on Hey Black Boy Beat by Sic Cuz Da Guvna by Keston
I feel like the voice is varying a lot in volume in certain parts. I'm not sure if you're using a vocal compressor but if not it'll help your voice sound more even in volume. One more thing, I feel like the music is too quiet haha. You got a nice flow though, I must give you that. Ponderful lyrics as well.

This is beautiful beyond words. I finally listened to it on my studio speakers. Wow, I'm blown away. One thing I would have liked to see was some more sweeping strings but overall an extremely excellent job man.

on Crossfire Feat Oceanically by Ep5ilon
I feel like there's a tad bit too much reverb on Oceanically's vocal but the bassline/chord progression is so sick. Great production on this one man. I have no complaints regarding mixing or mastering besides that one issue. Great job!

I know, and there's a reason for that.
Initially, Oceanically's vocal had to be time stretched in several places, which made it sound edgy between notes. The reverb is there to hide this. Then I just added reverb to the piano and gaming synth to balance out the track.
Thanks for the feedback. :)

YAY!! Another hit from one of my favorite composers on LM. What'd you use for the guitar harmonic? There are a few parts where it sounds a little MIDI-ish but it's probably not noticeable for most listeners - so it's not a game changer :P Beautiful composition as always and like zac, I wish this one was longer :) Great work, as always! I will add you to Skype soon - just having issues with it updating right now, trying to figure that out.

Hi EpicRecord,

Thanks for your comment, and for taking a listen. I'm not too sure what I used, it was a synth but sounds a little like a guitar.

Thanks!

You should upload those drums as a loop. I can never find good-sounding dubstep drums with a normal beat O_o

They're actually from a free sample pack.

I'm about 90% confident that's the proper link.

on Speak This Now - Ft Dikaiko-Emain - Empty Slot by 8Kass8
Your editing of the vocals fit well with the song. The rap vocal sounds a little too far away imo but to each their own. The snare is also a little weak (?) but since it doesn't consume the vocal, I'd say it still works. The second part of the female vocal is too soft and I can't hear what she's saying - maybe turning up the volume of her voice at those points will help. Good idea overall. Very chill track and a catchy synth and string plucks!

Cool but not-too-exciting piano at the start. Very chill song. Could hear a slow heavy rap over this haha. What do you use for your drums? Software or hardware?

Ahhhh, the computer issues - I know how you feel man. I still deal with that, even now. I can't even use my Superior Drummer 2.0 plugin because my computer can't handle the sheer amount of audio that is loaded everytime a new kit is opened haha. Again, great stuff and don't stop what you're doing man. So far, I haven't heard a song I don't like from you and that says a lot :P

Hello EpicRecord,

Always a pleasure to read your comments, thanks for taking the time to listen. I agree, these particular set of libraries are really awesome. Using Project SAM's Orchestral Essentials for the backing strings coupled with some Emotional Cello sustain patch, can't remember the name. This is mostly from the Emotional Cello Library on Kontakt player.

Oh and you really wouldn't want to see me producing these, having to use the 32 bit version of my DAW since some of my plugins are refusing to work with the 64 bit, which means I'm limited to 4GB of ram. These patches are not resource friendly. I'm having to freeze a lot of my tracks and have the full source in a separate file.

You may be right, there's a track on my SoundCloud (and here) titled Amy's Theme, a good friend and she provides me with a lot of inspiration without even trying.

- All the best

on The Notorious BIG-Juicy-Enrico Ludwick Remix by 15ludwicke
Wow, the start is definitely really crisp and airy.

The vocal sounds a little too thick and muddy. I think a low-cut and a slight boost in the higher frequencies will help sharpen out the vocals. Also, maybe trying to add a stereo delay instead of a mono delay might help de-clutter the vocal.

I think the instrumental is amazing, as always though. I can't wait to hear the finished version, and I'm being serious about that. The solo after his first segment is really cool, but maybe you can toy with another sound? I feel like you could make an already catchy solo melody even better with a different sound.

Overall, it's a great start.

"Good thing in still use smoke signals" LOL

I laughed more than I should have at this comment.

The song sounds like it's clipping at some parts (unless thats the synth sound??) This mix is so WIDE. I love it. What DAW do you use? This is quite unique in the best way possible.

Byleth replied 23rd Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
"I laughed more than I should have at this comment." you are not alone....

There are 2 sources who are clipping (to reproduce we are inside the net nor phones) the first is the bass drum who I use massive distortion (start at 25 sec) the second one is a weird pad I found called Pomona in Harmor.( in the intro and the last part)

The DAW I use is Fl studio 12. I found the way to make envelope pretty easy and since im visual I love seeing everything on tracks. The master is neat too

Thanks for that "This is quite unique in the best way possible." this like a objective for me I hate music without layering of story inside...

Thanks for that epic comment dear EpicRecord !

BTW, I was curious as to what your setup is. What guitar/amp setup were you using for the guitar at :30? Did you mic or do a direct setup (think Mesa Cabclone)
topvega
topvega replied 23rd Aug 2015 - 10 years ago
Let me see if I can break down my set up for this track.

I use Reaper as my DAW. Love it and it is very reasonably priced.
Guitar is an Ibanez N427. Bass is an Ibanez GSR200.
My Line in is a Presonus Audiobox USB.
I run my guitars and bass Dry and use VST effects. I very rarely record anything that is not dry because I love being able to try different effects in the mixing stage.
I would say 95 percent of the time I use Guitar Rig 5 VST. Absolutely love it.
On this specific track the rhythm guitars (There are 2) Are panned 51% on the right and 60% on the left. Right is using an effect called Black Malcom Rhythm. Basically it is a close simulation of the rhythm guitar on Back in Black. Left is using Foo Monkey Ultra. A semblance of Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench I believe. Both guitars have also been EQ'd separately to bring out the tone I wanted.
2 lead guitar tracks are panned 51% each. On those we have Right side Foo Monkey Grat and the Left is Tweed Delight Sweep Delay. It is one of my favorite effects and is what gives the guitar a psychedelic feeling. Both of those are EQ'd as well.
Bass is panned Center and using an effect called Precise Bottom. It is EQ'd as well.
Then once I get everything sounding good I drop Izotope Ozone 5 on the Master channel and I am using a 4 band called Precise Bottom. Hope that helps.

Awesome intro. Very airy and dreamy. The tone on that guitar is sick. Feels a little bit off sync at a few parts but I'm guessing that's because you played the instruments live haha. The drums seem to be lacking a bit in punch but wow this is an awesome groove. You must had a ton of fun recording this lol. This song makes me want to pick up my electric guitar and perfect recording tone haha. Great job!

Thanks ER. I am quite obsessive when it comes to guitar tone. I am always trying to get it just right. It does have some rough spots that need to be redone. Most of the guitar and bass parts were done in one take so things are a little off in spots. Drums are always my weak spot. I need to spend a ton of time working on their tone and then save it as a template so I have good drums. Appreciate you listening and leaving some feedback.

on My Mind Is A War Zone by MisterCH
I just read your profile and you say you don't play any instruments. So this must be a sample. Double-panning your track can still be done by a very simple method: duplicate the guitar track and simply shift the copied track forward or back (you choose) EVER so slightly. It'll create a stereo space and really widen the mix.

on My Mind Is A War Zone by MisterCH
I think it's an electric guitar being played in clear haha. Hey, I think you should try double-tracking your guitar :)

If you don't know what I mean, it's basically the same thing as vocal double-tracking, which you've got down it appears :P

If you double-pan your guitar you'll see how wide and airy your mix will get :)

I like this song. Theres a lot of personality in your words and chord choice - very tasteful and catchy imo.

Good work on this one. Try double-tracking your guitar :)

I promise you won't regret it.

hi EpicRecord

Thank you for nice words! I am happy you liked some of my older works - I wasn't really intertionally going for eighties feel and any kind of stylistical 'correctness' here. I simply 'combined' different sounds so to speak haha

Thanks again for listening to my music
and all the best to you,
