A true fusion of influences here, tinged with your usual penchant for ethnic sensibilities. I love the African guitar motif running throughout ( those guys really know how to do upbeat even when playing a slow acoustic riff like this). I'm also getting some North African and Indian subcontinent vibes in this. Nice percussion track underpinning it in a supportive way and not overpowering the whole thing.
This is great stuff and for me a new fave of yours - nice work Sean!
Cheers, Jamie.
What you hear as guitar I think is the DSK BassZ VSTi which I pushed up an octave (or two?) for doing this one. I'm glad you hear it too, as it was the launching inspiration point of this one. It's got West African Ambiance dripping from the strings, and I think you've nailed the upbeat aspect (hadn't considered that consciously). I'm going to post how I did the accent drums in the "Dub Logbook" thread as I'm really please with how they came out, especially in conjunction with the bass drum lines happening. Really glad you enjoyed this one Jamie, it's a compliment greater than you imagine. Thank you.
I was picturing more like a Robot that shorted out and randomly spit this stuff out. I did all vocal mix by hand and there is no two '8 count' section anywhere in the vocals that are identical, to represent the randomness of an electrical short. Apparantly, I like robots and aliens with my musical short stories. Good to see ya droppin by.
Nice crisp production, guitars and keys on this! Quite commercial sounding (in a good way) Seems to be screaming out for vocals to complete it! Nice job guys.
Thanks Jamie! Now that you mentioned it,vocals wouldn't be bad.9Rhiter had this produced well from the getgo I think, and it took a while for me to even hear past his moving intro!I did want to say that even before this I noticed his sound seemed to mirror what I've been getting from my guitar equipment lately and that helped a lot since he mixed his parts and I did mine, there wasn't a big contrast. It was kinda like we had a third member of the team.
Thank you very much, jfw. This is actually an old song which I just updated. I took out about a minute and a half of repetitive crap in the middle, including some of my crappy vocals, and re-equalized it. Hopefully it's less boring now and has a bit better sound.
This is quite a clever amalgam of genres and stylings. I dont know who is doing what but the bluesy guitar part at the begining is great! as is the rock part (that must be Bilbozo). The whole thing is nicely pieced together (presumably by our host - Joyful Wave) so that it does'nt sound contrived or dis-jointed.
THX...for your review :)
