Nice one! I love how guitar shifts into synth/organ. Great reverb on the percussion. This is really sweet! I hope you're planning on extending it.

on Nobody Hears a Sound (Feat. Eshar) by Reverse1984
Reverse1984 - you've listened to my stuff, so I doubt you'll be surprised that I absolutely love this one! This is IT! Without the back story here, I would never have suspected that this wasn't a carefully arranged collaboration. Your choices of sound and how Elaine's voice becomes inseparable from the glitched sounds is really amazing. It's one thing to make music artfully, and entirely another when art is musical - you have indeed 'nailed' it here. The simplicity underlying the complexity of your rhythm works so well. "I wish I was God, the All Seeing Eye." Faved for sure.

on You Aint Heard of me ft Gapjux and crew update by victormusic01x
Didn't hear the first draft, so can't compare - but it seems to me that you must have heeded Spivkurl's advice. The vox sizzle in my headphones. Love that little "yoin yoin yoin" bouncing throughout. Seems you're getting better with each track, my friend! Can't wait to hear six months from now. Well done, and cheers.

EDIT: Wicked edit, man! It was sounding good before, but now it's HAPPENING! I have no advice at all for you this time! Nice one!

on Tennhutt by Planetjazzbass
Where did this one come from? Disabled for a stint? Post-Traumatic-Stress related? "Debacle?" What about the dancing in the streets? Having heard "Lance Johnson Surfer" first, I'm really struck by how much that song is connected to this one both thematically, and sonically. Too bad Joe Strummer's gone, as I'm sure he would have dug this track (and I'd track him down to have him listen), as it carries the same vibe as some of the Clash bits. I love the way you attack those strings - the physical expression is perfect for this piece. Love the fusion driven rhythms holding the foundation. "I love it more than my life." Yeah!

on What I see is my open mind by Fern13
The older I get, the more I like instrumentals. I'm starting to think it's because music as a language is the one where every voice can talk at once and it still makes sense. Sometimes vocals take too much of the attention away from the music itself - not always, but enough to really make me notice. What's the music saying instead of what's the singer saying. This track's got a really good rhythm, both in the percs and the pace of the melody. And the shift into reverse is a surprise that keeps the focus on, so the arrangement works really well, too. Nice one!

The analogue recording - no corrections, edits, time stretching - have to hit the zone. I imagine with some noise filters (I believe you can do this with Audacity) you could remove all analogue traces. Cool hearing a rediscovered track of yours!

on Voices of Love by CHANT
I love that this site shows the members currently online. I discover all kinds of interesting tracks this way. This track really brings it to the forefront of where human music began. Our vocal chords, wind-pipes, and tongue/mouth cavity is capable of creating amazing sounds (I play didgeridoo, and have really come to a different understanding about breath/rhythm/tonal manipulation). The vocal work here is grounded in a tradition that originates long before textualized history and certainly manipulates emotional states. I do wonder about the audio quality, however. Are you recording this on analog cassette before transfering? There's a lot of noise that reminds me of digitalized cassette tape sound, that seems beyond something caused by reverb. If so, this is quite easily corrected with readily available software. I think this would be even more powerful if there was a bit more crispness in the recording. I look forward to hearing more of your chants! Cheers.

Hi Nomad23 , thanks for the review :-)
yeah you're right about the analog cassette recording , (i uploaded the track on behalf of my mum) , the microcassette recorder she uses for her recordings is the only technology she's comfortable with :-)
i added vst reverb & tried to remove some of the tape hiss , but some is still noticable , all of her chants are very similar but i might upload more , thanks , cheers :-)

on Haunebu Rider by ShaubYaella
What I dig particularly about ShaubYaella is his muli(anti)generic approach to the sonic art. In many ways, this is the counter-current to the literary cyberpunk genre, of which they both respond to the problems and solutions of technology itself. A musical pharmacon where the poison is also the remedy. You could label this one cinematic as well, and would be a sonic asset to nearly any sci-fi movie.

Well, it's not a ready-made so I'm guessing it was inspired by "Elle a chaud au cul" which is a source of inspiration for everything. Dig that digital reek of dadaism! Nice mix, btw.

on Fluid Blue String by CalifKen
There's a cinematic vibe going on here as well, and your opening sequence reminds me of a lot of Peter Greenaway's musical choices. Then of course it mutates several times into distinct movements. Very interesting moving from contemplative trancy bits into head bobbing rhythms. Nicely done on several levels.
CalifKen
CalifKen replied Unknown
Greenaway's Last Supper - that was a trip! The opera woman goes Wild. And at a few points did I hear why you might say that! Last Supper thing was interesting, I think it's sort of reminiscent of what we do with music and the remixing and all on this site - it's like he was remixing art.

Contemplative is the word. I wish there were a contemplative genre on this site.

Thank you so much for the review, I will continue to contemplate that comparison into the night!

Wow, I'm having flashbacks of "Positive Vibrations," the weekly college radio broadcast in Seattle back in the late `80s. You've jacked straight into the tradition here! Absolutely beautiful track here, both musically and vocally. Love your delay on the keys, and your perc track is to die for. Faved.

on Minor Setback by Spivkurl
For me, your music is incredibly visual. I keep vacillating between impressionism and dadaism. It's the layers and the mega-texturing you're doing at the deep levels (either that or I'm suffering audio hallucinations again). Wanting to drift off into total digressions, so I'll just give a nod and say how much I like this.
Spivkurl
Spivkurl replied Unknown
I'm glad to hear this from someone! I've decided that I like to make music that entices the listener to imagine things. It seems like I'm getting closer to my goal then. I suffer from hallucinations audio and otherwise, so I know what you mean. I'm very glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for the review!

on Wah Wah by LS2GTO
Sweet, a bit like if Men without Hats were starting out in this century. Those are perhaps the happiest synth sounds I've ever heard! Dude, sampled edgy electro-pop! Ain't no shame in using the loops and offering them up recontextualized as sonic collage. Any chance of extending this one out somewhere past 3:00 min? I want to fave it, but it leaves me wanting (yes, this is a blackmail attempt). Shoot me an email, would you? (PS-after review) - blackmail was a joke, and a bad one. I was trying to motivate you to extend it dangling the carrot of faving the track. Still, it's a brilliant piece of work, and I look forward to hearing more creations you make!!
LS2GTO
LS2GTO replied Unknown
Thanks for the review. I would extent it but I'm not the best at making matching loops to go along with it. I forget who did the loops on looperman, anyways I only did the drums which were quite simple. When you say blackmail, what do you mean?

on Red Earth by LS2GTO
Whoa - short track, and I was really getting into it too! Yeah man, this works as cinematic for sure. Extended out a bit, it could be 'dance' or 'ambient' equally well. An underlying tension in the sonic choices. Great ending 'note', too. I really dig the rhythms, especially the breaks you've got going on. Nice one.
LS2GTO
LS2GTO replied Unknown
Needs to be longer, I agree. I locked up on it and began getting frustrated and ended it for now. I find that taking a break from it will help clear my head and get idea's that would better it. Not too bad for 45 minutes of work...lol

on EuNegMa - productioN by EuNegMa
I love the sounds you use in this one! The drones floating up from your keys are rich, powerful, and quite unexpected (in a good way). It's the kind of track that you can dance to without breaking a sweat - something rather noble about that. Since you're asking for advice here, I'm wondering if you've thought about bringing a melody line in somewhere. Something out front and VERY different from the other sounds you've got going on? Again, something unexpected. Like a thumb piano (kalimba) electrified and run through distortion (that's what I was imagining while listening). Anyway, whatever you do with this, I think you've got a good, solid foundation! Cheers.

on Lost and Found by ShaubYaella
Listening to this after our little communique has really flavored my reaction. Strange how access to a back-story effects our interpretations, and I can really see how this came out reading cyberpunk. Especially since the neoHumanist in me sees creativity (genuine as opposed to wannabe) always being the subversive counter-toxin to societal dis-ease. Hi-Lo tech Musick - a kindred spirit to my own Space-Age aesthetic. Did you know you can take down an attack helicopter with a slingshot? This was used by the political opposition during the general strike in Cameroon a decade ago. Low tech usually wins the day. Mon ami, I LOVE this track! (6th play) What you're doing here with sonic movement, with frequency choices, with swelling...you're jacked in. This is brilliant because you've found the Spirit of the Thing. Another ShaubYaella favorite!

on Mercury Isotopes by ShaubYaella
This is amazing! Your experiment in algorithm programming applied to tune structures is so groovy, it really makes me wonder about the implications. Could an upcoming genre of music be based entirely on orbital position calculations, or the algorithms behind genetic code? If so, I bet there's some beautiful and surprising melodies waiting to be found. The rhythms behind the melody here are great, and I think the glitch breaks work better than anywhere I've heard before. I do however have a pop/click sound consistently around 3:37, and I wonder if anyone else experiences this? Nasty artifact, but easily fixed. Had to fave this one!

[Feb `11 Edit]
This one still feels so seminal somehow. Like the emergence of sentience from levels of complexity within the digital flux fields. Outstanding and equally provocative.
ShaubYaella
ShaubYaella replied Unknown
Yeah, I was so pressed for time that I did not remix and render appropriately.( groveling with apologies). At any rate - I will reload after rewriting and remixing it in a few days. The original version (there are three) had a flaw but had something that I can't describe - could it be "soul" ? This one comes real close. Music for the 21st century? Hmmm...

I really like how the percussion shifts from sounding like analog instruments to electronic ones, and the way you use panning on them. You've got a really good sense of rhythm and an ear for timing those transitions at the right moments. I've got nothing to offer for improvement. I really enjoyed hearing this one! Cheers.

on Strings'n'Synth by INNstrumentalz
The weave between strings and percussion here is really nice. Really, really nice. Definitely a track that gets you bobbing your head to! I wonder about your title, though. It announces what it is, but I think it might have a better draw for an audience if it maybe suggested something that's not so obvious. For example, does the tune remind you of anything? I had images of driving on a gray and rainy day at speeds not entirely safe. See what I mean? Nice track!

I love delay and use it to some extent whenever possible. Stretching and manipulating time like that is amazing. In the context of a slow steady beat like this, the delay on the kicks really works well. I really love the rhythmic pads around 2:50 and the transition there. I also really like the drone qualities that float though out this. Nice track. Cheers.

Wicked bass coupled with wicked breaks. I dig the way you've used vocals in those breaks, too - it creates a call and response thing that really works here. What happens around and after 2:00 keeps it from being repetitive, imo - but theres a lot to be said for repetition, too! Nice one.
