Fabulous! Now this is great!

Love the vibe! Very very good production! The vocals are a bit buried in the mix. Have you tried a doubler on a parallel track? That will really bring them forward and add a bit of presence.

I'm really loving your work! Will keep your page bookmarked!

Cheers!

Yeah, on this one, both guy and girl have a double track ( the guy gets a third one in some parts ). But the takes were really awful... I can't even remember how I got rid of the humming...

I don't know if this is smart or not, but I changed the doubletrack EQing to make it sound a lil different, and moved it a few ticks off... Tried using a plugin ( Waves OneKnob Wider ) but it revealed some unwanted artefacts in the background...

Thanks for listening, reviewing, and for sharing your knowledge...

Peace.

Ahh! Reggae! Love it!

I'm becoming a fan of your work!

Love the track but since I'm an engineer I'm gonna add a couple of things that might help you out.

Widen the drums! There is a tad to much room in them and they sound very mono. There is also a tad to much midrange and that gives it a nasal quality (to much 1.5kHz maybe).

Love the vocals! Very good performance! The production is really good! You should if you don't already have a job in a studio. You've got great skills!

Thanks mahloo for these precious tips ! I'm gonna try it as soon as I get back home !

I had a very very very... VERY difficult session with this one... Drums and horns especially were HELL to record... I think in the beginning I wanted to hear very crisp drums, with a very aggressive hi-hat and cyms... BUT... This is what you get when you mess with the mics :D

More seriously, I couldn't find a solution neither for horns nor the drums, so I'd left'em like this...

Again thank you for your tips, I really appreciate man...

Peace.
Chris

( by the way, no, I'm not workin' in a studio, not even in music unfortunately )

Oui oui!

Loving this Chris! Believe it or not I've always loved french hip-hop! I'm a big Soprano fan.

Love the production on this one! It sounds a bit dark though! Do you use NS10's by chance. I make the same mistake sometimes when working on them.

Anyways totally love this! I just wish it would be a bit wider. Or maybe it's because it's so dark that I have the impression that it's a bit narrow.

Anyways very cool production man! Off to check some more!

Cheers!

Thank you Mahloo... This song is pretty old now and if I remember well, I was using... berhinger monitors... no comment :D

But rather than put the blame on the monitors, I'd better admit I have no particular audio knowledge... I'm a music player, I try to mix the best I can, but apart from watching youtube tutorials, you know, gotta do it with my ears rather than with my brains, and it limits what I can do... I wish I had been able to learn all that stuff... would have probably made things easier :D

Again thx for reviewing and very big thanks for all your tips shared here on the loop...

YOU TOTALLY ROCKED THIS OUT!!! This is the freshest HipHop I've heard in quite some time. If you don't mind, I'd like to see if i can come up with some brilliant lyrics...the lyric melody is already bouncing in my head!

Thank you very much Leahcim.

Feel free to write on it, as nobody ever sent vocals to me for this track and I'd be glad tomake this instrumental a real song... As I said in the track description, I can rearrange the song if you need... Shorten the verses, add parts, write a bridge or whatever, tell me...

Peace.

Great track, I love this kind of music. It has a Lucky Dube feel to it meaning it has a very positive upbeat Caribbean feel to it. Get work producing this around the awesome pella, Patricia is so talented. Sounds awesome, gonna dl this so thanks!

This is such a great track - well done. Love the sound of the kit. Sounds like a real drummer. Bass line is lovely. The horns are so good. The middle eight really kicks off too - brilliant. I'm knocked out with the arrangement and of course you give the amazing vocal talent that is Patricia Edwards a chance to shine through. Top job all round. Excellent. Love it.

Thank you Richie for your kind review... Drums have been played on a Roland electronic kit, using the sounds of the Toontrack Superior Custom and Vintage Expansion Series. Unfortunately, I noticed after the recording was done that I didn't play enough fills so I had to edit the drums take to add more fills and it has lost a bit of "human touch" in the process in some parts...

Thanks again for listening.

Thank you very much for this kind review... I'm so glad people like this song... I worked real hard on the horn section to make it sound "real". I hope the goal is reached.... I had to record individual lines. There are 3 trombones, 2 trumpets, 1 alto sax line, one tenor line, one barython line... Then I applied brillance effects and nothing quantized. Maybe I could improve the realistic touch, and I'm always looking forward to some advice for a better sound...

Again thx for taking a bit of your time to listen to this song and leaving this very kind review.

Peace.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww man!!!!!!!!!

You had me, all the way up to the end haha. You gotta do one last chord with the band after I say "with you", you just gotta, three times I've listened to it and my brain goes crazy with Adrian Monk anxiety LOLOL.

This is REALLY REALLY fun, great, I never think of Reggae for my vocals, you have outdone yourself Mister! And that bass, especially on the bridge, mwahhhhhhhhh! Gon' wichoo bad self!

Soap replied 27th Mar 2012 - 13 years ago
Well Patricia, I don't know why but when I heard your acapella I immediately thought of reggae for this one... So, here's the result... :)

I'll try to place that chord in the end and I'll send you an update :)

I'm so glad you liked it :)
Maybe I would have liked to play a variation around a second verse, even short.... :)

I'm just curious... For the bridge, was that the harmony you were hearing while writing your bridge ? I had so much fun with this chord progression....

I'm glad I have found this site, with so many people who share their talent... I'd never have had the opportunity to find such a good voice here in my little France...

Thanks for sharing Patricia.

Hi Stereo.... Thank you for your kind review... I'm glad you like it. There's only one loop in this song ( the cabasa/maracas shakin' during the break )... Horns have been created with Vir2 Mojo Horns Library, except the solo tenor sax, which I have played...

I use EQ / Exciter / Verb to fatten the horn section...

That's it for the recipe :)
Thanks for listening.
Peace.

I've always found it interesting that HH music uses a lot of orchestral instruments and classical motifs yet leaves them mostly subordinated to the beat....the only reason I say this is my first encounters with classical music were abject failures as I didn't really 'get it'.... and I have no doubt if I had of heard music like this when I was a kid I would have become hooked so to speak...since then I've listened to heaps of Classical music and enjoy it but I still don't 'get it' fully! lol..great tune,I wonder how an orchestra would handle it...cheers Dave :)
Soap
Soap replied 13th Mar 2012 - 13 years ago
Dave, man I really understand this :) Same for me... Grown by piano addicts, had to spent something like 25 years running scales and passing thumbs under the middle finger :D Raised with Bach exercises ( very few people know it's exercising more than music )... It took me 30 years to explore classical music, on my own, and being able to like it... :)

Unfortunately, classical music refers very often to "musical education", and this directly refers to a very close-minded world I think... When you open this world to other worlds, then it becomes interesting...

As I wonder too how a real orchestra would handle it... Especially if they work like me, with a tequila bottle on their side :D

Again, thank you for stopping by and leaving feedback... :)

Thank u so much !!! Actually this is the second time I write reggae... But it came naturally to my mind that this pella ( which is originally soul/RnB ) should be surrounded with some kind of "reggae vibe".... I'm so flattered by such a comment in this way, especially from a fan of the style...

LOVE the intro..

How come this only has 1 comment on it so far? This is fantastic..

There are some amazing sounds - I particularly like the arabian sounding strings and the subtle keys and the wah wah :)

I can't really comment on the lyrics because je ne comprends pas :p

Over all though, this is superb - if you aren't signed to a record label - why not?

Thank you George... I'm glad you like it...

My god if you only knew how hard it was to record that f$£^%ing violin !!! It's not my main instrument, and I don't really know about this "arabian" kind of playing sooooo... I cheated with Melodyne, and doubled it with some ueberschall one shots to make it sound fatter... Sorry to deceive you lol...

Regarding the lyrics, it's the track in which he introduces himself... ( Title says "here I come..." ). Actually, the intro is a real phone conversation with his sister "bleed mic-recorded" in the studio... They had to meet, he was late, so they argued a lil bit on the phone, and later on, I found the track in Pro Tools without knowing I had recorded it... :D That's why the intro was the very last thing added to the track :D

Again thank you for your feedback and kind comment :)

Chris

I'm liking this one. Takes me back to the days when i could go out clubbing without looking like an old bloke who really shouldn't be there. I don't think the quality of it as bad either. It was a little bassy but nothing that the old graphic eq couldn't sort out with ease.
