This does what much music attempts and utterly fails to do. It plucks at the heartstrings and directs us inwards to those emotional locations which in particular cultural constructs are universal. I'm with you regarding musical theory - but then who needs it when intuitively you're able to create music such as this. I'm delighted to have found a piece of your music, and have faved it (and will certainly be playing it regularly!).
Strange nobody's reviewed this. Perhaps it's the overwhelming distortion. There are very interesting things happening here, but honestly I'm having trouble getting past the "noize" generated in the low frequencies. I'm not trying to be critical, instead offering up my personal observations as a listener.
145 listens, and this is the only comment? There's something really sad about that.
its meant to be distorted. like if your actually there. a lot of the loops are old recordings of piano songs so im sure the quality of sound isnt the best. if u listen to a lot of my stuff i like the distorted noise to it.afterall i am an industrurial artist.
Lot's of commentary on the recording/mastering here so I'm going to offer my perspective too. Brilliant mastering doesn't cover up mediocrity, just like perfume won't cover up the funk.
Look how many people have faved this one DESPITE the recording flaws. That in itself should tell you that you've got it HAPPENING. Real talent and artistry underlies this piece. I hope you're feeling as good about it as you deserve to. Absolutely beautiful and inspired work here. Cheers.
That is some seriously inspired/inspiring piano work there, and honestly I think the midi cello is great in this particular context. It offers a sort of balance in an overall sense that I feel would be felt if it wasn't there.
And hey, isn't it a tradition in Chinese art to put a piece of imperfection in specifically to nod at human production?
I didn't know about the chinese art tradition of putting a piece of imperfection in to show it's human after all ...lol...thanks for the listen and a very enlightening review. I guess you could compose a track called "Chinese Art" and put some glaring errors in it. (Actually it would make a great CD album title for me cause all my stuffs got errors in it....ah...the human touch...
Hello, and welcome to Looperman - you're a fine addition to the musicians already gathering here. I find this track really interesting, as it obviously draws from the raga, and yet you approach it in a much more freeform, almost improvisational style. It's a lovely piece, and as it's an "early experiment" I've already made note to keep my eyes on you. I can't wait to see what you're creating in 6 months from now! Thanks for sharing this piece.
A fabulous track shining out from the noise of wannabes. You know I'm a percussion fiend, so my double thumbs up here should carry some weight. I love the arrangement here - the drums and shakers are at EXACTLY the right level and really emphasize what else is going on. In other words, for me that flute really stands out precisely because of the percussion you've got supporting it. And your sax playing...I understand the expression about "giving up my left nut" when I hear this kind of playing. I love the quality of musical "dialog" throughout this piece. A favorite to be sure.
Hi n0mad, thank you for the glowing review. I have to agree with you on noise wannabies.. Throw some loops together with no thought of key and develop a huge ego.. I feel what with your love of precussion (as shared by myself also), we should do a collaboration.. If you could put together some form of track I would gladly lay down some melodies....
I've listened to this one before, both logged in and as a lurker - first because the concept was so intriguing. Then it was because it's such an excellent track. I've meant to review this piece for a while now, and apologize for taking so long.
What to say? You've got everything right here: the arrangement is truly fantastic! It's one of those pieces that's hard for me to imagine that it wasn't recorded live with a handful of musicians involved. Yeah, this is HAPPENING!
You bloody perfectionist! This is a really lovely piece of work. I especially like how you've shaken up and fused several genres here - and the result is really splendid. I love the bouncy Trance quality here, and that it is SOOOO Chilled Out, too. Really lovely arrangement in terms of placement and amplitude(s). The latest of yours I've faved!
This was actually the result of reformatting the track for my mom to have to play in her car!! I should make more music for mom. :D Thank you for the lovely review!! You've chilled the track for me even further. It's icy. ;)
Really lovely vocals that don't detract from the other instrumentation at all. Very reminescent of Siouxsie Sioux, especially of her work in Creatures. Really like this. Faved.
I love that bassline! There are some really interesting moments with wind instruments that I wish were more in the front, but that's just me. Yeah, this is very nice.
Dude - how did this track slip by me? I've faved it by the 2:00 minute mark, and I waited this long only because I was so stunned I forgot it was an option! This make have serious Rock underpinnings by its emotional location is jacked straight into the source. Outstanding.
I've heard Anomaly's version of this on several occassions now, and I'm really enjoying hearing it in its original context. And you're right - in terms of the emotional pull of the sounds here, this is truly The Blues. Nice one.
Another CalifKen track added to my personal favorites. Man, not only do you have talent, you seem to be on some sort of parabolic or hyperbolic curve in terms of production. Keep it up - but don't flame out!
So it's kinda happened - I've started flaming out. And it was while trying to reach for the holy grail - trying to sound like Danny Elfman. It's no wonder I got burned. But I'm getting there!! Thank you for your thoughtful review S, I appreciate it.
