(Sorry RG - I posted this in the wrong place!)

Nice fusion here - a definite reggaeton sensibility with distinctly Latin American vocal tradition combined. I wish my Spanish was better (French sounds soooo different, and I've never been able to switch) but if this is an "unrequited love song," (as I suspect for the bits I understand) then it's GREAT. The emotional feeling here is really INTENSE and reminds me totally of getting over someone that never felt it in return. Anyway, really like it. Thanks.

Silly and poignant. Good mix, though I'm having the same distortion problem (it's a bit distracting). I love the message with the Reggaeton rhythm.

Nice mashup. The pads in conjunction with Bjork is really outrageous. Nice one - keep 'em coming!

Arrg! It's those elusive commercial flavors! How do you do that, my man? This really does have an `80's taste to it, though not in the 'static' sense. In other words, the guitars simultaneously stand 'outside' of a period piece while invoking the aforementioned decade. Bloody hell, my East Coast Brother - any tighter I don't think a razor could fit any cracks. Wow. (hey - you've gone purple, too! Must be the brother thang.)

on Why Try? by gargoyle
The pad in this is really nice. Makes the track "musical" instead of a noize experiment, too (imho). Slightly Industrial in approach, but certainly could pass as Ambient as well (and would probably attract more listeners). "Metabolic Music." Nice one.

Thanks for the input n0mad23. Just for the hell of it I added it under the "Ambient" area for now....

Got my vote for the category - what else to say? I'm listening to this 12 miles east of Aberdeen and it feels like indigenous music to me!

Yeah, Dylan and Young are good analogies here - folk sensibility and compulsion in delivering an important narrative. I'm still waiting for Pacific Northwest Folk Punk to arise. Dude, sonically this is such an evolution of SubPop! It's been a long time since I thought about The Screaming Trees, but after listening to this I'm going to dig out my vinyl again! Thanks!

on Shade - Nowhere near by djshade
djshade - Interesting and enjoyable track here. Very chilled trance with smooth movement between rhythm and keys. Something I could dance or veg to with equal ease.

on White Water Reefer (All Genre Comp.) by MEDICALMARIJUANA
BigPete's comparison to Zappa seems really appropriate here - one of your "unknown" listeners here was me, so I'm struck this second time around how I'm still surprised with every transition you take. Really good choices! Surprising, and even more surprising is how appropriate each one is in relation to what comes before and after. Nice one.

The percussive use of the organ is really nice, especially in conjunction with the speed of the rhythm (nice stick sounds-btw). I like it as an instrumental piece, and after reading victormusic01x's comment I'm really thinking a vocal track would make this into something else. I really like this one!

Nice to see someone else that favors the percussion side of the register. I really like the world feel that comes through here, specifically because of your percussion choice. Your vocals? Very nice - got a kind of fusion of world and ambient happening successfully throughout. Good mix, and nothing is obscured by other sounds. Nice one, mate!

Thanks for posting this. I've been really curious what the original (unextended) versions sounds like. It really does have a considerably different "flavor", this one.

on Roti Roll by DanWilson
To me this has an Eastern feel, but one that's been filtered through East Africa on its way south. Though it's got a very Western, electronic sensibility to the rhythm, there's definitely other influences coming from the foundation. Especially the marimba or xylophone that slides in and out of it. Personally, I think it makes this even better as a track. I really like how the sax and wicked bass turn it into its own unique piece - very original without being 'weird.' Nice one, I have to check out more of your work.

on Time to bang This Club Hard mixtape preview by victormusic01x
How did this one slip by me? I'd like to use quotations and cite planetjazzbass's review for this track. But what I really dig about it is that its insurrectionist sensibility. Subversive music for the masses. Something rather Africanesque about that...

on Words are Stronger Than The Sword ft vizun ruff by victormusic01x
`T'is funky funk for true! What I really dig though is the interpretation. Guitar funk reworked into a 21st century context, recognizable but evolved dynamically. I love the panning you've done here - it's full on without losing itself to the gimmick of the technology. Your use of percussion here is truly brilliant - again full on without getting lost in itself - fabulous transitions just where they need to be with the right moments of minimal sound - not quite pregnant pauses but absolutely perfect in the context of this track. Damn...you're talented! I feel totally privileged that I got to be 2nd to review this.

I'm not sure I agree there's too much percussion, though if it were my track I might try to separate the drums a bit with different levels. This one grooves and definitely makes you want to dance which is always a good sign with music. Cheers!

I came in expecting a mashup, too. I really like the minimalism that this track achieves - without being too minimal (if that makes sense). The electronic glitch sounds floating throughout keep it really interesting, and you've got a good sense of rhythm. Really well done.

Yeah, the Tao of Moment(s). The simplicity here is really difficult to achieve, and you've hit it perfectly. This has such beautiful sounds and you really have captured That Moment. Sweet.

It really struck me similarly to chrilsh. This could easily be the intro soundtrack to an indie film. I like how it does transport you off into the story/sound through its ambient quality. Really good sense of transitions here, too. I look forward to hearing more of your work. Cheers.

I would love to be included in a movie soundtrack some day, that would be nuts. That is a dream as well as singing in front of an orchestra, in London!

Actually, I have a different twist on the percussion here. It wouldn't have worked nearly as well if it hadn't been a step behind the guitar, and would have left the track feeling more "overdubbed" than it does. If I was remastering it, the perc levels could use some tweaking (maybe raised in places?), other than that I think it's a fabulous piece of work. Cheers.

Brutal honesty? All right - the bass is wicked and real. The reverb guitar in conjunction with the sax is brilliant, and the dialog you've got going on between the instruments...the way everything drops out except for the perc and bass line - Wow! The vocals do need to come up to the front - hell, maybe some Parisians might get bent if you've mispronounced something, but they're too much of a "tease" at the volume you've got them. "The Black Night" is an intriguing title and I found myself struggling to hear what you were saying. Singing in a language that's not your first takes real courage - don't hide them behind the instruments. Even so, I have to fav this one anyway as I'll be listening to it more than a couple times. Cheers.

10 Nov 09 UPDATE: Still a favorite. Fantastic work with this piece!

I think I'll heed your advice and pull the vox up higher in the mix and see what flavor that brings. I hope to post a few others soon.

For years, improvisation was the only way I'd play. This track you've uploaded reminds me exactly why. The slightly effected sax is to die for, my man! Also, and more significantly, you've managed to avoid the trappings of most solo work - it doesn't sound like someone tossing off at all! Cheers.
