on 4-6 - Dont Give me your Jingle Bells by BaoBou
When you stated that this was an anti-Christmas song, I didn't really know what I was gonna end up hearing. Firstly, this is definitely NOT an anti-Christmas song. It's more about what is more important than a single day out of the year (my take, anyways). The chorus is BRILLIANT--the best part of the track by far. From a lyricist point of view, the verses need a bit of tweaking--they don't stand up to that chorus. So, I hope you will consider that, because I believe this could be a great not-so-much-of-an-anti-Christmas-song! Definitely one I would sing. Well done!

That's a very good call Mykael! I wrote and recorded the whole thing in a couple hours and the lyrics (and the vocals) definitely suffered. There's also bits of the drumming and the guitar I want to improve, but you're right, the vocals and lyrics are the higher prio.
My plan is to take the weekend and the Christmas break to improve both a bit - then next year November or so give it another go and produce a brand-new fresh and improved version for that holiday season. And man, the idea of you singing my song... that's a dream!!

HAha IT's not very poppy I guess - it felt more like punk, almost, especially with Animal on the drums throughout the track. But if you had fun and you started wiggling your toes throughout the track then I'm good!

The production quality is top-notch, and the blend of melodies and rhythms creates such an immersive vibe. I especially love how the layers build up to keep the energy flowing throughout. You've really nailed the balance between creativity and structure. Very good one.

A superb jazz track - look what came out of your frustration - I bet u were glad that you seg-wayed towards this, when you look back. Raw emotion comes through. In my mind, there is a single red rose on the piano as you play. Lovely. Kay0s

You have done a great job but with so many words it is I think more complicated to make the music fit - perhaps Kays comment about it fitting in a musical points to narrative weight of the poem. Still very well played and produced
BaoBou
BaoBou replied 18th Dec 2024 - 10 months ago
Thanks Ian!
Your comment about fitting the music is well noted. You would want to see a bit longer musical break? That sounds very good!
I created some more space around 2:30 by muting one verse. What do you think? Thanks a lot man for listening and commenting honestly!!

It was a very difficult task this one BaoBou. You did an excellent work in adapting this beautiful poem to your music, which in this case really "hugs" the lyrics and everything becomes more warm and humane. Everything fitted very well and the outcome is an awesome song.
My best regards, Anthony.

on 4-2 All I have to say by BaoBou
hi mate this is excellent, really nice playing and the vocal sits lovely on it, really captures the vibe catchy as hell too, its a nice love song and it was a really good listen. everything is balanced great i am really impressed with everything about it, top show nothing better than live and this is live well done.
changing the subject slighty please tell me you know what a Christmas cracker is in the UK you live here, i had no idea us English are the only people that have them, i found this out yesterday, trying to explain to Rita what they are as i mentioned them on her track she didn't have a clue' i googled the Dutch for them and there isn't one nobody but us mad Brits i was in hysterics laughing at the replies on google nearly 60 and i have just found this out lol' everyday is a lesson here not necessarily music either, im still shocked and its so hard to explain what they are to people who have no idea Rita must now think we are all lunatics in the UK
BaoBou
BaoBou replied 15th Dec 2024 - 10 months ago
Well of course you're all lunatics, that's a given. You drive on the wrong side of the road, you measure people in stones and racecourses in furlongs and you think mushy peas is something you can eat. On the other hand, all that has given you an excellent sense of humour and some fine music so it's not all bad.
I've watched so many British shows over the decades that yes of course I know what a Christmas cracker is, and yes that's an excellent example of why you're bonkers :)
Almost as bonkers as the Dutch I'd say.

And thanks for listening mate :)

In my view, the singer-songwriter era spanning from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s produced some of the most remarkable music. During this period, singer-songwriters crafted songs that resonated with their unique vocal styles. Their compositions were infused with a distinct passion that illuminated the lyrics. Additionally, it was an era characterized by an artist-centric music industry. This track evokes those sentiments for me. I found this track to be thoroughly enjoyable. Well done.

LovePeace&Light,

Mykael

BaoBou replied 15th Dec 2024 - 10 months ago
That's a huge compliment. I didn't grow up with those songwriters (I listened to classical music as a kid) but obviously people like Bowie, Jackson Browne, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Costello (and later Terence Trent D'Arby and Prince) influenced me massively.
If you can hear my passion for music and lyrics in my songs... then I did something right.
Thank you so much for listening and always being supportive Mykael!

Wom - Great track BB - and those vocal takes were worthwhile because this is a top class vocal performance and then let me say that Im not even sure if that is the cherry on the cake because the song as whole is fantastic - drums, guitars, keys, lyrics, production - everything is just so fine and so nicely balanced.
Huge congratulations on such a beautiful track.

Very, very beautiful song here. It is the lyrics that are so good for a song to be made and it is the performance of yours. Excellent guitars but this does not mean the rest of the instruments were short on anything. A really pleasant listen BaoBou
Best wishes, Anthony.

Eyxaristw poly Antwnh!
It was actually one of my Greek colleagues who triggered this song. She reported on a project and said "That's all I have to say" and I thought that would be an excellent title for a song.... And this is what came out of it :)

this is really good! do you record the instruments individually?
BaoBou
BaoBou replied 13th Dec 2024 - 10 months ago
Well I'd have to run around a lot if I didn't, it's all me ;)

This is a song that I'd written on the piano, and I've played it live a couple times before recording, so I had a decent idea what I wanted to do.

Usually I start from some jam, but here I mapped out the song, played the drums for the first section, added the piano, then the bass... rinse and repeat for each section, with many takes, hundreds of vocals takes, guitars added, and then loads more fixes and takes and changes to the mix and corrections and little ideas until I give up and new ideas start to come out :)

on 4- I wont miss you by BaoBou

About your track.
Just beautifull and the text is recognizable to many.
We respond that way but we don't mean it.
It is also a catchy song because of how you sing i dont miss you.
The music is great again.
As we have come to expect from you

BaoBou replied 12th Dec 2024 - 10 months ago
Dank je wel Rita!
Als je wil... stuur me de stems van je Karma track zonder processing en laat mij es kijken of ik er wat mee kan?
All of us here occasionally go back to our tracks and think "what the hell was Ithinking" and then for other tracks you listen with trepidation and find out that actually, that was pretty good - or sometimes even wow, was that me?
I also know the same can happen for the same track :) So I try not to delete too many... every track is a part of your personal journey and believe me, you're moving forward!

When someone with alot of raw talent eventually finds their groove, the sweet spot, so to speak, of their musical ability, and then branches out in all directions from there, their versatility becomes hard to match. Its easy to forget that Any dude could bang on a guitar all day long and not make a single note that commands any attention. That is why, for me, listening to the music you are making now leaves me in a bit of awe sometimes. One couldnt buy experience or musical personality even if one wanted to, congratulations on putting in the work and achieving results man. Lovely.

Thank you so much my friend!
I've been in the same hole for the past year or so. Couldn't get the creative juices going, couldn't find the time, couldn't find the energy, the words I wanted to say, no interesting melodies, nothing that stuck.
I did 2-3 things that I think helped me:
* I completely rearranged my office/studio so everything was a bit easier to find again. The easier it is to play, the better
* I went to a concert that inspired me a lot! (Jacob Collier). Also, because he is so insanely good, I sort of felt freed up to be crap and do my own thing
* I started simple. The simplest exercise I could find, some 30 second clip. It helped me to find the fun in the process again, and then the rest came naturally.

Don't be hard on yourself. You are a creative guy - even if you don't write anything for a decade, it's still there, and you'll be back.

Hugs!
