Ah..I was cruising the forum threads and saw you'd put up a track, hang on a sec and I'll slip on my steel capped boots...My first impression is of a Eurovisioned Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (pity about ol'Humpy by the way,he deserved better than second last!)hehe...there's a lot of great staccato phrasing going on and the progressions throughout the piece are well structured and segue well...in fact you've done all the hard leg work conceptually..I wouldn't get too bogged down with things like sidechaining, compressing the bejezus out of things and bass boosting initially...these sort of trancey, electro tracks usually incorporate huge soundscapes with epic scene presence..the best way to track a big sound is to layer things..one synth part for instance is made up of five or six separate tracks with different eq filters, reverbs and left ,right, centre panning, same with the rhythm section....before you know it you've got that 'big' sound.........still,I like this version because it doesn't blast your socks off...cool!..one question, what does EDCA stand for please? cheers Dave
You did the jazz shimmy (please excuse my ignorance of jazz terminology) into here for lil 'ol me? I kinda love you ^^. Always flattered to get a comment from a vetreran looper.
It WAS actually looking for that "blast your soxxx off" sound and have done some layering (far from enough though) but I'm glad you like it as it is.
Oh, EDCA is a closely guarded secret, which will be revealed only when my work is of its best possible quality. I'll give you a clue though; it's nothing to do with eating dandelions calmly asleep. That narrow it down any? ^^
This is actually pretty impressive considering how long you've been doing this! :)
Engaging melodies and things seem like they're in the right place from where I'm listening. Are you happy with your progress so far? I would be..
If you say you've compressed things twice.. you could be squashing the signal too much, hence the low volume. What does the dB meter say on the master channel on the mixer?? You should be aiming to get near 0dB without going into the red.. but then again, that's what we have brick wall limiters for!
Thanks! I'm content with how it's progressing, but I'm aware there's a long way to go until I'm even sounding semi pro. Stay tuned for moar updates, as I'm sure there will be quite a few.
You're right about the signal being squashed. I put a limiter on the master and kept things at around 50%.
This is pretty awesome! I don't hear what you say sounds out of sync. All in all it's a really good composition! What I can hear that it's lacking is mastering, as I had to turn up my little speakers really far to get a good volume! Some automated cutoff filters on the synths might brighten things up a bit, but it's not really necessary. Good work so far!
Ahh, I love it. Very catchy!
My favourite genre used to be happy hardcore/trance...
Two things I suggest you look into - Compression/Side Chain and Filter tracks. Once you apply these and get a nice bass frequency your mix will sound that much more professional.
Hey, glad to hear from you again :) Thanks for the kind words and suggestions.
Thing is, it's already doubly side chain compressed. I don't know what I'm not doing right because you're right it still sounds out of sync. I applied a bass booster to it too but it still seems lacking. Hmmm....
Thanks :)
There are three versions; 130, 135 and 140bpm. I think this is the 135 one. No download for the general public yet but I can email you the mp3.
