Wow, that's so nice! Thank you! Yeah I went in three years from "Oh god my voice is horrendous let's not sing" via "well, let's try" to "actually, that wasn't bad". I'll never be Jose Carreras, but at least it's not that cringe anymore.

You know who is to blame for that? Dave Grohl :) He said we are so poisoned by "America's got next talent runway x-factor" and all those silly programs - Bob Dylan or Mick Jagger or any number of artists would never make it there. Just sing to the best of your abilities and get a tiny bit better every day... and then I tried it :)

It's funny, I didn't listen to pop music in the 70s (although I'm old enough), instead I grew up with classical music. When Idid start listening and discovered Steely Dan (because I was a fan of the band Deacon Blue and read in the "Pop Encyclopedia" they were named after a song), I immediately felt a pang of recognition - hey, that's the kind of music I'd love to make. (Obviously I don't have their skills, talent or studio time. Or backing singers and guitarists. Man.)

Haha, my daughter is not extremely receptive to my tracks, so while I might play it to her at some point, I'm also prepared for indifference or possibly embarrassment.
My girlfriend is pretty similar - often the best reaction I can get is "No we didn't meet in a cafe" but occasionally if she then says "I like that one"I know it's real. My daughter has never even acknowledged the existence of my music :D

I still love her to bits :)
