I can't say much on the music itself as it is contains heavy cinematic wide-spectrum-screen drum kind of sounds. It is just hard to evaluate them as they are represent the quality themselvs.
At 0:50 - first time I hear someone is automating clap like that to create reversed lead-in haha. Very cool blendage of different background ambient story-related sounds
Thanks promenade! You're right, this track does have a lot of cinematic screen sounds in it. My idea was to try and create a scene based off the music alone. Its nice to know, that I was able to accomplish that. As for the claps, yeah, I was going for something a little bit different. Its great to know I succeeded.
Like the track. Especially the hype drums. Cool storyline as well. Was picturing it in my mind while listening. Reminds me of a Max Payne scene or maybe Fight Club.
sweet track. great start to my wednesday morning. someone probably mentioned - but usually I find that the track did update - just need to clear the history from the browser. As far as creative blocks go - I try not to think about what people might like (at least not initially) but rather what I am interested in creating at the moment. Later in the process I try to have the audience in mind because after all, music should move others, entertain. Peace.
Thanks midi! I was actually able to overcome the creative issues, thanks to everyone's great advice. The track eventually did update, just took an entire day to do so, which I'm still confused why it did so. The advice you gave is great, I totally agree. If you try to make music to please others, you'll never come up with anything good, as everyone taste and different and its impossible to please others.
Thanks for the amazing tips and for always stopping, much appreciated! Take care.
Beautiful track, Modnex. Are you still using the same interface that you used for your other track that I tried mixing? This one really is sweet, has a very positive atmosphere that I really enjoy listening to. Perfect for a rainy day like today :)
Hey Brado, yeah I'm still using the same interface, just tried to change the style up a bit. Its nice to know this gives off a pleasant atmosphere, as that's what I like my music to give to people when they listen to it.
Thanks for always checking in, always appreciated. Take care :)
It's cute in the start. As it goes longer, it gets catchy, and very enjoyable. That little xylophone like music box is very nice I must say. There's nothing wrong for me, since I rarely listen to Chillsteps but upon hearing this, it gives me more positive insights about it.
Thanks, and CHEERS
Thanks 2d2R! Glad you enjoyed this track. I agree, I too enjoyed the music box like sound. I'm happy this track gave off positive vibes. Its always great to know that.
Really harmonious and good sounding track. Enlighten me about "chill out" music, is this type designed for vocals? Though i don't think i could come up with something for this per say, something made by you with more bass and drums would go pretty good. Excuse me for being too busy to check your other work at the moment and discover for myself whether or not i could answer my own question. Good work.
Thanks Format! Some chill out songs can be designed for vocals, but not so much this one as it has too much going on. I'm always up for collaboration, so if you want to collaborate, feel free to send me an email at magic41151@yahoo.com and we can see what we can make together.
Very pleasant and uplifting vibe Modnex. I'm not noticing any lack of creativity, but those ups and downs are something that we all experience one way or another along our musical lives....maybe you should only pay a bit more
atention to the final production, cause there's quite alot of distortion to hear in some places. Other than that it's a very fine piece of music which you should be proud of!
Thanks Orlando! Yeah, the mix needs a little work. I hear the distortion you're hearing too. I think its being caused by the changes I added to the master channel.
For the creativity part, it was mainly the struggle and the amount of time it took me to come up with something compared to how things were before. Its becoming much harder for me to come up with stuff than it used to be. I just hope its a phase that will pass soon.
Thanks Golden! Yeah, most of my tracks are usually loud, just the way I like it. But, on occasion I do attempt to lower down the mix. Which usually ends with me getting complaints that its too low, so I decided to just stick with the low mixes.
Thanks for you input, glad you enjoyed this one. Have a great day!
What Pete said :p also try studying a bit of theory, so much free info available now a days!!! and put things into practice (try them out) as you learn, really helps me create new stuff. Experiment experiment experiment! Try listening to other types of music you like, that usually helps spark some ideas. I've been listening to Wardruna lately, Nordic viking music, I love it. Try different genres, step out of your comfort zone. I'll write blues, then metal, then something else. I really need to rty my hand at electronic. I like the white noise, keep it ;) Such a happy piece, what more can I say .
Learning theory would probably help a lot. Those are all great tips. I actually was looking into blues and classical the other day. Both genres are interesting and would be quite a journey to make. A great journey, that is. So, I may try getting into that.
Thanks for all of the helpful tips and for all of the support, always appreciated!
I think everyone gets thats, i know i do
I try to listen to alot of music, get new software keep things new and interesting and stuff usually comes to me. you just have to patient and dont give up out of frustration.
This is a really cool track, super chill. Right down my alley :)
I think you're right! Creativity is something that comes and goes, sometimes you're full of creative spark and other times you can't find that spark to save your life. Maybe it all depends on our current state or mood. Or perhaps, its just something that happens more when we're inspired and less when we're trying to force it. I don't know, but I wish I could figure it out.
this is great...very uplifting feel...don't think that you have any creative problems after listening to this track...unlike those 2 before me, I liked that white noise, though I know that it's out of the genre's expectations...but agree we the tempo changes...
Not much advice about the 'lack of creativity' period...go to run, enjoy the nature or the big city life day and night, to get effects...:-)
Thanks Danke! Glade you enjoyed this one. I guess the white noise just comes down to taste. I'm going to see if I can replace it with something better. If not, I'll just keep it the way it is. Those ideas on gaining creativity, sounds great. The next time I'm having trouble with a song, I'll take a walk and let my mind wonder. That might definitely help gain ideas.
I agree with all of Silverman's points. the song is sweet. If you remove the white noise you can replace it with a simple organic drum fill, that would do the trick. Then you can use a similar but not the same fill in other parts of the track to distinguish the sections. The key for my musical productions is in the percussion elements. It's what subconsciously holds the listener's interest. Add them subtly and quietly in the mix, sometimes panned far right or left (like a high hat, or a shaker), but it makes a difference. I used to suffer from reverse cymbal fever, in that I believed if I didn't have that element for a phrase change the whole thing would fall apart, but Static Nomad convinced me otherwise and he was correct, now I rarely use them. Oh Also, Right now I'm on a prolific streak of music but sometimes I have gone years without making music. I never force it. But I find if I go into a session with no plan for what I want to do sometimes inspiring things happen as well. Or choose to make a song about an abstract feeling or idea. "Today I'm gonna write a song about how the colour blue feels." for example. Silverman is right as well. Today's crap might actually be something great months or years later.
Cru
An organic drum sounds like it might do the trick. If I can't get any of the ideas thrown out there to work, I'll try going with that. I have the same issue you had with the cymbal. For me, I have to use some sort of sweep effect or the track just sounds empty to me. Perhaps, trying out new ways will help me with the creative issues as its something new and gives me more to explore, and play with. If it doesn't help with the creative issues, I can always do what you suggested and try to give myself challenges to complete when making music. That should inspire me more.
Thanks for all of the help, Steve!
Will definitely give it a go.
Your not alone in the struggle to be creative. I have long periods where I'm not happy with much of what I produce but I've learnt to save stuff and maybe go back to it later maybe not. Some of the people on here arte not only exceptionally talented and creative they are prolific too .... very. Wish I could be like that but it's not happening. A drum a cymbal a hi hat a rim shot a bit of smooth synth or guitar something as smooth as the the rest of it. Maybe something a little muted like a bass of some kind. But to my ears what you have there just now doesn't sit right.
Yeah, I hate when this happen. Unfortunately this is the longest this has ever happened to me and I was starting to get a little scared. Maybe, all I need is a little inspiration.
I'll try out those suggestions for the break, and see if it works for me. I also agree this track, does sounds like it can be in a kids movie or series.
Very pleasant piece.
Two criticisms.
The white noise kind of rush which I myself use lots at 1.05 doesn't belong in this piece it's not needed.
Second it needs a couple of break points tempo changes whatever to just break it up that little bit. Otherwise I found it very relaxing and very well put together.
Thanks silverman! I agree, the white noise does sound a bit out of place. I'm not too sure what I would replace it with though, as the transition doesn't sound complete, if I just leave that part empty. If you have any ideas, I'm all ears :).
Those ideas about the tempo changes and break points sound great, I'm going to give that a shot and see what it sounds like.
Hah, That song was from the Canadian band LEN, circa 1999. You chopped it well as I could barely hear it in there as it's sickly sweet sticky buns melody made it the summer number one in both the US and Canada.
Instead you chooped it into a raw sinister industrial sound which I liked as well.
good on you.
Cru
Thanks Steve! I attempted to make it a little more dark than the original track, as it was for rap. I can actually hear the industrial sound you mention.
Sending it by email is fine. My email is magic41151@yahoo.com . You can send your finished version there along with any other collaborations we may do in the future.
Hey Modnex very strong this one! I like the gritty and aggressive appeal. Courious to imagine some hard riff guitar parts on it, just an idea...
good job!
Thanks Max! Glad you like it. A hard riff guitar part sounds interesting, unfortunately I'm not very well at the guitar. Maybe someone will contribute and add it on for me. You guys just keep giving me all these awesome ideas, that's why I love looperman!
Thanks man! I'm happy you enjoyed this. That sounds like a cool idea, now you're giving me ideas. Maybe I'll change the tempo and upload the lower tempo version. Thanks for stopping in.
Cool track. It has a very 'heavy' sound, the samples and fx really give it a gritty edge. As you have said, the mix needs a little work, but it's already sounding quite good. So I look forward to hearing the final piece.
Thanks man! I'm happy you enjoyed what I have thus far. I agree the song does give off a heavy vibe, but it works. Thanks for stopping by and the input, always appreciated.
