great energy. all the voices and sounds mixed crystal clear. as another incarnation sometime, i would enjoy hearing this one with the sounds spread out, murkier, and with gentler velocities. it would be the "dreamier" mix! nice work. enjoy your stuff.
very creative work. the stuttering (from "mute" effect I guess) at beginning creates some great tension. nice variety of things going on but it all fits well. all IMHO of course.
nice pick me up for my Monday morning! great song! i hear a crazy, subtle "edge" on the vocal that sounds very cool. am I imagining? or some bit of effect there? guitar work is tasty! criticism? exploring dynamics contrasts is always interesting to shade a work. anyway - awesome track! regards, Dan
beautiful mix, dazz. very interesting percussion sounds, the "wash" of suspended cymbal, toms or maybe tympani even? insistent bass line drives it well. thoroughly enjoyed. - Dan
beautiful mix. love the guitar playing. big Santana fan as well so that always helps! thanks for the trivia background as well. that is appreciated! regards, - Dan
you take your time developing each section - allow the listener to sit with something for a while and you develop everything in a smooth well-integrated way. and you hold a mood, even as you add colors, variation. some of the reasons I like your stuff. could go on and on, not even mentioning strong technical level. criticism? maybe there is a more subtle way to transition from intro section to main section. all the respect in the world for your work. cheers. Dan
Hey Dan..thanks for the great review man!..I know exactly what you mean about transitioning from the lead in,sometimes when marrying up intros to the main I'm thinking too much on the bar and maybe not enough on the actual segue..next time I'll be very aware of this phase and attempt to be more seamless.
thanks again..cheers Dave :)
definitely that old school rockin that I loved from back in the day. I like the hard groove and also how you chill it out a little in a second section. strings (I think) is very nice also. nice work.
It is fantastic. Very challenging and interesting to listen to . I don't write in this genre, obviously, and I would not have a clue how, and really can't comment intelligently on any technical level. You are focused on a whole different set of techniques, skills, etc., with this electronica, and you seem to have a handle on it. Keep pushing the envelope and keep up the great work, Dan
i know it is something of a backdoor comp when folks say it sounds like . . . such and such. but I think about wether report, and pat methene, and tower of power, . . . i never had the time to listen enough to those groups cause I was practicing the dam oboe for orchestra jobs!(so I don't know how accurate the comp is) but i am grateful you are writing this stuff now so I can enjoy it! peace.
man - this one is just to sit back, and relax, and unwind with for the duration. not for the internet (quick soundbite) generation though! the playing is superb. each section following chorus had some special interest and color. beautiful stuff.
dam! i've probably said this already but there is a real art to keeping a groove driving for a good long time and working it, embellishing around, coloring it, and maintaining interest - more than that - really developing some insane narrative. you do that man! forgot to mention from "satellites" because it happens here also - when the voice comes in it is startling but fits perfectly and really adds. as far as critique goes, well - . . . was thinking there could be additional drama wrung out from a wider dynamic range - changing up with louds and softs - but really - I am stretching to come up with my "constructive feedback" comment. your writing is really great. congrats!
finally got around to downloading "without any reason at all" this is the first track I listened to. what a head trip. by the end was totally given over to the groove. cool stuff.
your orchestration is fantastic. I think the drums create a very strong foundation in this piece and sound great. i like when you bring in the flute sounds (bottleblow?, shakuhachi?) - very effective new color. as usual you create a strong dramatic feeling in your music Marko. it is really great. at the beginning the strings seem somehow "outside" of the rest of the mix. I have been experimenting with "audio busses" as a way to bring tracks into the same "room" and share same reverb. great work!
the way you recombine, reassign the lines keeps up the interest, and you create a very unique, introspective mood. again - very trance inducing. might explore different reverb options on this one. i guess piano may not be your final instrument choice, but the piano might sound nice in a "hall" or "stage"
nice surprising finish - after the repeating motive throughout is effective to depart altogether at the end with something new. nice trance inducing work! keep polishing sounds and blends I would say.
it's great to hear this solid (and very) mellow masterful playing. really takes me back to a feel and a feeling from the day. like the mix, the introduction of the flute sound (bottleblow?) was perfect. thanks.
Thanks for listening and taking the trouble to review this. It took me a few takes, and some editing to get the guitars to that level. Funny thing is, that the original track from '82 (which I couldn't use) had stronger playing. The sound quality on this is better though, and the mix is warmer
