I dunno why, but Staind's earlier stuff just popped into my head (mainly how he'd do that mumbling whisper thing at times). Here I'm thinkin that you could do somethin like "Ah yeeeeah" (or similar scat, like the sigh at the tail end of the piece) here and there before your breaks from singing. And now I'm thinkin of Gravity Kills and am thinkin that it might be cool if you broke away from using effects every once in a while. Anyways, that's all I got. Lates!
Yes, I am recording now on my iphone voice recorder. Need to get some new equipment for better voice recording/editing. Guess it's not too early though to start experimenting with that. This one is definitely busy. I was told that before I added vocals but just went with it. Thanks again for reviewing one of my sleeping(non-featured) tracks!
I like the overall vibe of this ('specially the intro riff). The vocals are pretty much dead on, remindin me of something out of a live PA. Though one suggestion I would make is to periodically fade-up the music to better match the vox (like for the parts where there are lulls in yer signing). Wonders what the full vers sounds like? Lates!
Yes, I agree, I recorded this one twice and the second time, I feel I am yelling to much. Gotta give it some sort of relaxed feel. This is the full version for now. Songs are short. I'll need to expand them. Thanks for reviewing one of my non-featured tracks!
Nice, thought i would check back in and see how your doing, i gotta say your music is the most distinct. you know you should make a couple demo albums and try getting signed. Your style almost reminds me of slipknot and That is pretty awesome. and ya know what ever your doing for recording works, its obvious you dont need expensive equipment to produce that unique sound. im really diggin your style man, its just so fascinating how you can fit all these things that don't usually work together so well. i know i've commented on your vocals before, and i gotta say their getting a little better, i love that distortion, and the beat that you got with it. i remember you said you weren't much of a singer, but what if you added some other kind of vocals to your tracks, growls, screams, whispers, and it would help you gain that extra depth on the vocals. my last comment though is that i like to remember the law "what goes up must come down" and your tracks are always so elevated with power, and thats not a bad thing at all, i actually really like it. but id like to see what you could do with a couple of 'breakdowns'. i bet it would just be sicker than sh*t!
anyways, nice to see that your still going strong, i'll try to keep an eye out for your next track.
Much respect, Fayz
ps. i gotta tell ya, you've gotta be one of my favorites here on looperman, i just love your style bro, well i gotta go make some more reviews, but like i said i'll keep an eye out for ya, peace
Cool. I agree with what you are saying. This music does not have a strong emotional element to it, not a lot of people walk around feeling this arrogant and high energy all the time. My goal with this has been to try and get the lyrics to sound cool and I agree with what you are saying, it could help to try and relate it to what people sometimes feel while continuing to do what I do. There is a lot more processing I could do but sometimes I get lazy. I should quit my day-job and do this all day. Maybe one day I will. Thanks for the kind remarks and Ill have to get over and listen to your stuff sometime.
pretty neat track, generally i dont like things like this, but i think you made it work. the distortion on the vocals is pretty cool to, i dont know many people that can make that work without blowing the quality out the door, unless they only use a very small almost unnoticeable amount. i couldn't follow to much with the lyrics though but im sure if any one listened to it enough they could get it. overall it's a pretty cool track. the vocals seemed a little monotone though. not that you need to change the way you preform your vocals i think its cool, i think it would be pretty cool though if they changed from left to right ear and back each time you spit out a phrase, would really give it that edge that would make more and more people want to listen to it over and over ya know? but again im not telling you how to run your own show im just adding my two cents as a idealist. overall great job and i hope to hear more.
Yes, I've thought about switching like you say but having another voice of my own or someone else say parts to break it up. I am not a singer, which is why I have taken to rap. Once I get some real recording equipment, Ill record some singing etc and see if anything sounds good. A better option though would be to get someone who sings to do parts. This is definitely one of the more helpful honest reviews, thanks!
like this one alot, would like the guitars a bit louder though, but thats just my preference, what with being a guitarist,we all like to be as loud as possibe.
Actually what happened is that I increased everything I thought was too quiet and did not touch the guitars and now the guitars are too quiet. When I remaster this, Ill have to make it all more even. Thanks!
Thanks! Seems like this one gets more plays than my other featured track. Gotta turn it up though because I kept the volume kinda low when recording these to try and eliminate any unwanted distortion (even though the base, guitars, and voice are distorted). Thanks for the nice words!
dope stuff mane i like this style of yours major props keep doin it yeah i agree with nick q wish i could sample the lyrics cuz it was all dope. peace352ezy.
hell yeah! Great stuff... You need to be in front of a live drummer & tour the world. in other words, the only thing I hear that could be improved is the drums on this track. Find him/her & this is PERFECT!
Yes, the drums are fast but I did not go through and use a lot of variation. Also, I understand drums on a basic level but have never gotten around to getting formal training. Therefore, anyone who has formal training with any of these instruments might be about to improve that particular aspect of these songs. Therefore, I agree! Anyways, thanks for the kind remarks, and since I am always looking to improve, feel free to critique this stuff at any time!
Hey John, it was simple. I originally had a demo version of the Acid Pro, which is where I mixed the loops originally. I eventually bought Acid 7.0 and opened the song as one loop and then, I record the lyrics on my iphone voice recorder(since I already had this). Then I convert the voice memo into a MP3 so that I can open it in Acid. Then I skip the beatmapping (which will always throw the tempo off). Then I open the effects option in Acid, and I turn on the distortion and adjust the %(0-100) until I like the sound. I also will enable the "Hard Clipping" and adjust the equilibration(Bass, Mid, Treble) on the lyrics. It's always different for each song, because I just mess with the lyrics and the song until I like the sound. Thanks!
Yes, the tempo of these songs is definitely high. It is set to the default of 120 bpm. I kinda put these together all at the same time. In the future, I'm going to try and write some slower tempo tracks. Thank you very much for the compliments!
I think the metal aspect of this is straight. Gotta slipknot feel to it. I think the lyrics need a little cleared up and raised in volume. The distortion on the vox is ok for the Corey Taylor vibe mabey just decrease it a little. Cool track though! I was diggin it. Def reminded me of the way Taylor flows on the first Slipknot album. The guitar work reminded me of the knot at times as well. Will probably come back for another listen sometime. Good stuff man!
It's funny but I've always been a Slipknot fan. Too bad I don't have Taylor's voice but who does? All the lyrics were done in one take. Can't wait to get some better equipment and see if I can improve the overall sound of my music. Until then, I just work on the ideas. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, I turned the distortion up to 94% on that one. I also record my voice on the iphone, so the quality can't be that great. Thanks for the feedback!
