Hey, quite groovy man! My kind of disco vibe for sure! I hear a bit of "sandanista" floating through this one as well, but definitely more developed than much of the electronic sort of stuff on that album. That distorted guitar/organ sounding bit is really sweet! Good to hear a tape feel in the mix, and not one of those VST tapes... ha ha. You were totally jammin with yourself on this! Great track! Fave!

The Clash comparisons are cool, as when I made this I had no thoughts or ideas that I wanted to sound like them, but for me this is a natural progression of post disco and with Punk and with it's DIY nature it just naturally evolves.(convergent evolution). No organs were harmed in the making of this song, but various guitar effects were used over Yamaha midi instruments. And ironically no tape was used, but recorded onto a Special type of 4 track Sony Minidisk. It was a truly controlled Jam. The song is very structured and the solos were designed to fit in the melody. This was not an improv but had some thought to it.
Always a pleasure

What an uplifting, dancy tune Cru!

THAT BASS IS A KILLER ONE!!!

Lots of great technicality as usual...my best is that short Malmsteen like solo part from 2.27 to 2.45...brilliant...

Thankx for this late night show...everybody danced a git...Esty (8 years old girly), Meli (...years old Mamy) and Danke (retro boy)...

We love you all, Danke :-)

crucethus replied 11th Mar 2015 - 11 years ago
Hey Danke
Awesome that the whole family was dancing, my best to all of them.
Thanks for the props on the bass. That's the second Malmsteen quote on one of my songs in the last 2 weeks and it's freaking me out a bit as I am not that technically good.
If I spread joy with my music then lie is good.

crucethus replied 11th Mar 2015 - 11 years ago
Thanks Poppe, you don't have to be a "disco man" to get into post punk disco, or New Wave because disco should always be underground, the "disco" you know is pure and utter pop crap pushed by record companies. The disco I know is innovative and full of creativity that you have never heard. The Clash took that ethos of Punk and Disco and made some awesome tunes and spurred on the new wave new romantic post punk movement in the UK which bled over into North America Via MTV.

Hi Steve,
Great song!
This song has really a "clash" taste: the synth lines could find place on Sandinista.
Only problem: the solo is too god (2:27): clash never had anything similar.
The bass line really seems to come out of the fingers of Paul Simonon (only exception the change around 3:20)
Nice work on the synths (3:33): guitarish and intriguing.
Also the final organ solo is a nice touch: mixed very low to not distract the listener from the main song.
The end is a bit "quick".
Great song. Really great.
I am looking my contacts to see if I have the phone number of Joe Strummer: he would love to sing on this one :-)
Ciao, Domenico

Ironically I have been watching Punk Britannia on you tube the last few days. The clash were awesome, and if you were able to contact Joe, that would be an amazing feat since he passed on about 13 years ago. His voice may have decayed (oh that’s so wrong) a bit. I really enjoy writing and playing moving bass lines. This bass line is a different style for me. 3.20 is me slipping into a Alan Spenner style bass line for say a Roxy Music like song. Punk and disco were made for each other in a musical sense because of the simplicity of styles and chord structure it creates a lot of breathing room in the tracks to be creative with solos and moving bass-lines. IT's why the New wave, post punk, post romantic, synthpop movements in the uK became so big and then with the advent of the visual in MTV in the US, transplanted to North America as well.
One of my favourite tunes that embodies the spirit of this sound actually is from your home country by one of it's biggest stars ever. This tune from 1972 is before disco and drips with irony.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X_7iMHugXM&;html5=1
I love the simplicity , the ironic anger of the nonsensical usage of English (Anglocentric voices prevelant in many euro-tunes at the time). and the subtle instrumentation throughout.
Always a pleasure

I feel like maybe the drums could've been a little more present in this one; seems a little lacking punchiness, but then again that could've been what you were going for. :P Your music is always entertaining to listen to haha. As always, great work cru.

crucethus replied 11th Mar 2015 - 11 years ago
I was emphasising the bass drum and high hat on this one and not necessarily the snare which would give you the more punchy feel that you are recommending. I could envision in the chorus adding a snare or even a sharp hand clap to it. The fun of building a song up from layers.
Thanks for listening and commenting

This is so good on so many different levels. First off, your synth work is just as good as it gets (those little riffs around the 2:40 mark and again around 3:20 are so nice). You have a rare skillset (both musician and composer) and you execute your ideas flawlessly. Terrific mix on this one as well. Everything is sitting nicely, really crispy sound. Another outstanding effort from one of the best musicians on Looperman. Really, really well done. I hope all is well.

Ahh you are too kind Bear.
Believe it or not the Keyboard I used
for this was a $199 Yamaha. Even the drums, but I used a most expensive Roland Guitar processor to make some of these sounds magical. Mixed on the fly on a 4 track Sony It was fun to revive this one with modern mastering.
"Another outstanding effort from one of the best musicians on Looperman."
is a very high compliment from a great musican yourself and I am humbly grateful for that.

Hi Steve, just to let you know I had a chance to enjoy this tune again. That would be probably one of my favourite from you ever. Ahh.. 'Bedroom Games' were very nice too!
I was thinking a lot of making a cover of one of them these last few days. They are simply great songs. I will let you know.

I absolutely LOVE that juicy bass drum at the beginning. Slightly too juicy at certain spots, but does the job well. Beautiful synth work (it's so silky smooth to my ears!) and I enjoy the bassline, even if it "breaks" the rules. Truly, it sounds really pleasing to the ear. Good stuff cru. Sounds nice and airy, just like I like my music to sound :) Good stuff. Seriously.

crucethus replied 2nd Mar 2015 - 11 years ago
juicy ehh? I'm glad u liked it. Originally the opening drums were very low in the mixbut I found that when I stabilized it to the rest of the song it worked better.

Intro with some vocals...not so common on your tracks. Classy.
Then at 1:25 the synth arpeggio comes in: superb sound and the contrast with the "noises" (whip?) works very well.
I really admire your ability to build "moving carpets" with these pads. Good.
What is not "on-par" (according to my humble opinion) is the sound you chose for the synth melody at 3:33
(exactly half of the number-of-the-beast ... wow! firs the witches ...now this...what are you doing to me Cru?)

The slaps come in ... and I love the lead synth sound at 4:22 ... simply beautiful. You are the master!
Also the scales you are playing create little dissonances which prepare perfectly the chords in the next section.

The end "closes the circle"...

What can I say?
This is a thing of beauty.
Loved.
Ciao, Domenico

Monsieur Loup.
Merci for the nice comments. "Whip" drum was my attempt at something new.

"Moving carpets" is a cool expression for the Pads.
"exactly half of the number-of-the-beast ... wow! firs the witches ...now this...what are you doing to me Cru?)"

As someone who doesn't believe in fairy tales, I assure you the 3:33 is just a coincidence. (Or is it Muoooohhhhhaaaaaahhhaaaaa.sic evil laughter fades out into a seriously dark reverb panned hall)

"Also the scales you are playing create little dissonances which prepare perfectly the chords in the next section."

Good Catch, I solo'ed in Fm over a Cm scale.

"PS: have you noticed that you are dangerously moving into the zone of MrNomad track's duration? ;-)"

Ahh no fears as most of his works are twenty minutes long chopped into segments. Myself I wrote this long before I listened to his work and I think I have only recorded one tune that exceeds the twenty minute mark.

ood to hear from you
Ciao

Cru..(666...illuminati....redrum...) Sorry bout that...don't know what came over me....oh yes I do...irrationality...good day. ;-)
