I like this kit: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Pintech-Professional-Series-Road-Pro-Kit-J07725-i3658982.gc .
The snare is the one I have in chrome. If you do get a kit, don't get anything unless it has the mesh heads. There is actually more rebound than real drums, especially on the toms.

Cheers,
Scott

Looks nice. A bit beyond my budget at the moment. Is the pintech snare louder to play on than a normal "pad"?

Hey Eric,

I got the Alesis for recording and practice purposes. I can't play my acoustic kit because of the volume. Yeah, the feel is different, but I bought a Pintech snare with mesh type head. It's really fast and I even use it for practicing my rudiments. My Alesis kit has real heads, but they are still not as responsive as real drums. Roland makes a good kit, but they are a few thousand. The mesh heads are a must. Pintech has some good kits with mesh heads and a bit less than Roland.

Cheers,
Scott

Thanks for the advice, Scott. I think I've heard of Pintech. Will need to see if there's any place here in Ottawa where I can check them out. That Roland kit I played on definitely did not have mesh heads.

I thought your trons sounded familiar. I love mine and use it when I can and want that classic prog sound. Glad I was able to turn you on to it.

As far as drums go, there are some really good drum VSTs on the market. I use them with my Alesis kit. These sound better than actually trying to program them. They are actually samples from real drummers. I have actually used them to learn new beats. I slow them down to start and practice them till I get it good enough to use.

If I can help with anything else, let me know.

Cheers,
Scott

I have Superior Drummer and it looks like it would work really well with an electronic kit. Right now, I just use it for the preset midi sequences it comes with. I'm curious. Why did you get the Alesis kit. I played on a Roland kit for a day or two last year. Rented an apartment in Edinburgh and it came with a Roland kit set up in the living room. Lots of fun, but my drumming chops have slipped so badly that I really wasn't very good. Also, playing on the pads really felt funny. Like having a whole kit of practice pads. Bounce simply wasn't the same. it was the cheapest Roland kit available, so that might have been part of the reason.

Whoa, Eric...You got it happening here, my friend, and I'm not just saying that to get a high placement for my latest track, but I digress!

This is really Beatle-esque in the beginning, IMHO! Love the vocals and harp. As I listen, I'm thinking I may have to have this for further and future enjoyment.

I'm curious...Some of your flute and string passages sound like a mellotron. What VST are you using for these? I actually just posted a track using my Pro M-Tron VST. Do you have this?

Again, nicely done. I look forward to the third inception.

Cheers,
Scott

EricMilligan replied 24th Sep 2014 - 11 years ago
Well, Scott. Got the idea of using a Mellotron VST from you actually! Yes, I am using the same VST as you. Turns out I apparently have some mellotron patches in one of my sampler VSTs, but the M-Tron Pro worked really well. I don't have all the added extras, but I have enough to do what I need to.

That drum intro that opens the second section was a bit of a challenge for me, by the way. Thought of you as I was doing it. I don't have any trigger pads (or real drums for that matter) and I find it awkward to program real sounding drums on my keyboard. Took a lot of fiddling (and effects) to get that intro to sound halfway decent. But, I kept at it because I wanted to try to live up to the standard that you set with your tracks. Kind of embarrassing that it was so difficult for me, frankly. Next time will be easier. Right?

Always loved Pachelbel's Canon. I did a version a few years back. I believe it was originally done in 'D' if not mistaken. Curious about the key change.

on Crystal City by WARRIORDANIKA
Wow, Danika, This is a really cool track! Scott did a great job with this, as did you. Your voice sounds good, but I'm not a guy who likes allot of reverb. I know this style lends itself to that, but would have liked to understand the lyrics a bit better. Also like your lyric writing skill. I think when you get more familiar with your DAW program and your mixing skills improve, you will be a real powerhouse!

Good job!

Cheers,

Cool track, LK! Good job.

I think you're ok with the 'chill out' genre, since the selections they offer is kind of lame. I think back in the day, this would probably considered 'New Age."

None the less, a very pleasant sounding track.

on Who Cares by terrancet
Terrancet,

I wanted to chime back in and commend you on your reply to my comment. After thinking about it, I wish I had kept my thought to myself. My original intent was to give you encouragement on your first post, but your track just upset me and I was too quick on the trigger with a comment. I was thinking you would have a few choice words for me, but instead, you offered a very mature reply to my misspoken words.

Music has been a positive force in my life since I was 10 years old. After graduating from the Univ. of W. Fla., I was offered a position in the Pensacola Symphony Orch. and an on-call studio musician at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Through all my years, I never encountered any aspect where music was suppose to be offensive, so I guess you taught me something. Yes, times can get hard in life, but I would rather accentuate the positive and use music to escape the bad times, rather than dwell on them. I guess I'm one of those guys who want to hear another love song or songs about the good things in life!

Anyway, good luck in your endeavors, and I do hope to hear something from you that is a bit more positive.

Cheers,
Scott

Scott I was no where near angry. I felt like your comment will help me mold myself into the person i want to be one day. Again i love the truth even if it hurts sometimes. Pensacola is very close to me. I live in Central Florida. Good only feels good when bad comes around. I am not saying that i dwell in it, i am saying that reminding yourself of hard times will foster better productivity in the larger run. Hip Hop has helped me voice my words to others that i would be scared/ashamed to do in person. Thanks for the encouragement, i really do appreciate it.

Dear Terrancet,

I don't usually click on the hip hop tracks, but I read your forum thread about how to get people to respond to your tracks, so I thought I'd check out your page and respond.

I know the 'N' word and the 'F' word is common in your style of music, but I was hoping I could hear something that would change my mind about hip hop. Unfortunately, It didn't! Let's be honest...Do you actually play an instrument? I'd like to hear anything you do that is not vulgar? In my world, music is suppose to be enjoyable. Why isn't it in your world? I realize, my reply is probably considered 'racist' but, hey, you asked for comments.

Sorry, but your track really turned me off.

I know...Who gives a fuck!

Scott
terrancet
terrancet replied 18th Jul 2014 - 11 years ago
No, your comment is far from racism. I love the truthfulness. Hip Hop is meant to be offensive (my choice of words are not needed, i know). I dont want to feed you the history of Hip Hop but if you are surround with a world immerse in oppression, depression and poverty you would not find a positive way to really get out your feelings. And that is why I think Hip Hop is offensive.

And No i do not play an instrument.

But I have tracks I believe are not offensive but who would love hear another love song or another track talking about the best in their life. They get enough of that in Mainstream Hip Hop. But I hope one day you understand it that is more than being offensive.

Thanks for your input.
