes it too. but when you say you sampled, where did you sample from? ive heard some of it before, and not on looperman, proffessional songs. particularly the vocal at :56
but jokema is right, the more unique it is, the more likely you are to be rewarded. im not trying to advertise my tracks, but nothing can be done was my unique spin, and people love it.
finnally, you gotta mix it, the high levels (here we go again :P)
are distorted and painful. remember to write with good speakers, and mix twice, once with good speakers, then with bad ones. if you cant listen to it well on the bad ones, it isnt mixed well enough
I sampeled from Ini Kamoze and a buncha other raggae artists. I'm trying to get a better bass for the wobble, but I feel like my options are limited with Fl Studio. Any suggestions, cuz I want a dirty bass sound, I just don't want a dirty bass sound that sounds shitty...
i like the bell like ambience, and the sound that enters at the very end works well too. the switching between wobbles is a bit choppy (of which i'm pretty sure your aware), but make the bass swapping more fluid, and Eq obviously. instead of of the automation, just an intermitent big, long bass drum would do perfectly. This is going to turn out a great song
Thanks for your opinion and tips because i was stumped on what to do with it to give it more variety and flavor but i will definitly try that because some of the wobbles arent in the right note place. Ill let you know when i fix it up,
Thanks bro
i like the general idea, which reminds me a lot of Autechre/Gescom, i think you might like them.
the drums are terrific on this track! and the synths that accompany the lead when the drums get quiet are a must have.
the biggest thing i dont like about this song is the 8 bit lead synth, partially becuase i hate the 8 bit sounds, but mostly becuase i think it be cool if you got a harsher industrial sound that doesnt have any release instead.
the other thing i might do something about, is that occassionally the drums get suddenly loud, it works sometimes, but it'd be cool to have a transition or have it slowly come in louder
originality is a really loose term, so dont worry. just going down the list of dubstep, this really stands out for its mood. most dubstep has a dark tone, this one is upbeat and pretty fun to listen to. it is true that the wobble is a rather standard one, but getting an interesting wobble bassline is always a big problem when it comes to dubstep.
i might seem crazy saying this, but maybe you should turn the wobble down a little. i think chud was trying to say that the lead synth makes this peice (if you know what i mean) so we want to hear more of it
