I would prefer to have the clap/snare to be more in your face and the kick too.

The sound is silky smooth though and funky too.

Interesting track. I noticed that there is not much dynamic range, so the kick, therefore doesn't sound as hard as it could with less compression.

I have a suggestion. What if you changed the Note Velocity, of the piano to make it more emotional otherwise it is just hard played with no variations.

Less compression and less limiting would really make a difference.

Silence makes things louder, if everything is equally loud then the sound becomes flat and boring.

I understand your mindset, that your favorite band is doing it in one way, and you like their sound and want to make the same sound.

In my opinion, I think it is like the Emperor's New Clothes. Their music is totally over-compressed, what makes it an extremely flat sound(boring) and it sounds like it is distorted, what makes it painful to listen to because of this sharp sound.

In the fine-tuning category, I will suggest, that you get a better Piano VST that sounds like a real piano.

It sounds really good.

One thing that I did notice that can improve your track is to fix the Es sounds. If you put some headphones on and turn it up really loud, then you will notice there are some high frequency sounds that are extremely annoying. The good news is, that it is easy to fix.

Do this:
Use a paramedic EQ and do a frequency sweep and listen for annoying high frequency sounds and KILL THEM!

If you don't know how to do a frequency sweep, then let me know and I will tell you.

One suggestion. If you add a little-bit of reverb on the singer, then she will stand out more powerfully.

I don't know, if it is the correct way of doing it. But I do it, and I think, it is easy and works great.

Use a meter(before the limiter) and don't have any compressor on the master. Turn off the limiter.

Turn everything down to zero(not the master), so there is no sound. Slowly turn up the kick to around -3-6 on the meter and then turn up the volume for the other instruments, till it sounds great, and the music does not go above -3-6 on the meter.

Turn the limiter on, and have a 2nd meter that show the level after it has been limited and look at both meters and make it sound good.

The master channel:
EQ to cut the very high and very low(20-40 Hz/low end and 18Khz high end)
Meter
Limiter
meter

The limiter should not go above -0.2-0.3, otherwise it can become distorted when people listen to it on their iphones etc.

By doing this the limiter has room to push up the sound and does not make it sound so flat.

There are probably pros out there, that know better ways to do it. But this is a good start.

I always know where to go, if I want to listen to quality music. You never let me down!

I have one thing, that can be improved. I noticed the sound is a bit flat(too much compression and limiter). Not much dynamic range that will make it sound bigger.

I will suggest you use a track you compare your work with, and then not make it louder than the track.

You can use Jay Z D'evis it sounds a bit like your track and it has nice dynamic range.

It has a nice positive vibe/energy that I like. Nice melody too.

I have some issues with the kick. I think, it needs some calibration, so it sounds right.

I also think, you should just go for your dream instead of this: "I plan to go to college to be a professional music producer/musician."

I don't have any college degree and yet I managed to work for this mainstream radio station in my country as a Radio host: nrj.com and when I don't make music, I work with international business.

You can do, have or be anything you like, if you go for it and is passionate about it. It is all about do what you want and network with likeminded people. If people can use what you have, then they will want you to work with them.

I will suggest you research business mindsets. Read/listen to the book Robert Kiyosaki - Rich dad poor dad. It will be a good start.

The kick is way too loud and the limiter has also been too aggressive. Notice the sound waves look like boxes. No dynamic range.
