i love the feeling.. there is a fantastic sense of imminent death... in fact, for some reason it made me think of imminent death...
I am gonna be really completely honest with you n0mad23, as , really all we are, are musicians with avatars, and you remember about a month ago? when all those thunderstorms came out thru washington?... i was in east washington, and thru my depressive and frustrated state, i drove into the storm, and parked in the heart of it, and walked around screaming and cursing at God.
I lived, and that has to mean something...
maybe personal experiences have to do with replays on a track?
gonna download this and listen some more tomorrow.
Wow - this is a very interesting review. It's an "ego" stroke to think the music caused this kind of reaction. I've been wondering lately about sensory priority lately and certainly sound is closer to the real than image. For sure a particular sound can jack you right back into a memory - and there's no better mnemonic device for accessing said memories.
I don't get "imminent" death from it - but I do see the connection. Simian defiance is about standing and facing death, but hopefully staring it down in the process. Like your own experience in the storm?
Credit where it's due: thanks everyone for the fabulous samples used here.
yeah its hard to get that revision EXACTLY the way you want it sometimes.
i have learned myself really well when it comes to revisions.
you just gotta know what you want and how you want it.
I'm now wondering just how nice Ableton Live must be. I'm doing this all on freeware so I think it speaks volumes about the fabulous samples that are available on this site. Maybe once I've got past this brutal learning curve and figure out what limitations I won't be able to transcend, I'll really be able to create some excellent dub. I can't believe how much fun this approach really is!!
Nice one man, this is really music for exploring the magic of the world around us, your music has so many influences that it's hard to categorize..and that's the best part about it! your mastery of polyrhythms really comes out here against the sitars and other sounds weaving in and out..did u use psychotropic circle loops too? His stuff is great too..
thanks for sharing your artistry!
victormusic01x...in the nyC..trying to figure out if I can stop this anoying rain with all the great music I've been listening to lately on looperman....!
It's a funny thing - this was the first track I felt I'd "succeeded" on and now it's my least favorite. I love the samples psychotropic circle has posted and I think I should probably send a personal thank you note for making them available. Glad you enjoy!
nice track man.
this is COMPLETELY different from the music i usually listen to.
its always good to mix things up, and this track is the perfect way to do so.
diggin the drums hardcore!!
Thanks! It was a fun track to draft, and I wish I was having better success in the revision I can hear in my head. If I can pull off this down-tempo ending I think it'll be SOOOOO much better.
Cool track. I like the layered drums : Central Africa meets Berlin electro heads. Thought the drums could vary a bit later on in the track, maybe shift them in relation to the main beat or something.
Thanks. It's still getting picked at (slow dissatisfaction) but your idea is basically what I'm trying to do with the revisions. I'm attempting to take the boduberu samples (from Maldives -thnx ShareX) and down tempo them at the end. I'd like them to progressively slow down and fade with the sound of the storm. I'm doing this with Audacity and finding it to be a real challenge. I'll shoot you an email when it's done and see if it mirrors what you had in mind. Cheers.
Another great track, the more I listen the more I like it,be careful if you close your eyes for too long cause you could end up in a place far, far away....
thanks for sharing this !
without repeating anyone else here b4 me.. ;)..so layered that I'm listening to it another couple times right now not to miss anything, first, I noticed that we are digging alot of the same loops and secondly that we probably have listened to alot of the same music! this site has opened up a whole other door into music for me, previously unexplored...
awesome!Thanks for sharing your music
I agree. So much about dubbing it up is all about the samples - so I'm not surprised we're drawn to the same sounds. I am an old analog chap, so this realm is strange and delightful. I'll be checking out your page(s) presently - Cheers!
Great work man... love the work u've done. its really different from the way we've ever used boduberu. Hope i get a chance to upload more loops soon. Thank you.
One of my best friends is an ethnomusicologist, so I was completely blown away that the Boduberu drums existed here (This is not my first encounter with Doduberu). Now I see why - ShareX, you're from Maldives! Please upload more loops! The quality of these three ARE BRILLIANT! Thank you ShareX.
Here's an inspiration. Find and listen to The Orb - Orblivion CD. This has soooo many of the same sorta qualities in it. Trance and not trance, ambient but much more 'on the ground'.
I'm gonna DL this and do a Jah Know special on it. Lemme know if you want to work up this idea any further as it has an interesting dubby feel init.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Planet. Those percs are awesome. Though they sound sorta familiar, dunno where from, but it's trippin me out. And the bass kinda adds to the whole tribal vibe of this. Thanks for sharing. Later on!
The intro percussion is by Psychotropic Circle, so I'd imagine they sound familiar, as they are pretty darn distinctive! I went back and checked, and I did review and link the loops used to this track. I've definitely got my own bias when it comes to the ledger, and a good perc track will make or break the song. For sure there are some fine percussion loops that have been posted on this site. Thanks for checking it out Donnie.
I kept wanting to stop this track but I felt compelled to keep playing it so it's definitely got something for me here. I like the Jungle vibe you got going here. I know it's Ambient but I felt it needed to have some sort of counterpoint to give me the feeling it was going somewhere. I love the whole Ambient genre thing and this piece has definitely got potential.
Yeah, it's definitely a draft. Potential - yes. I'm actually playing with jahknow's advice and trying to break it up and dub in the right base and snares - but we'll see. Thanks for the counterpoint suggestion here.
Brother this goes in dub. trust me! Every bit of this was a dub track. The usage of the samples the play on delay and reverb etc. Straight trance dub in my books.
AND, you could totally cut that groove up and make it evolve in and out of a deep thumpy jungle bassline along with some marchy snare work. Lovin' it quite a lot, but brings in the sub bass tones and cracks here and there for accent.
Oh no! I think all my stuff here is trance dub. It's funny I'd log in to find this - I was just playing around with some Reggaeton Dembow samples to see if this was the solution. Breaking it up as per your suggestion might be the key. Sweet. Thanks for response.
sounds like a college party i went to once, when i got totally smashed and everything sounded like one, but your track doesnt, it has a clear and even set pieces, and yea reading planets review it does need some high end or low end action. I was thinking maybe some kind of aborignie (i cant spell it) dancing or something, that would go well with such and organic arrangement,
Thanks DJ_JEZZA. High and low end action...this has got me thinking about the possibility of a drone weaving in and out as well. I'm going to pull up the multi-track and see what might work. Thanks!
Hey n0mad ..interesting rhythms with great ambience..seeing as you asked for some constructive comments..my first impression is the mix is very even and uniform..also the very top end and lower frequencies are hardly being utilised...which leads me into thinking this would be a great vehicles for a solo of some description..I don't think it matters whether it's instrumental or vocal..or even human..I'd love to hear a chorus of frog calls ranging from deep to high trills..that's what I like about what you've done here it's very organic and could work with a multitude of different approaches...cool stuff!..cheers planet :)
Exactly why I'm asking for advice/help here - I agree - there's room for some sort of solo and I think that's what it really needs. I can hear a woman's voice, possibly lyric free, and I actually thought about an oboe. Thanks.
Tottaly unique. A really different one. I like this chill ambiance you putted in your track. As fiery said, it should be in the ambient-experimental section but i like your perfect job !
Thanks - I've followed through and this piece is not longer classed as "trance." I'm encouraged by the reception and thinking that a lot of people do actually appreciate something different. Sure makes me want to make more music! I'll be checking your tracks out presently.
Thanks alex77bmf - The revision I'm working on right now is a changing the ending quite radically. I'm experimenting with slowing down the tempo of the Boduberu percussion track and making it into Simian's final defiance - chasing the storm away. We'll see how it turns out.
Though I'm new to this realm, I've been making music for nearly 15 years now and 'genre' has always been a problem for me. Under the fuzzy definitions I see here, I'm beginning to thing my stuff (all of it) belongs in Ambient. It's weird but pretty groovy, hip wiggling music. Maybe it's Top 40 Pop!
Cool track title...I can see you like the percussion side of the ledger...which is great..nice spread of frequencies..no smothering or overshadowing....love those deep woop woops!..very good work!..cheers planet :)
Hey n0mad..my first visit..howdy there...I really like the almost organic texture of this piece,it's got a subtly shifting metronomic appeal..very mesmerising and evolving like a slow flowing musical extrusion...plenty of shades within this and very enjoyable..cool gear!..cheers planet :)
planetjazzbass of crazy, crazy Melbourne - the honor's all mine! I must admit to 'lurking' your music already and amassing some of your loops for potential use. This was my first 'real' piece using Jungulator tech and I'm now bloody dissatisfied with it! The potential is all there, but I can HEAR where there's room for much improvement. Cheers on the listen and review!
blackryan - thanks! Honestly, I'm not satisfied with it yet, but I've gotten some feedback that's really useful and will be redoing this one. The biggest surprise to me is how much people like it! And I have checked out Ozric Tentacles - nice trippy sounds underlying some driving rhythms! Thanks for pointing me in that direction. ps- I really like your avatar - is there personal significance here?
Great Tune! i love the feel your getting with it! Sounds like it could be opened up into a bit of DnB...with some distorted guitar doing a riff and a fast beat in the back. i like it a lot buddy!
Thanks Chris - yeah I've been wondering about the possibility of a remix with this, too. I think I'll keep pushing forward with experimentation and new material for now. Too much fun!
I have listened to a few of your tracks now. At fist I did'nt get it and did'nt know how to review it. The more I've listened I've realised that u r good - not really my cup of tea musically but it is good. Reminds me of Ozric Tentacles (if u know them ) or similar ilk. Crazy psychedelix!!!
Thanks, and I think I know what you mean. With this technology I'm just playing with stuff that sounds good to me, and ultimately it sounds like - well, me. Strange. I've never heard of Ozric but my curiosity's peaked.

I think style .. you are cool!
listening.. i think you have a great.. rhythm ... i really like this!
it's got great elements of percussion softly kissing the underside of harmony!
you do have a lot of headroom, and i think this should be mastered.
fantastic looping! fantastic track! loving the offbeat/on beat control of this... such contrast of ... feelings!
great track!
