I hear things that need fixing like track volume levels. I would also go back and arrange some things differently, change some vocal stabs, add better guitar licks...

The drum loops I feel would have limited me to some extent if I spent the usual 2 weeks mixing but that was sorta good for this exercise in a way as I didn't have to fuss too much with them.

Hey Mark! Something quick and a little out of my comfort zone, reggae isn't something I play often.

All the tracks were one takes and 2 quick mixes. Little rough in spots where I could easily go back and adjust/fix but that wasn't the purpose of the song.

Probably only the 3rd reggae song I ever put together and considering the tracking took about half an hour I think it came out ok. I was thinking more of this one for music behind a surf video, instrumental rather than full of words, background music to some cool surf clips.

Hey Leon! Thanks!

I know the songs his style of playing is suited for when I put these tracks together. When he jumps on a track I feel confident he will play what is needed for the track. I just noodle on electric guitar as it's not what I feel the most comfortable playing but Jim attacks it with reckless abandon and I like that style. He even surprises himself when he hears what I put together from his tracking sessions.

His wife was walking around the house singing "Uh Oh Ee Uu!" after she heard it, ha! She liked the song when it came out too I guess.

We certainly have a similar musical thought process that when we record we just seem to get it done the way we are both pleased with the outcome, except for my mixing skills. he

Definitely got a rocky, country blues thing going on. Great live guitar take too. Play it with a live band in the right kind of bar & the audience would love it. This is a very clean, professional sounding track. Great job.

Someone on youtube did a professional video for it filmed in L.A. where they were able to digitally remove all the vehicles on the highways and streets while people skateboarded down empty once busy roads. But the guy took it down, bummer.

Jim worked for a while directing trains at the busiest station in New Jersey/New York so getting him to join in on this one was easy.

I enjoyed this! The overall mix sounds pretty solid. Everything blended together nicely. If im being a critic I would say the vocals were a bit bland, perhaps some more reverb would of evened things out. I really enjoyed the lap steel. Good stuff, overall nice song.

Just so happens my stage name is El Blandido(the Blandit) so that works out good, ha!

I'm not a lead singer so my voice, when i sing, is what you're gonna get. I try my best but i'm not a lead singer. Ya need vocals in songs to work on mixing so I step up to the plate and sing if need be.

Just did a quick remix to tighten things up.

This is a wonderful, edgy rendition of Switchblade. This is what I call "dangerous" music. Go on witcha bad self. Bravo to Jimmy Stiles.

You're so right. Link Wray was ahead of his time. That pompador, swagger and talent influenced so many guitarists who are now revered.

Oh yeeeeeessssss! Magic intro, i love the drumming, how the guitars turn it around... magic bassline! This track is full of compliment, what can i say more, but that one day i would like to use some real guitars in my songs and not vst ones!!! Magic!

There are some good guitar simulation programs out there, they are getting better but it's nothing like a human performing with an instrument.

Thanks Mark! Jim is a big fan of Link's music so doing this song was fun to put together and arrange for me and Jim got to go nuts on a favorite song of his. Kept the drums and bass close to the original and Jim did his thang on guitars, he went nuts, ha!

Thanks Leon! Link Wray was a man ahead of his time when it came to distortion and hard rock back in the mid 50's.

Hard to believe there are rnb and hip hop artists in the Rock n Roll HOF before Link Wray, what a shame he isn't in it when i consider him a founding father of r n r. Crazy....

Thanks man, my ears are still bleeding from the session, lol!

I have a new idea going with Jim, just putting it together, a rockabilly cover. He plays by instinct, feel. When we record i ask him to prepare and listen to the song, play along with it but not to learn specific parts. He just lets it rip, i totally love this approach when working with him.
