on He did it feat Patricia Edwards by Megapaul
Crazy man, that's incredible! I've produced a few tracks myself with Patricia's voice, but I never would have imagined that in rock. You did it incredibly well, hats off!!! Schöne Grüße in die Nachbarstadt - welche auch immer das in deinem Fall ist. Micky aus dem Neanderthal

on I feel Im getting by pseudoble
Yes, Manu is certainly right about the sound of this voice, and if you've already improved it, I would still find it a bit too "muffled". Having said that, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the track. There's so much going on, how do you go about getting all those sounds to groove together. And although it sounds like a wild mess, I felt like I was in a familiar, cozy living room. Really a very unique, very inspiring track.

Well - I tried to retweak that vox again today to bring it up and didnt bother to tapper the end this time so its 5 seconds of floating nothingness at the end. But yeah it's 25 tracks in the final mix and some of the synth parts are constructed separately before being added in hence the wild mess of sound. Thanks for listening and the warm feedback (still got the L plates on despite my age)

on Ride Of My Life by dimestop
Hi Paul, I have the feeling that with the special kind of your voice and your vocals it's somehow always ok for me. Sometimes I think, what the heck ... at one point the voice is too far forward, then at another point it is too quiet and then just right again. I would say that you really can't go wrong, you are ALWAYS an original. This track is another example of that.
Cheers from Micky

Hi Twanna, you know I'm a big fan of your voice. I just wanted to check if you're alright and if maybe you've already found the time and opportunity to do something with the music track I sent you...?
I fully understand if your commitments don't allow it... but it would be great!!!
Best regards,

on Prairie - Grow Together by ProdTRAPDOC
I like the track a lot.... sounds like a lot of work. The beat in the first longer part grabbed me right away... then the transition to the second, fast beat - wonderfully resolved. The incredibly awesome guitars that pop up... do you play them yourself?
All in all a successful track that was fun to listen to.
Cheers,
Micky

Thank you!
It certainly did take a while.
I played most of the instruments except the guitar at the end, sadly I don't play guitar but i made the end with bass and drums and had a friend who's really talented at guitar at that then asked him for a jazzy ending so it was fire. Thanks for the feedback!

I thought to myself, not a single one made a comment - I'll listen to it. I think it's a well-done track all round. Your lyrics, the arrangement, the sound, everything is perfect. But please consider that this is not my style at all and I have no idea about it. And still I liked the track! Cheers, Micky

This track is so beautiful and heartwarming that it's impossible for me to pay attention to whether there are any weaknesses of a technical nature in it...I didn't notice any. You have a super talent to write songs like this my friend....

on Rhodes Let s the door open by NadirSidahmed
What a beautiful track! It reminded me of The Doors at first, but then it becomes a super spacey track all of its own. I don't know how much your own part is in it, but the atmosphere is just "enchanting". Like it a lot!

on Dissentient Two by Musicwithoutborders
Hey Maj, there's something very special about this track that I can't really say what it is. You're experienced enough, so I assume that you deliberately created the mix this way, with this idiosyncratic distribution of all elements in the room. For me it has a cinematic effect (which can also have other reasons...). I know nothing about Trip Hop and Trap, so this is a naive but sincere compliment! Good, extraordinary track!

Yes, I was at a concert in '92 or '93. A strange event, where the Kinks also performed, along with the Stereo MCs and others - kind of a crude mix, but cool. I have to admit, though, that I didn't get too much of the concert because I was there with my (then) brand new flame, who I've been with for over thirty years now. I had my priorities then, if you understand...

Well there ya go, a great memory for sure!! Great decision Micky!

Must confess. I think I like Father Christmas as one of my favs by them, I like the song first off but I like the production on that more. Every little nuance in that song is great, the singing, the story, the guitars, the breaks....

Cheers!

on Step By Step 12 - Hold On - Better Days by BaoBou
What a beautiful track... sounds like a classic. That shows your real musicianship... Michael is right: I also find the open hi-hat and some of the cymbals too far forward, but that doesn't really detract from the track itself... Mix and sound come across very naturally, "unpolished ' which goes well with the track. In fact, I thought of Clapton on some of the vocals as well. All in all a beautiful, harmonious composition!
cheers,
mickey

Wow Micky, that's an awesome comment. The prasie makes me blush and thanks a lot for the tips!

The current drums are sort of placeholders in midi. Drums are still my weak point; recording live drums is hard (harder even than playing live drums) and the accoustics in my practice room are absolute horse shizzle, so even with a decent 4 mic setup it still sounds like bleh.

I got an electronic drumset hoping this would make recording easier, but they sound worse, so... I keep trying.

One way that seems to give decent results is to record live drums on a single mic aimed at kick/snare, then enhance them with midi/samples... but this still takes time... and I have too many projects :D (oh, and a full time job and a life of course)

I'll keep trying! And thanks so much for the encouraging words!

Hey Wayne, one of my favorite Kinks numbers, although I can't really think of a bad one. Well implemented. I think it's great that your vocals get that super reverb at certain points. Great guitar work, I had a chance to see Kinks live once....Dave Davies is great, but you do it just as well!

Keep rockin',

Big Kinks fan here, they were more of a raw 60's rock band and such great songwriting. Their music was for the common working man, it was distorted guitars and wonderful stories to be enjoyed. I liked both Ray and Dave's input and songwriting in their music.

No kidding, you saw them? That's awesome.

Take care Micky!

Robbie! Oh my goodness. I think it's time to put my guitar in the basement. Dust thoroughly, polish again, wrap in a soft blanket and then off into the suitcase for a long, deep sleep. Until we reach other galaxies where no one can steal the show from us, my wooden lover and I... sob

Peace from an admirer ;)

on EP track 2 - Body of a woman - Pablo Neruda by BaoBou
BaoBou, the others are right and I can only agree: that sounds like a good live recording. Personally, I would have given everything a little more reverb, but that's definitely my quirk... I live completely in some reverb and echo room (I'm sure it's my wild past to blame for that LOL). I also think the change to 4/4 is great ... it really pushes you again. Only the end is a bit abrupt .. I could imagine another solution. But in the end it's all a matter of taste, isn't it. I think it's a great idea to set a poem to music and you've done a great job here!
Greetings from (finally) rainy Germany,

Micky

Thanks so much Micky, great points.
- yes, I generally stay away from reverb/delay - I don't really get it and whenever I use it, I generally overdo it. But it can really give a track more space, so I'll check that. Good point.
- the ending is also a good point. I'm think to do what Paul suggested, maybe a bit more guitar is warranted :)

Thanks again, much appreciated and hope you enjoy the rain! ;)

Wow ... you're all bass again. How many basses are in there at the beginning...3...4? Only you can create such a puzzle and then later transform it into the most restful, warm flow. As always great and unique!

on Jynx- feat Joey Bonez Striking Daggers by Jynxz
Hey Robbie,

I haven't been here in a while and just discovered this. That's great. I think it's still Jynxz, all the elements are there. Maybe a little too much reverberation on the voice, but that's just a matter of taste. Crazy too, as always, your high-energy synth solos ... I think Jynxz and rap ... that works well!

Greetings from the Neanderthal,

Hello Micky,

You know that I have been exploring different
Genre's and kinda filtering them with my own interpretation
It's been hit or miss but I've enjoyed myself making every beat or weird sound along the way still looking for a resonant voice I can call home. Oddly enough I feel most grounded in space.

Thanks for giving the track a listen and encouraging comments.

on The African Moon Lullaby - For Danke by Orlando51
Hello Orlando,

somehow I stumbled upon this wonderful piece of music by accident and thoroughly enjoyed it. You truly understood the ambient genre and implemented it brilliantly here. I don't know if you know Lucia Hwong, she was on the "Private" label at the time and your track reminded me of some of her music... but you know what it's like, with comparisons like that... it's probably totally subjective. Crazy that the track even suggests smells to me... small campfire and stuff...

Many Thanks,

Micky

Hey mate, I don't know if everything about this mix came from you, but I particularly like the strings. Overall the vibe is great...there's a constant swarm of bumblebees in the background, which I think is great. And for Michael, who is great as always, it's a perfect outfit. A very successful mix.

I really admire the singer/songwriter style of music, especially when it comes to folk music. This is basically a folk song produced to be a rock song. It's about selling the story in the song to the listener and it is hard to do. Townes Van Zandt songs can make you depressed, sad, anguished.

It's why I write so much and so fast. I'm prolific when it comes to ideas and with practice you eventually get better at songwriting, lyrics and mixing.

Honestly, I'd have a hard time making songs like you and others do and can also appreciate how you guys make your songs.

Thanks Micky, be safe!

Wow, very nice again, Maestro. You're really good at nesting all the elements rhythmically with each other. Everything is alive there in the real sense. You also do a great job with the voice samples, but I can imagine that you would also love to work with a "real" female singer ... Maybe something will come up in that regard (...)
Also, I think Looperman should provide its own genre for you to choose from, something like "psychodubfunk" or "dubadelic"...or best of all "Jynxzadelic". No, best would be just "Jynxz", period.
Have a nice day my friend
