Yeah, when we get a full time vocalist, that will be another mixing pain to figure out, but to be fair, it isn't my mixing pain, this was all mixed by my guitarist, I just played and tweaked my keyboard sounds. Finding a vocalist though... that's gonna be the hard part...
that's a real good track ... tight playing, great composition ... love that choir sound ...
guitar sound could be improved, but I guess that's more a question of equipment, so it shouldn't matter atm ...
very epic track!!
like it a lot ...
Yeah, I was amazed at how awesome the choir sounded in the mix. As for the guitar sound, I don't think it's a matter of equipment, my guitarist uses a GNX 4 processor and a post lawsuit 1970's Ibenez flying V guitar. Any ideas on how to change it to give it a more crisp sound would be appreciated, though.
I purposely used the most cheesy sounds I could because I don't think I'm any good at making hip hop, so I do it more as a joke, but I really, really wanted to use that piano loop because it was just too good to pass up. But the 80's style clap? The cheesy high strings? The arp loop? It's just too cheesy for me personally to enjoy, but I will say again that the piano loop is badass through and through!
I saw your comment on my forum post. Thank for your originality. This song is really nice on my ears. I can see it fitting in all kinds of different media. The piano seemed a bit loud at one point but nothing is perfect, and if something sounds perfect it loses some human quality which I love about unsigned artists. Keep it up, your tracks are really cool.
wow. the piano on this is very intracite and to the point. i like this a lot. you need to do more tracks like this one because this is epic. its flowing into speakers like an epidemic, you killed it someone get a paramedic!!!
lol. Thanks man, I never had anyone bust rhymes in a review before. I got a couple more tracks like this out there, and I may or may not have posted them, I have to double check.
Thanks for the review, I'm glad you like it so much. If you want the track, I'll email it to you. Due to certain circumstances in the past (not relating to looperman or its users) I don't make my music available for download until I have a copyright attorney go through the channels to copyright it.
Sorry for the late reply, I went to Casterfest in Texas for a week, just got back last night at 5am.
When I heard this I wanted to cry!You have done something so special here!I wish I could achieve such quallity production. You've blown me away!excellent!!!
Trance as a genre is really outside my area of expertise, so I'll tell you what works to my ear, and what doesn't quite.
First, the rhythm and synth do work beautifully. The "happiness" from that synth is really worth the price of admission here.
I'm not so sure about the vocals...there are times when it's really happening, but at others her voice gets a bit lost in the high end. I'm really not keen on Autotune, and I'm not sure if this is why I'm having trouble with the vocals. Maybe focusing on the end of the vocal cycles will give it that sense of 'tightness' it still needs.
That said, this is off to a great start and I'd say really successful in terms of a first mastering attempt. Kudos and keep having fun!
I appreciate the advice and encouragement. I always feel like I lose the kick drum in the mix, and that really didn't happen here, which is why I was reasonably satisfied. I agree, the vocals need some work, and an EQ, I think I'll go back in and remix the volumes when I get back to my friend's house.
Love the pianos the drums are hot. I do have thing I would like to say that I am having problems with and thats the bass line. It seems to be a little to strong for the track and is overtaking the pianos. Buut other than that i like the track
Thanks for the review. I purposely made the track super bassey because it really establishes a counter rhythm in the track, something this is sorely missing in hip hop these days, but it might be a little strong. I'm mixing with tiny ear bud headphones, so I really have to jack the bass just to hear it. I'll see if I can't fix that problem one of these years...
firstly I gotta say trance aint my cup 'o tea but.. I liked this as much as I could trance.. those vocals need that high end trimmed at times they get a little too much also there are a few small timing issues at times... sorry probably not what you wanted to read but I have to be honest cause thats my style .. theres your review brother.. now remember to pass it on.. keep 'em coming
That's exactly what I wanted to read. I love when people can pinpoint problems in the track that I missed. I'll eq the vocals later this week, I didn't even think to do that, and I'll also put a volume automation on them. The timing issues are just lazyness on my part, plain and simple. I didn't want to chop all the vocals apart, so I left them as is and used the bpm from the acapella. Thanks again for the advice!
nicely done for ten minutes. yeah ten minutes was a harder challenge for me than the beatmakers competition. I like the drumline. reminds me of some old school breakdancing.
I'll have to wrestle with that one. I really did this piece to show another side of my music making, but you are really, really good... I'll get back to you.
This is really some great piano material (and strings too). The only critisism I could make is that there are places where the strings should 'back down' in volume so the piano can shine more.
The strings always have harmonic stuff. If a real classical ensemble were to play this, the string players would control the dynamics in a softer way, since the piano (usually) has the more important material. Fantastic work though!
Thanks for the input! It's hard to find someone who will even make a critisism, let alone take the time to put it down.
I was actually going for the strings to take the louder section in this piece, because I think the piano is a little repetitive in all, and I more or less made to piece to showcase my string arrangements.
I totally feel where you are coming from though. Thanks again for the input.
Thanks a lot! The track itself 10 levels, which is why it's so long, each level only being about a minute at its longest. Happy to hear you like the melodies. Do a google image search for "The House on the Rock" sometime, and you'll kind of see where each track fits.
