Very nice. Nothing wrong with not following the generic idea that a song must be structured a certain way. This is a very cool piano accompanying a great voice. Keep it up! Peace from AZ, USA.
I salute your work very diversifying. Very rhythmic with that voice to the effects, echo / reverb ....
There are many innovations in your achievement and this work, with these melodious search, and these cuts ingenious tempo .... I agree with Ed here: Congratulations to complement hers ....
Nice job on this SJ, you really got some serious dynamics going on in this. I agree that your coming into your own and producing some pretty solid stuff. I'm still too chicken to attempt vocals !
This just put a smile on my face. I just went back and reviewed some of my earlier comments I have left on your tracks. What an amazing job you have done in the last 9 months to grow musically. Ironically you consider me an eclectic artist, but this song is very eclectic and very good. You have managed to capture an interesting sound with your trademark piano staccato style. And Some wild dissonant chords as well which make this so so interesting. It has been a pleasure to listen to your musical maturity over the last 9 months. "keep it going"!
Steve
Hi Steve!
Well, I've told you this before but this journey has been what it is very much thanks to you and a bunch of other guys and girls here on the loop.
Without all the feedback and advice - no progression.
In December last year I hardly even knew there existed such things as DAW's and that almost everybody could learn to create some kind of music on their computer...now I know. =)
I just wish somebody could have told how addictive this music producing was, though!! It's taking over my life...
=D
Take care - I'm off to have a listen to your latest creation now. /SJ
Hi Ed - standing ovations from you!! Well, I have to say, that is the best comment ever and makes me very proud. I've been struggeling with this one for some time now...something always clashing with something else, but maybe I'm finally getting there.
Dont put it in the bin SJ...I can hear a lot of good work (and talent) that went into this one..Good for you on that bassline..that drop at 2:45 really works well and the drums are subtle enough to let the bass do its thing...the big reverb on Carrol`s vocal works well in this one too...The whole mix has a nice big rich sound...Its really well done...the only thing that I could think of as I was listening was that a couple of little key changes somewhere along the way might kick it up another notch....enjoyed this one...keep on.....Ed
Hi again, Ed!
About that bass - I didn't even consciously notice the bass in songs before and didn't understand what all the fuss was about...you guys here talking about great basslines etc. etc.
And then I suddenly started to hear it too. (It's OK to laugh, it's both hilarious and embarrassing... =D)
So this is kind of a big musical revelation for me: The bass is what brings the music alive somehow...well, I haven't quite figured it out yet but I'm getting there.
In this case however, it's a very simple and amatourish bassline of course, I'm aware of that. Just celebrating my new knowledge by building a song around that bass which just happened to popp out in an other song where it didn't belong, that's all.
Key changes are a good idea, it's very flat and veeeeeery long, this song.
So some key changes and also just half a song could be my next move here.
Thanks for listening and for the advice!
Wow really cool track on this. Good job of mixing this one, a lot of frequencies that could really clash but sound very smooth. Nice vibe to this, and you should be proud of the bassline it really sets the tone of the song.
i guess the track is cool, but it can still become supercool. its befitting to say its a dance track, but when the beat comes in its like hiphop beat.if you give it that dance feel it should raise some eyebrows.keep going SJ
O.K. I listened to both. I like the original a little better. I think what I would like to hear in the remix is a few changes if possible. The vocal accapella track has a very chorused almost phased effect on it and I think having the vocals clean with a natural reverb or delay would be better. at:59 of the old remix the piano and the vocal melody clash musically (the verse). I really like the chord structure for the chorus as it reminds me of Heaven 17's "Geisha Boys And Temple Girls " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edgjl5zPW6g&html5=1
This song is the style of music you do,
What you can learn from it is they were successful by making a strong chorus and a vocal that is clean and clear.
Maybe on the verse structure at:59 instead of the jangly verbed piano use something else musically, like a deep bass sound. That's my take so far on this one.
Steve
Hi Steve!
That's really helpful advice - I'll try that bass sound and also one thing I noticed now is that I like the melody in the first verse a lot more than the one coming later which I sort of chose to be the main chorus this time...why did I choose that one anyway???
Strange thinking from me.
And that Geisha Boys song made me smile - never heard it before. Good advice about making a strong chorus, I'll try to do that also.
About the vocal, I tryed my hand on EQ'in it and a hole lot of other elements in the song so my guess is that I EQ'ed away the good sounds...lol!
Not easy being an amatour.
Thanks heeps for helping me out with this, Steve!
And have a nice day/evening. /SJ
Some of the elements from the original track are cool its just that some parts that have been layered again seem to be clashing and perhaps the vocal is out of time. If I were you I would reconsider things.
You asked so I'll give my two pennith worth..and please keep in mind this is only my opinion and I can't (won't) tell you to put this bit there and that bit over here etc......I understand the concept of a remix but the methodology is no different than starting a brand new track and this is where this remix gets into difficulties,it's like you've taken all the ingredients or stems and felt compelled to ladle them all together..the bass line, drums and especially the piano are at odds time wise and the vocals completely confuse the issue...now I haven't listened to the original track as that seems a little irrelevant,it's what your doing here that's important...get the drums and bass thud then the synth synced first..then it's time for the vocals, the piano needs to be layered according to what structure you come up with, but I'd suggest using fades as at the moment it's totally overloading..just because you have all the stems doesn't mean you have to use them in their entirety, same goes for the vocals.........tell the truth to me a remix involves the actual mixing and mastering of a track not a rearrangement of it's constituent parts..but then I'm showing my age,but I did succeed in not mentioning the sound quality! ;) Dave
Hi Dave!
Good thing you at least didn't mention the sound quality!! =D
No ok, let's see - there was no stems at all just the Acapella. With the "original remix" I'm referring to my original, not the original original, if you follow.
And my original was really odd! But I guess I made it even worse!!!
Luckily enough I asked for opinions here first before uploading on Soundcloud.
So check and check: timing is off, the bass and drums are off, and the piano/synths are overloading. And the vocal is off.
Guess I really messed it up.
Reworking!!!
Thanks Dave - no age showing at all, just your musicality.
The structure is good and the sounds are good but the music seems to be clashing. I get an idea of what you are trying to do but unfortunately the notes and chords are all over the place i.e they don't work together. Try not to stress about the compression etc. and work on the music side of things. Im no expert but I can tell when something isn't working musically.
The compression I know about, it's not supposed to be like that at all and it's fixable.
But about the notes and chordes, that sounds really bad! I'm wondering if you listened to the original remix also? Or do you just dislike the melody either way?
Thanks for the criticism, that's what I need to hear!
Thank you for listening and leaving a comment!
I like this track a lot myself, too bad I still haven't learned how to do a proper mastering/EQ'ing...it's clicking and popping a lot.
SJ I should confess this was instructive for me abut the form!
considered and thoughtfull devemopmenT of track in
ParT A(mysterius theme )turnes to a groovy house by adding those beats in that way ( for example I call that parT B __and this part workd as a bridge betwwen parts A & C ) and
most interesting is how after parT B and with a nice alterasion ,We come to Part C in which scale changes to major and mystrious & suspended theme comes to a grooy & energetic one .
by the way , this admirable tarrenT in which music ( insrumental) and singer's voice was tuned well & set very good is . another notable point of this track of yours .verywell done SJ. best wishes.___Behnam
It's always so interesting to read your comments, I'm learning things about Music theory every time when reading them!
I really didn't build this song in a considered way at all, it just became this way merely relying on my intuition.
And I'm glad to hear that it worked anyway.
Thanks for the kind words Behnam and take care!
