Good track overall for work in progress. Quick suggestion, if you put your guitar licks after the vocals in a call response patterns (the upper register licks) they will have more presence in the mix and make more of a statement.
Yeah, you are totally right. I had the track as an instrumental with pretty much one long solo in it from beginning to end. I chopped pieces off that were sub-par but didn't think about placement against the vocals which I just added. I will go in and see about moving them to better places. Thanks for the feedback and listen.
Nice, rich sound choices. The mix is very bright and clear. I like the LFO stuff going on in the background gluing it all together. Vocals is a nice touch.
I like the quasi dubstep at 2:00 and 5:00
I was expecting some pads or something to pop up in the background, but the high pitched blips did nicely.
I like the changes, this kind of music is easy to make too repetitive.
listened to this while getting ready for work, woke me right up, better than coffee :)
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I know what you mean about the repetitiveness of this type of music especially as this track is fairly long as well. Cheers.
Thanks for the feedback. Your suggestion about committing groups of tracks to an audio file is very sound. I know I should be doing that, even with projects that have much fewer tracks. I've always avoided that because I was afraid that I would later decide that I needed to adjust the midi or effects on a track and wouldn't be able to do that. But, thinking about your comment I realized that was stupid on my part. I can just make a copy of the project and then print the tracks, as you suggested. Or, in Logic, I can just make a new "alternative" of the project, so if I do need to make a change, I can just go back to one of the earlier alternatives where the tracks were in their original form. I resolve to follow your suggestion in the future. Plus, I really need to build a good mixing template and stick with it. This project taught me that my "housekeeping" practices really need improvement. :)
Good ideas here.
Adding a hint of reverb/delay to each track would fill in some of the space (just enough to where it is audible when you select/deselect bypass).
Also, getting the volumes of each track to around -6 to -12 Db, and making sure the master does not red line will help with the volume. Lastly, you can add a hint of distortion, saturation to the tracks (even the vocals), to brighten them up and give the mix more presence.
I'm not expert, just food for though since you are fairly new :)
Nice mix. I like all the little drum breaks and subtle changes (like the one at 2:00).
An occasional vocal sweetener (maybe a little delay on a word or two with the highs filtered a little) would be an appropriate touch, but that's just a suggestion.
I would say Pop is what happens when you borrow from the "cool" (currently trap beats and EDM) after the techniques get luke-warm, palatable and relatable to the average listener (an opinion of course, and a very gray area).
I Don't think you did that here, more an interesting use of vocals with an ethereal backdrop. I've given up on classifications, but if I had to chose, I'll take SemiPsychodelicChillout any day :)
BTW, my work has slowed and I finally have time. I'm down for a jam, the funkier the better. I can put together something like Funky Giblets or you may already have something. Let me know, ttyl.
I thought I saw you the other day on LM.
I wasn't sure tho (I could have been trippin;).
It's great to see you back.
I recently heard some "Metal" that caught my ear (Julioooliveira & SuicideJ). I was actually working on a track that could possibly be considered "Metal Lite". Now that I see "Metal" is accepted, perhaps even encouraged. I want to go "Whole Hog" and make sh#t bleed...LOL
What do you think? Do I need therapy?
Or I'm down for a Funk track.
Thanks for your listen. Let me know how when and where and I'm on it.
Here you go, remixed with solo. Bass and kick were a little hard to differentiate in the original so I replaced them. I kept the key, tempo, and original motif... enjoy.
Nice high-hat choice, you managed to get the "cricket" sound out of the trap beat, which is a nice change. Nothing wrong with using a ride also, or in place of the high-hat, with a hint of distortion and a bit of wavy pitch shift.
Yeah, nice use of brass. I Like the wet surfer reverb on the rim click. Telephone was perfect randomly in the guitar solo, also liked the dark scale use around the same time.
Nice work, fun to listen to. Well mixed. Well done.
Definitively cinematic quality, shakers are a bit hard on the ear, but appropriate given the context. Mumbles and hums are very Aphex Twin. Liking the music box revisits, nice work, great synth sound.
That was the part I wasn't 100% on. But since this track was made with all recycled synths and sounds that I made for other tracks, except the kid's vocal samples, I wasn't too terribly worried about it. It would have been different if I had started this thing from bare bones.
Well produced, maybe a little filter sweep on the descending keyboard part, to get some of the highs out of it. Definitely murder mystery montage. Nice work.
If you find an individual track or instrument that is not loud enough in the mix, even when you turn it up, try saturation (either a hint of distortion, loudness, or reverb, by order of impact of the effect). Just a dab will do.
You will find that the sound pops in the mix. Then you can keep the level between -6 and -12 DB (roughly) and still hear it, and your track will mix to -3 to 0 DB (roughly, depending on the number of individual tracks), which means it won't clip (give the wav a flat-top). Then you don't need compression on the master when rendering the final track.
Once again, I am no expert. These are just things that I do in my mixes that I have learned from experience and tutorials.
Good ideas here. If you level your individual tracks to about -6 to -12 DB you will get a better balance when you render it.
I noticed that the ideas were good, but the levels were a bit quiet on some things. It is better to have a good sounding quiet track that a clipping loud one, but a bit of a boost on the quieter parts wouldn't hurt.
I'm no expert, just food for thought, good track overall.

If you want less tracks, try printing a few at once to a wav/flac file to help stay organized and safe space/processing power.
Once again though, sounds very nice.
