Man, this is too fun! Luv it. Sometimes on looperman I've heard good songs with the sound needing work or great sound but not really a song I enjoy. This is laid out perfectly.

Enjoyed this a lot. Good job guys.

What a feelgood track Scott...that bass heaveh somewhere at the middle is already now classical...:-)
Fantastic voice, surrealistic atmosphere...is it pop? :-)

Hats off, Danke

Hey, thanks allot, Danke. I really like this one. If I had of listened to the pella, I never thought it would make a good song, But Franco has a knack for hearing these things.

Ya know, I had trouble picking out a genre for this. What do you think it is?

Thanks allot, BigPete. Sorry for not replying sooner. We've been having some problems with the email associated with this account.

Love Heavy Weather! I still have the LP. You reminded me, I did a cover of a track from "Heavy Weather" but for some reason forgot to post it, so just did, and you can check it out on my 'covers' page, if you like: http://www.looperman.com/tracks/detail/159326. I also plan to do "Birdland" one day!

Outstanding Scott. I played trombone in a jazz group for a while a long time ago, and I have to say this brought back great memories for me. Extremely well done, with some really nice guitar work.

If anyone believes playing fusion is easy, all they need to do is give it a go and they will find out it takes a huge amount of talent, and you and Franco are gifted with immense amounts of talent.

Definitely one of the best jazz/fusion tracks I've heard in a long, long time. Well done gents. I hope all is well.

Wow, Bear...Your high praise really humbles me, especially coming from you and knowing of YOUR talent!

As stated in the comments, I almost gave up on this one, but it was too good to just let die unfinished. I do love fusion mainly for the challenge. I'm glad I brought it back for another go.

Thanks much for your listen and comment. Franco and I really appreciate it.

I can hear the Weather Report especially the intro, plus I love Jaco P!! Fusion Jazz certainly isn't an easy genre to play or just wrap your head around but I must say this is pretty cool indeed. Loved the muted horn, I used to have a horn player in my old band and I used to love when he would use the plumbers helper to mute the trumpet, lol.

Way to go guys, sounds awesome, great composition.

Thanks allot, Wayne. Glad you like it. Right-O...Jaco is the man! I love the story when Jaco went up to Joe Zawinul after a Weather Report concert and told him he was the greatest bass player in the world and Joe told him to get the fu#k outta here! He hired him shortly afterwards. He had some balls, but could back it up.

Wow! I loved this one!
Wonderful!
You are right, there are a lot of Weather Report atmospheres in this track. Then, around 3:10 we have a Miles Davis section (Tutu era).
Respect guys!
Listening to this is pure joy!
Ciao, Domenico

PS: the final drum solo is very tasty, maybe not the best way to end a track, but I enjoyed every bit of it :-)
ScottFranco
ScottFranco replied 4th Jun 2014 - 11 years ago
Thanks allot, Domenico. Glad you like it. Funny, I thought about Miles when I worked on the trumpet section, but didn't think anyone would reference it. The drums at the end is a technique I've heard on a few fusion tracks where you fade all the instruments out except one. Than fade that one out. I've used it with other instruments, but never with drums. It just seemed to feel right for that atmosphere.

Cheers,
Scott

Always loved this song and this band. I like your version, a bit more to the jazz/lounge side of things but I love lounge music. I thought about singing and found the lyrics and tried to sing along but there are too many high spots I can't hit. They had great singing and harmonies on their songs. I hope you find someone, I'm sure someone will jump on this.

Nice one!

Thanks allot, Wayne. Nothing beats the original, so didn't want to try to duplicate it, so with the help of Franco, it turned out a bit jazzier.

Sorry it's a bit high for you. Would have liked to have you aboard. Usually vocal requests are unsuccessful, so doubt we'll get any takers.

I love the "italian-pseudo-rap" section!
Franco should do this more often: deep and interesting voice.
And I like how it has been recorded: very warm.
Ciao, Domenico

PS: I haven't written anything about the guitar and drums, just to avoid repeating myself... excellent as usual!
Keep "rocking" guys! (or should I say "funking"?)
ScottFranco
ScottFranco replied 6th May 2014 - 11 years ago
Thanks, Domenico. Yeah, I really dug Franco's raps, too. Originally, he didn't have this and I said he needed more vocals and he asked me to write some in English, so I did and when he sent them back to me, the rapping was added and it blew me away!

Scott

Man...I must say again you two guys make an excellent tandem. Great job on this piece. And Scott I don't believe the pella I used is the same as this one. The lyrics are totally different from the one I have downloaded. I think she just have two with similar titles. Peace guys! Dan

Thanks allot, Dan. Yeah, I'm quite fortunate to have such a great collaborator! He brings out a musical style in me I didn't realize I had.

I wasn't sure about the pella. I knew it was the same person, but didn't really recognize it.

I've noticed a few clitches in Looperman lately. I'm pretty sure the track is ok, since it plays fine for me and others who have commented. Sometimes when something doesn't work on one browser, it will with another. I've noticed this on other computers I have using a router. Also, there might be allot of traffic on Looperman which may cause it. Maybe try again later.

Sorry,
Scott

Thanks for the reply. This didn't quite make sense: "we have anywhere between 15 to 25 hours into our tracks between the two of us".

I guess you're saying you have 15-20 hours of material that you've recorded together? OK but I'm not sure what that has to do with any issues that I point out as being errors (as I see them).

I can only call it as I see/hear it. I don't know if someone wanted something to be in there or is actually grateful for me pointing out something they hadn't noticed or were in denial about (I'm often like that with problems in my own tracks).

"When we post them, they are finished and we feel they rarely need editing or correcting in our opinion."

OK, well I guess you're saying there's no point in me pointing out things that could be fixed as you will automatically disagree. I upload tracks in as good a state as I think I can get them. And then I sometimes go back and hear the problems and generally then fix them. People are free to point them out to me. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't.

I posted a new track last night which I love but now think the end section should be longer and some other bits don't quite sound right. I haven't put that in my track description as it's already quite long enough.

I've actually been a bit disappointed in the past that people haven't pointed out errors or how to improve my tracks as they just gave me high praise so perhaps I thought my work was done (when it really, really wasn't). I had to work out how to make those improvements for myself so just as well I didn't settle for people thinking a track was great.

"I can listen to anyone's track and hear things I would change if I was doing it"

Yes - that's partly how I've learned to make music. By listening to things and getting ideas from how I would do things differently.

Anyway, it's your music so do as you please with it but maybe I won't give any critique on your tracks in future. So, either a praise-filled review or no review at all.
ScottFranco
ScottFranco replied 23rd Apr 2014 - 11 years ago
SN, the main reason for my last reply was, my collaborator emailed me after he read your first comment and he felt it was a bit condescending. I had also felt that way and also about other comments you had written in the past, but never replied back. Since I knew he felt as I did, I just thought I'd reply and let you know our feelings. I know you mean well and your comments are not given with malicious intent, but some of us may be a little sensitive about our stuff. My policy is, if I like someone's track, I like to let them know and never try to help unless they ask for it in their description. You may be a better musician and producer than we are, but when you give us a list of the things we need to correct, it's a little off-putting and condescending. Again, I know you mean well!

I hope this reply is more clear. We're all friends, here.

Cheers,
Scott

Funk/jazz style always hooks me one or another way. This time we hear more eclectic mixture which is nice. Instruments are well balanced and what I particulary like about the vocals is the Italian accent...haha...Buon lavoro ragazzi!

ScottFranco replied 23rd Apr 2014 - 11 years ago
Hey Orlando,

Glad you like it and took time to comment. I agree, I like the accent. Actually, Franco had a very small vocal part when he sent the track to me and I encouraged him to do more so I wrote a few lines for him and when he sent it back there was the cool Italian rap which I really dug. I hope to do more of this in the future.

Some complex, alternative stuff here that isn't easily categorisable.

Before I get onto that, you've got to fix the guitar issues early on.

0:12 and 0:16 pops/edits really have to be removed. It's a good part. Have you spliced together a couple of takes but forgotten to crossfade the parts?

Also, on 0:54, what's that high buzzing noise? It comes in later too and sounds like an error.

Anyway, errors aside, I like the timbale sort of drums fills eg on 1:49.

5:08 cool big, exploding noise that is a bit of a surprise. What was that?

There are also some problems at certain times with the kick drum being too loud. I can give details if you want.

Otherwise, it's some interesting stuff that sounds like it was fun to make.
ScottFranco
ScottFranco replied 23rd Apr 2014 - 11 years ago
We appreciate your comments, SN, but please keep in mind, we have anywhere between 15 to 25 hours into our tracks between the two of us(or more depending on the number of musicians.) We have scrutinized the tracks many times over and corrected any issues we feel needs correcting. When we post them, they are finished and we feel they rarely need editing or correcting in our opinion. Also, all tracks will sound markedly different on whatever system it's listened on. I can listen to anyone's track and hear things I would change if I was doing it, but know it's that artist's interpretation and that's the way HE wants it to sound.

That explosion sound at the end is just an FX loop I had for a nice impact to finish things off.

Scott

Well i'm no expert on funk but this is pretty darn cool.
Love the percusssive section, the keyboards, the bassline and the guitar.
It's got a kind of Carlos Santana vibe to it and goes very well with the sunny weather that we're having at the moment (Well, we were at least anyway)
Dig this track.
One suggestion, You should drop out some of the low end on the reverb you used on the vocals. It would add a bit more clarity.
Other than that it's a hot track.
