very light, airy feel and groove - truly chill. nice break about 2 minute in when you give the beat a rest. lets the music (and listener) catch their breath. good luck with your collab. should be interesting. regards - midisparks
beautiful sound textures, and mixing. you are always bringing in a little something new to hold interest. when the voice comes in it is very magical. congrats on your work! keep going! look forward to hearing more. midisparks
beautiful sustained writing. have not heard such a nice use of oboe sound with strings in a long time. vocal sounds great. like your string writing a lot. not just sustained background, but punctuating throughout in a very idiomatic way. very dramatic, nice work. criticism? okay - keep playing with the mix for additional interest (but really that is just icing on the cake!) this is great work. regards. Dan
i was definitely feeling the movie! wonderful writing. nice sense of strings articulation - this is not something so easy to achieve. subtle use of tympani. good brass blends. and wow! that drums section - very effective - what a change up. hats off to you. look forward to exploring more of your work. regards.
it was a very smooth transition into the slow section. all of sudden I was there! good job. the midi samples for orchestra have really evolved over the years and you might explore, for example, ARIA sounds. keep it up. beautiful work!
Thank you for your comments!! I appreciate it! It got me thinking....so I looked into it and I should be receiving Garritan Personal Orchestra 4 next week...so, I'll see if I can improve on it. I've already done some rearranging of it, just a little, in preparation. Thanks again!
that break where you just have the drums beating away and then the basses come in, just the basses with the drums, that was real effective for me. the ears perked up. nice writing. nice dramatic feel. keep going!
midisparks, thank you for listening and even more so for commenting, glad you liked the track!
Keep on making great, versatile loops & tracks like the ones I've just heard right now :)
a beautiful epic feel that really holds me. beautiful choices of instruments and mixing. sometimes I look for a contrasting section where the orchestration thins out and things are subdued for a bit, then everything comes back strong. just some thoughts for the future. beautiful writing. congrats!
beautiful voicings and a beautiful feel to this one. i'm wondering if the mix might benefit from a little EQ? keep it comin! look forward to hearing more.
very mellow, nice changes (not that I could analyze them). I kind of hearin the zappa in melody's open intervals for example. nice mix. look forward to listening to more. new fan on left side of pond
i am blown away by the smoothness of the transitions, the imagination of the various sections, always holding something constant and changing up something also. it's a great talent. keep it up.
someday I will be able to speak to the technical aspects of a work like this that make it phenomenal. for now I speak about musicality, about form, about sound.
the beginning of this puppy takes me into outer space and it is a perfect candidate for pairing with some space art (a conversation for another day). the sounds are rich - good sound choices create rich overtones - that's what seems to be working here. the drum groove is a stunning entrance! then the elimination of the drone and the drum becomes principal groove works great. then new sounds of piano and strings was beautiful (and brief elimination of drum groove to emphasize strings was perfect - what I was getting at in comment to "VIRUS". okay - criticism - sorry I'm not savvy enough - could just suggest working towards definite endings sometimes instead of fadeouts. requires a certain kind of commitment but can make a powerful final statement that the fadeout can't. peace from left side
okay here goes. the novice speaks. awesome sounds in a sophisticated mix. the panning is very cool. intro of new elements over grooves over time kept me hooked. transitions between grooves seamless. the very end grabbed me with its retro back to an earlier section. okay - gotta think of a criticism - i always think in these semi-trance comps one could stick in little "breaks" - completely out of the groove - that shock. there was one moment when a groove went on for a few seconds too much w/out some variance and I tuned out. but otherwise fully hooked! left pond out
it took me in pretty deep. i suppose the groove very well might suggest the mindset of the soon-to-be suicide. a coolness, a detachment, a resignation.
technically awesome work.
hope the film is coming together and there are bucks $$$!!
peace.
Hi Midi..thanks mate, yeah lots of introspective flash backs interspersed with his planned course of action in a very mobile/static sequence...money of course is always welcome! lol..cheers mate :)
don't know anything about trap style. the brass sounds are warm and well mixed IMHO. i think all your instruments sounds are warm and well mixed actually, except the percussion. the percussion sounds seem outside the mix and to front and center somehow. maybe this is the point - in which case you are successful.
i enjoy your writing a lot. i also use the Garritan sounds. your flute sound was really nice. no matter how good the core samples, you've got to mix these sounds and know what the acoustic instruments are about to make it work. it is evident you know the instruments. i was really taken into some long, wordless part of an epic movie, where the music carries us through some important progression of events - you know - like Rocky doing all his intense training for the big fight! i also like your transitions between sections, and the great variety between your sections. all the best.

oh yeah - PLEASE tell me how to make a cymbal "swoosh" like you do.
Hi midisparks,Thanks for the nice feedback on A Knight to remember, Just getting into using Garritan and finding it very
nice to use. The Whoooshy cymbal is made, using a reverse cymbal loop, with loads of reverb added. The only loops used on the track are drums and cymbals, the rest is me playing the instruments track by track using garritan. The mixing is where I like to play about and can take quite a long time before I am happy.
Have a nice New Year.

i don't know what dubstep is. but you set up several very interesting grooves - any one of which I could have hung with longer in your track. i'm one that advocates breaking things up, varying things - which you do great. in this tho - I really wanted to hang longer with the various grooves.
you have a great technique. your work is great. congrats.
I agree... i've been trying to get away from repetetiveness because dubstep is a new genre for me and it's not too repetetive. Thank you for your feedback, it really means a lot.
your music is pretty hypnotizing. i can see myself in an underground club, seriously impaired, just sort of swaying for hours. your mix and your choice of sounds, how you break the groove up now and then, this is all the way I like it.
pretty compelling stuff, hypnotizing, might work well to start a little riot in a punk club. there is this artist I know who paints some pretty dark stuff. you might want to check her out. here is the link. she is actually a very sharp lady - but yeah, some of her stuff is dark.
nice use of brass. u sure know your way around drum machine. very interesting use of drum machine. nice build dramatically. very effective, clear mix. nice job!
i like the orchestration. harp is very effective if I am hearing right. i like the repetition - it takes me to a different world. sometimes repetition works, sometimes not - it does here. you vary just at the right moments to break it up. chorus very effective. great cinematic feel. look forward to checkin out new stuff of yorus. regards, midisparks
hey. stumbled across your application of the "spacey" loop. when you crank it up initially with the drums and go into a guitar solo is exactly what I am looking for to extend the track I created from this loop. have a listen to my track "galactic" encounter. maybe there is a colab here.
