Just like you said, slow rock! Has that kind of shoe gaze sort of vibe, mixed with some good classic rock. Digging the guitar work on this very much! Crazy vocal part, but it really works in this setting. Mail man knocked on the door and interrupted my listening, so I paused it, coming back I realized it was in the last couple of seconds... bummer. Very enjoyable to hear!
What a tasty, moody blues rock with stunning guitars...Domenico: I hope, I may get one from this project to put beside my favourite LPs and collections...
Thanks Danke!
I tried to do my best...I am not a great guitar player but it was a lot of fun.
I will "release" all these songs as a free download on bandcamp: I just need to clear the last couple of things ... and I will wait for the precious comments of the loopermen on the last 5 tracks that I will upload in the next days before releasing the 'album'
Ciao, Domenico
Very cool bluesy style on this one! I always enjoy interpretations of BD's spoken word, and you've done a great one here. The vinyl effect used is a cool one, and sets the tone well. Can't say there was anything in this I didn't like. Great work!
Awesome track mrwolf14! It's very laid back with a great groove to it. You blended the different elements together perfectly. And the poem from Billy Dragon fits with the track flawlessly. It was a really enjoyable listen and it's a Fav. Truly nice work.
Hi there brother Wolf. It's been a long time since I've listened to your work again. Man this mix is sounding clear already. Very Jazzy and laidback groovy type of sound. Snap your fingers yo! :) - B
An odd and interesting reverb on the opening drums. They sound very different from the other elements. Being panned a bit to the left helps separate them.
There is/was a band called "Snot" that had a particular jazzy/ominous movement of music that they put sporadically throughout their best album, "Get Some". They have a fantastic song on it called "My Balls, Your Chin". Hilarious. They are a kind of rap/rock, and their singer died back in the day.
Hi MrEvan,
The drums are a loop: I usually don't use drum loops (anymore) since I find the EZDrum approach much more flexible. But this song was meant to be a "different thing".
I heard a couple of songs from "Get Some": these guys are crazy... maybe not my favorite type of music, but fun to hear.
Thanks!
Ciao, Domenico
hey MrWolf,
that drum loop from the beginning reminded me of At The River by Groove Armada. Also I had to think of 'Harlequin' by PJBass - you seem to have quite similar bass line in here. That happy chord at the end sounded a bit unusal, I thought you might simply still keep on 'suspended' mood but this is just my personal perference.
I really like the concept of an entire album here, will it be available somewhere to listen as a whole complete thing?
I was thinking of making a real CD some day with my current pieces and I will send it to friends and people who inspired me to continue my music production.
I say that because listening to tracks on lm is always very fragmentary and selective - I like listening to albums.
Anyway very good work on this little piece here. I hope I will have time for listening to the rest very soon.
Alex.
Hi Alex,
Thanks for the comment. After reading it I reworked a bit the end and I went for a "less happy" chord, which introduces the next song in the album (The Trees).
As soon as I am done I will release these songs for free on bandcamp: I like their platform, and even if there is a limit of 200 downloads per month on free stuff, I think I will never hit the limit :-)
I find the idea of arranging music in an "album" very interesting: this forces us to pick the best tracks and build a kind of "flow" which should make sense for the listener. I hope you will also compile an album of your tracks: I like a lot your style and it would be interesting to hear it...
Take care, Domenico
Thanks a lot for the kind words!
I am a bit afraid that the whole guitar/keys are a bit too "easy" but I kind of like them.
Thanks again for the support.
Ciao, Domenico
Very interesting interpretation of these vocal parts! I agree it could be a good introduction to a track or bridge between two tracks on an album. Reminds me of what Alex(promenade) could be achieving with some more tonal enhancement and mastering. (not important, just listened to one of his songs so it was in my mind) Very trippy vibe to my ears. Had fun listening. Well played!
Hi Spiv, thanks for the comment.
I find it interesting (and I am honored) that you compared this track to Alex's work: he is one of the musicians here I admire and respect. So I consider a kind of "appraisal".
Thanks again!
Ciao, Domenico
This is really very good Domenico...I have a weird idea...cut it to 5 or 6 pieces...it's about 15 seconds music between your A side tracks...well?
I bought this number...so good...
Thanks for the comment Danke!
I like your idea of a "puzzle" song split across the album... I won't do it for this one but I will definitely consider the idea for the next collection of songs.
Cool!
Ciao, Domenico
Hi Domenico :)
How are you mi amico ?
Aw wow... ! What I'm listening to is so good... ! I'm happy to learn that you're working on an album, and you're right, this track could be an aerial introduction to another one. It completely "spatialises" me...
Clindsay's right (I think he's got an accurate sense of good taste),this beauty does not need any vocals to "stand on its feet" :)
And... should I remind you that whenever you need some, you can always ask me ?! I'd be delighted to have a try for you.
Third listening. I do enjoy the feeling and the third pure class part is my favourite.
Excellent job on all the instruments, hats off my friend.
Take good care,
abracio,
Carole
Hi Carole,
Good to read your comment…and thanks for the kind words.
Actually I will never consider removing your vocal parts from this song: all this started jus around your parts, so they need to stay in place!
Thanks again for sharing your immense talent with us!
Ciao, Domenico
Really great track here. Love how airy and open your chords feel, great choice of sustained chords to your credit. The only thing I would have to say is to maybe lower the volume of the vocals when they come in so they do not squash the mix so much.
Hi Rico,
I will consider lowering the vocals in the final mix: I tend to keep vocal parts much to the foreground, but in this case it should be considered as an "instrument" (and for me is always difficult to lower the volume on Janis' voice, I like her voice too much).
Very Nice - love the baseline - very clear and distinct. Great piano melody. Like the vocal treatments but his stands on it own without them. Could use some fleshing out possibly more piano as a bridge. Very good production values!
-clindsay
Thanks for the kind words and the interesting suggestions… I will probably leave this track as it is: for me it is more an introduction to the next song that something that "lives on its own".
Ciao, Domenico
well Domenico...I had to stop back here and give you hell (HaHa)...you are being way to hard on yourself man...I think the bass goes just fine with this one...its not too low and I think you have gotten rid of any of those mud frequencies between 2 & 400...I find I often boost the bass a bit around 80 Hz where it really seems to hit the big lows nicely...and the vocal is good...I personally like to hear a little warmth in the vocal especially in a mix like this where it smooths out nicely.....anyway....give yourself a pat on the back my friend...it sounds good and so do you (isn`t it funny how most of us don`t like the sound of our own voices...I wouldn`t dare sing myself).........Keep on doing it......Ed
Thanks Ed for your support.
I have uploaded a new version where I decreased a bit the frequencies between 150 and 350Hz: that's to say that I think you are right. :-)
I did not boost the bass (yet?) … need to listen on good speakers before.
I really appreciate your advices and your kind words.
Take care, Domenico
hi again, this is some very interesting interpretation of Janis' pella. The track feels like bit too short and sketchy but the arrangement is fine and I am really impressed that you played all instruments in here. That's very creative. Congrats. Alex
Thanks a lot for your comment Alex.
I know that the track is "short & sketchy"; I always wanted this to be just an "intermezzo" between two songs on my album (just a collection of songs for myself...nothing serious) so I did not want to overdo it.
This small piece uses same tempo/chords and epiano sound as the next track, but delivering a completely different feeling...don't know how much sense this makes but I liked the idea :-)
Take care,
Domenico
I very much like this tracky...the drum play is absolutely not that we wait for a chill out number...kinda jazzy/funky one...cool...like that delayed right to left tones from the piano, I think and the atmosphere of the song is very unique...kinda momentary mood...
Hi Danke, thanks for your words.
I know that "chill out" is not a good "genre" but I am very bad at choosing musical genres...
Imagine that it took me forever to understand that "fusion" is not "jazz fusion" as I was originally thinking...I start to feel old in this ever changing music world :-)
Ciao, Domenico
I can hear that you must have put a lot of thought and work into this mix Domenico...its really good...very nice contrast and yet in sync with the two voices...You really did a great job on this one (as usual)..The mix sounds good......Ed...(PS..human hearing doesn`t on average go below 30hz when its petfect...you can cut up to 40-50 & likely not hear the different except the amount of air the speakers move),,,
Thanks for the kind words Ed. You are too kind as usual.
And you are right with your comment on the low freqs: I usually put a low cut on 30Hz on "everything that I record". In this case I am having problems because I have some deep synth notes which may create some problems.
And I have probably still too much bass-freqs on my voice: trying to hide myself. I cannot sing and I am not too sure of my English pronunciation...I need to get over this.
Once more: thanks!
Ciao, Domenico
cool chill out track, I got head phones on and enjoying the cool bass line and love how you mixed in all the different instruments very smooth, nice work !
Very nice song Domenico. I like the opposing vocal styles, one talking and one singing, it works well with the music, a ballad pop/rock song. Every song needs that gut wrenching guitar to pull at the heartstrings a bit. Nice tone and phrasing on the guitar, really helps build the song and create emotion. Great use of strings and piano which to me can set that ballad feel on their own.
Your vocals could cut through a bit more, maybe too much bass on them. Seems like you plan to adjust the bass a bit. That would be my only suggestion, other than that this is a very pretty song, well done!
Thanks Wayne: the problem with my "vocals" is that I don't trust my voice that much...so it is very hard for me to have it "clear in the mix" :-)
I am working on reducing the lows: I usually work with earphones and there the "natural low cut" is hiding the problem.
Thanks again for the input!
Ciao, Domenico
your vocals blend very beautifully into your mix. also like the drum sound you get as well. very full and rich. nice work! I feel in general you could cut the lows a bit on the mix. All the best. Dan
Thanks for the kind words Dan...
I was actually thinking of adding a low-cut filter to the mix, to clean it up a bit. Thanks for pointing this out!

Wow! Donald Fagen! I don't know him "too well" but I have heard several things from Steely Dan and actually "Gaucho" is in my current playlist of this period.
Thanks a lot for the kind words.
