digging this - big fan of cavernous pno sounds - really like the pno/synth outro - those few seconds mesh in way that might could be used earlier too. Thank you!!
wow, OD. a lot of remix/re-invention going on with yr music.
I find it all beautiful, complex, and rewarding. + a helluva lot of fun.
This track in particular = lovely depth. The mix simply kicks ass!
yay! im so glad you enjoyed it. i dont know about reinvention, since my work has always been kind of all over the place, but i am so pleased that artists such as yourself that i respect dig what im putting out.
thanks so much for listening!
lol i hope thats a good thing...?
its definitely different, yeah...but all of my babies are, i suppose.
cheers for the listen and equally enigmatic review!
;)
I love the gtr playing and the setting here - I can hear/see the physical guitar-playing through the track, which lend the synth voices terrific story-telling qualities.
like this very much - maybe some of that synth could be stepped on and provide additional dynamics? I'm a little conflicted here cause I dig the minimalism but I'm still looking for a lead...
this track rally works and has a great haunting sound!
really nice live feel this track - i love the tension/release at play here! has an improvisational character; kinda was looking for a Subotnik-type butterfly resolution, but i like the way you did it perhaps even better! too rare to hear tracks like this - i'm glad you're out there, John!
Thanks for the review,Michael. There's another version of that track with Koukotsu on piano if you wanna have a listen.
Glad you like the track
Cheers

there is so much music happening here, it just needs a more powerful output level and some dynamics to heighten what you've done with the composition. thanks, man!
Hey, J. My avatar is my pal Werewolf the cat, lickin his paw. No lie, he likes picking strings and playing guitar. His fav is Black Sea or almost anything else by Fennesz.
Man, just consistently interstellar developments happening here, and I hope I'm not missing you completely, but there is just a lotta good-natured fun being had with sci-fi soundtrack conventions!
Thanks Michael - glad you liked it. BTW what is it thats pictured on your Avatar? - I cant make it out- been meaning to ask you for ages!
Cheers,
Jamie.
I don't think PC would touch lyrics like this - which border on making me hallucinate about things under the sink - that broken gtr that kicks off the second half makes it for me, as does the overall hotel room ambience. Safe journey, man.
Must disagree with IWE this time around - the vox + gtr really work for me - this is def it's own thing but if you will allow a comparison it's like a Postcard label 45 shot into 2010. What a great mix of upbeat/downbeat materials!
That's awesome looping + singing. Was that pno or really hard-edged damped-down gtr harmonics?
This is a great track and thanks for the avenue for us non-Gallic speakers to explore more music - I gotta check out Bashung.
I must admit my French music vocab is really limited. Etron Fou Leloublan, the original Honeymoon Killers, Plastic Bertrand (is he french?), Passion Fodder. Please point me towards more!!
Hi Michael,
Thanks a lot for this review. As I don't play the piano,I replaced it with guitar harmonics.Plastic Bertrand sings in french but he's actually from Belgium.I'm sure you'll love Bashung especially his album "Fantaisie militaire".You can also check AIR even if they sound quite British. And also a great band called Rita Mitsouko.
Tell me what you think about that.
Thanks again
