Richie is right about the vocals being in the wrong place.
It's like a three minute intro and a minutes singing at the end.
It's a shame cos there's a good piece here.
I think it terms of creating an atmospheric piece of music you have without doubt succeeded. The counter rhythms with the percussion and piano parts are excellent. For me the vocals maybe need to be earlier in the track to establish that nice vibe they have (the harmony is fantastic) and may be return again later. Just a thought!
Sorry to be negative but the vocals seem to have been buried ... swamped.
I can't really make them out very much.
Sounds like a good piece but badly produced.
Summats not right with it in my headphones but it sounds like a good piece that needs re approaching.
Please don't shoot me.
Haha, I was totally curious how you'd make this one work and it took me by surprise! I like the cool harmonies you added. This song is definitely atmospheric and has a very dreamy feel to it. I'm impressed with this man. This is why I make acapellas - to hear the cool stuff you guys can do with them!
Stunning piece of art. Really feel the summer nights vibe. Some nice cocktail on a warm summer evening with moonlight sinking in the water and this music on would make a night to remember. Thank you for sharing!
I enjoyed listening to this one! I don't really have much for suggestions, as it felt right the first time through. Definitely has an 80's influenced feel to it, maybe late 80's. Rose Erin is cool and talented, and it's good that you saved this pella for use. Had fun listening, but didn't get to pay close enough attention. Maybe I'll download for later enjoyment (thank you for that by the way). Nicely done!
Glad you liked it man! I was born early 70's, so yeah, the 80's were my years of inspiration, at least my first years of inspiration. Luckily I still get inspired every day (although there is so much music out there that it sometimes gets a bit difficult to "pick the pearls").
hi again, I saw your new track again on the list and had a chance to listen also to some of your older tracks. man this stands out so much from the lm standard. Simply produced with taste, eventhough if it is just a compilation of loops like this one. Im really enjoying that quality chilled/funked style. Keep producing! A.
I must admit to not checking out your other stuff after being so impressed by Coffee At Angelique's.
I think you're using pretty much the same synth bass sound here. It's a good one.
I have mixed feelings about these vocals as I don't like some of the phrasing. But you make them work really well in the track and they are distinctive and that's an important thing.
Busy, active, energetic music even though it's chillout. Lots of detail that I like (and like to do myself).
Intro is a good collection of pad sounds and then we have some nice, delayed shaker percussion. Then it's quite sparse with that very distinctive electro tom/bass drum sound. This reminds me of a specific female Norwegian artist from the last few years but I cannot remember her artist's name. Sorry - I will try to find out.
1:51 that vocal I really do like! 2:02 there's a dodgy note but not to worry.
So much space in this track that you seem to have given yourself the freedom to add lots of detail without the mix being cluttered. It's an excellent mix.
1:36 nice, playful synth arp.
2:39 you give us a more solid beat by bringing that regular kick in. Good variety after all the sparse drums before.
This is a pretty memorable track and the vocals have grown on me as I listen. A bit of a leftfield classic, actually.
3:40 good drum fill work. Not so sparse now. You're making it bigger and better, something I always look to do.
End choir stuff is pretty cool too.
Sorry, no real suggestions here but I'll try to think of something.
Thanks again for commenting so detailed. Although an occasional "nice track" or "well done" is good to read, it is even better to see people listening with an ear for details and the ability to analyse a piece of music.
"Mixed feelings on the vocals" is what I received back home a lot as well. I am sure however we can agree they are special. And sometimes I just like using the specials to break my own rules. You probably know what it is like, producing yet another track within the context of your own reference frame with the result that you do create recognizable tracks, but also run the risk of getting a bit lazy every now and then. There's no renewing in my music if I don't try out the specials :-).
So thanks again for listening and your comments and I hope to read and hear more of you in the future :-).
very smooth sounding and perfectly constructed song at first listening. I do not know why but it remided me of Prince from Purple Rain for some reason.
Now I'm gonna take it with me, thanks for allowing downloads! Alex
Thanks for being such a devoted listener and commenter Alex! Much appreciated.
And don't worry about the downlad. Since I have have decided that earning money in the music business has nothing to do with quality, but all with marketing and promotion, I decided it's all about sharing anyway :-).
wowie! that's maybe not what you wanna hear but this is awesome man. :D
i knew already that you make fantastic tunes, i remember coffee at angeliques. love the vibes here too and i can feel it was made with passion and reckless attention to detail.
what follows now is extreme nit-picking stuff and honestly i don't even feel comfortable saying this because ultimately it comes down to personal interpretation and preferences. for me at around 1:57 i think there are even some sexier notes hidden, i can't exactly tell what or how to fix it. it's usually trial and error here and i know it can be tricky to not get used to a part that you have heard looping for an hour.
besides that i can't fault anything. for my taste and hearing capabilities it is pretty much perfect. to be fair i haven't slept very much last night and spent the last 10 hours or so mixing and it's safe to say i am very tired. but i listened on headphones and i perceived it as brilliant. no... freaking brilliant!
i am hearing many adorable influences in here. for example the art of noise and guy sigsworth came to mind. the chords in the end kill it (in a good way).
will have to listen again and again. in case i should come up with something that's actually useful i would definitely get back to you and let you know.
thanks for the download as well!
cheers
Wowie! is actually exactly what I'm looking for :-). Thanks again for the kind words. About the alledged nit-picking, that's also something I am looking for. The devil is in the detail, so anything to improve my tracks/ability to create them is more than welcome.
I listened to the part you mentioned. I completely understand what you're saying by not hearing it any more after listening to it for not just an hour, but many :-). However, I just picked it up and to be honest, that specific part was meant to be kind of empty or sober. I did however change pitch several times in the acapella. Maybe I did could have chosen something else, but I am not sure either.
Art of noise has been a hige favorite for me since Moments in Love. So refreshing and renewing. Guy Sigsworth I don't know, but will look it up later today.
Let me know if you have found anything else to add by now :-).
Good to hear you back...your music is always unique and gives us special listenings...this time this voice...so special...honestly, I don't like this kinda girlyboy sound but in your song, it works...superb instrumentalism right here with stunning mix, so I'm a bit 'small' to give you offerings what to do or not...I just simply enjoyed your new track with a smile in my face...:-)
That is all we need sometimes, right? A smile on our faces :-). Thanks again for listeing and leaving a comment. Not sure why you wouldn't feel OK to offer some advice sir :-). I appreciate your feedback as much as anyone elses.
About the vocal, yeah I know what you mean. At the same time, they were quite unique and I just like anything non-mainstream every now and then. Just broadening my own horizon a bit.
Anyway, Thanks again for you feedback.
And as Niles' mother once said: "A handshake is as good as a hug" :-).
You might have made this about a place in winter but i'm getting a real summer time vibe off this. It's clean sounding, it's cool and everything about it oozes class.
Love the synth, love the guitar and like the samples as well.
I don't normally go for chill out but this is so well done i'm going to just have to hit that download button so i can hear it again later.
Brilliant!
FR
Thank you so much for your compliments, keeps me going. And I just love it that you had the courage to cross the chill out line :-). I hope you will ejoy the track for a while.
Lovely track. For me it was the bass, which was the pick of the lot. Superbly played by all the musicians and a perfect Chillout winter track it is! Great Mix & special applause to Mr. Slap Johnson, Sax part was wonderful Sir :)
Yeah, I love that bass too. Sometimes you just get lucky twisting knobs :-).
Slap Johnson and Franco Quadroni are simply great musicians. people like them add so much to Looperman (and therefor the tracks I make). I can't thank them enough.
And to you, thanks for listening and your feedback!
There are probably quite a few people who have got track reviews because of my thread (best simple idea I've had in ages) who probably hardly use the site anymore so haven't even seen the comments.
Yes, Rhodes can provide awesome atmosphere. A lot of people find that. I've used it in quite a few tracks over the years. Here's a big chillout track in which it's very prominent:
You should really think about contributing to my thread and selecting some of your favourite ever Looperman tracks. Maybe you'll suggest something unusual. Perhaps something hardly anyone has heard.
Very smooth and chilly.
Enjoyed it: my personal highlight are the guitars, the jazz one (~1:45) and the more funky rhythm one that follows (~2:25) and opens a very interesting more "complex" section of the track.
The synth-bass sound is "on-spot".
Well done!
Ciao, Domenico
PS: big thanks to MrNomad for pointing this out in his forum thread!
Many thanks for taking the time to check out the track and your compliments. Actually, most credits go to the "real" musicians like Franco Quadroni and Slap Johnson. Without the solo´s it would be just another little chill out track. So you can imagine how happy Looperman makes me all the time :-).
The bass sound was quite a puzzle to be honest. I got some feedback on the first try and that really helpd me in creating the perfect sound to lead this track.
And yes, many thanks to Nomad for creating the extra platform and to Promenade for listing my track!
Hi. I started up a forum thread about favourite ever tracks on Looperman and promenade2239 chose this very track as one of his favourites. I thought you might like to know. I'm glad he did because I'd never heard of you and this is an excellent piece of music.
I owe you a big apology for not replying any sooner!
Thank you very much for creating an extra platform for members likes. In addition thanks for listening to the track. Glad you like it. As mentioned in my reply to Domenico, the bass sound was quite a job to get right. But I do like the result of other listener's input on it. And your comment on the 80's hip-hop vibe was given before too (although it was never my intention to create something like that at all :-)).
Yes, there is a Rhodes playing chords. I just love the Rhodes and use it many tracks, since it creates the atmosphere I like so much. Just a few simple chords can actually direct the whole track.
Yeah, the vocals... :-). Just thought to do something very little a bit differently.
Anyway, many thanks for your feedback and compliments man! Much appreciated.
this is so hot and listening to that makes me smooth and happy.
the bass alone is killer and i will listen to this many times. not only because i feel like there is a lot to learn but because this sound is bliss to me, therapeutic almost.
honestly i can't think of a tune i'd rather listen to on a cold morning with some fresh brew.
nothing better to get started into a new day than they way you described it.
next time in nyc i will get two large cappucinos from this place and listen to your tune the way you intended.
i know it sounds far fetched but the day will come. i hope they will still be around...
i really tried to find some constructive critique to say about this lovely track but this mixing and musicianship is way beyond my finesse and on them headphones it sounds so sexy and pretty much flawless, i can't fault anything really.
kudos also to the other musicians involved, Franco Quadroni, Slap Johnson and Know Kontrol.
Many thanks for commenting on my track. So glad you like it and even more that it makes you happy! You are actually the first to call my music therapeutical :-), and I will take it as big compliment! nmever looked at it like that before.
The best thing however in your comment is the fact you get the feeling I was trying to pass. It was exactly that, freezing cold winter's mornings, but still needing to be just outside to really experience that. I need to disappoint you however, I was informed that Café Angelique closed that place recently. Very unfortunate, but there are still 2 other shops on Manhattan they run :-).
Of course it is actually the real musicians that make this track. I am just putting it together around and in between the solo's. And don't worry, most of this track is a result of just simple luck. We all need some luck every now and then while creating our tracks, right? ;-)
hi again, very relaxing music - carefully produced and edited with so much attention to details - I really appreciate that! I like the way how you choose some one specific spectrum of sounds each time creating very fine unique soundscape. Your tracks are probably the chillest of this site!
I can see some 'doorways' like at 2:14 when some space appear in the recording and you can go ahead with some double-tempo feel putting some nice improv! That's why the entire track seems a bit too short for me. But of course as a commertial-oriented chillout genre this is a perfect track. I like it a lot.
Alex
Sorry man, I missed this reply in October. Thanks again for listening and commenting. I appreciate your compliments, but I am sure there a lot of members that make way better sounds.
Thanks you for the tip. Let me take a look at it again somewhere this week to see what would work. It is always nice to hear your comments. You have a well trained ear and hear things I do not anymore, after weeks of production (I'm sure you know what it feels like :-)).
I just realized I made some quite similar music a few weeks ago. It's not so well produced as yours but it contains lots of improv instead. You may check it out if you like: https://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/159847
Thanks Alex, just listened to both and especially your own track I love! Of course your additions to this track are beautiful as well. It is so great to see some one being inspired by this track. Thanks for taking the effort to make it better!
Nice, love the way it starts out, kinda all techno-e, then bam hits you with some funk, then a lil jazz then that sick sax solo comes in, and just......... yah... I'm diggin this, great job, your super talented, I don't think I have to tell you to keep up the super terrific work but, keep it up. FT
Thanks you FT! Glad you like the result. But I am not so sure on the talented part however :-). Sometimes we get just a bit lucky when creating a new track.
hi, thanks for sharing the sounds of such a great quality!
I like this composition a lot - it reminds me of some deep chillout songs I have listened a few years ago. This one evokes the memories and some nice atmosphere - very relaxing and soothing. Love the gentle phased Rhodes and pads in the background. Great drums and funky bassline. Somehow you might add some more ambience to all solo lines - it will sound more even dreamy and far-out than it is already! I like the sax solo - its better mixed in the recording. Excellent laidback guitar playing by Franco. But still the Rhodes make this song! Beautiful production - love it! Alex
Hi again Alex! Yeah, I think we agree on Rhodes in general, don't we :-). Mixing the sax was quite a challenge since the original file was recorded in 11.025 KHz. I recently did another mix of the track, doubling the sax, panning one to the left and the other to the right and shifted the second track 1/64th. A lot of Slap's sax solo's are recorded with reverb, unfortunately. It makes his great solo's more difficult to mix in the tracks I make.
Anywaym thanks for listeing, commenting and listing it in the "nice Looperman tracks" thread :-).

Bass synth is instantly cool. Makes me think of 80s hip hop.
0:20 shimmering pad is cool and is there Rhodes as well? Fat drum beats that drive this dreamy chill groove along. Just the kind of things I like.
1:02 fun lead and now it's even cooler groove chilling.
1:40 vocals were a surprise and then it's some jazz guitar, saxes and much more.
Good overall length.
