I like the words. They are irreverent enough to be provocative but not annoying. It is different, I was expecting a Johnny & the Hurricanes type sound.
Thanks! I tried to make the lyrics as if they were from a self centered punk attitude of "why is everyone affecting me in negative way" type of thing and make it kinda seem as if the singer was a bit ignorant to the fact that everyone else was probably thinking the same thing about him, haha.
Johnny and the Hurricanes, heard of them but had to resort to you tube to check them out. I recognized one of their songs, kinda surf stuff, nice.
nice man, is that you on the lyrics? and bass? probably doing the whole lot aye!!! but man, this is nice, got that feel like i wanna see it in some dark bar, sticky beer stained carpet, and just people out and about listening to this on the back of their ear!...man, i would love this to start pumping in my dark beer stained carpet pub!!! nice man. ThatcheR
I like your "beer stained carpet" description, very fitting for this song. Tried to keep it simple, raw and garage band sounding. Yup, did all instruments and vox.
Nice work, really good piece. i feel u need to work on ur outro of the track. other than that i really liked the track. what gear do u use for recording?
Yea all my songs could use a lot of work!lol Yea, it just kinda ends I guess, Oh well, haha!!
I just bought a new computer with a Windows 7 upgrade. This presents a problem in a couple of ways. My current software, Cool Edit Pro, isn't 100 percent compatible with Vista 64 bit OS but works OK. I want to buy Adobe Audition 3 but it isn't Windows 7 compatible yet, and If I upgrade to Windows 7 Cool Edit may not work at all. So I'm in a holding pattern to upgrade till something works out. As a result my recordings lack the mastering "polish" they deserve.
For a condenser mic I use an AKG Perception 200. It's an awesome mic for the price!!
I had to laugh at your response to JFW - I've had a mandolin built in the 1800's for about 20 years now, and I play mostly Sub-Saharan blues riffs on the thing, or I play it so it sounds like it's from the Ganges Delta. My balalaika only wants me to pick its strings! I'm thinking that instruments have their own "spirit" and the best music is finding their Voices and songs they "want" to sing. This is great stuff - I definitely hear how some hear an Ennio Morricone sound behind it, which personally I'd like to hear more often! Really nice work!
It's weird how instruments affect you. They all have their own personalities and you love each one like a love for each different child. Making music with instruments is totally different than using a computer to produce the sounds, there is a connection between you and the instrument and it is a unique experience.
Well this is the first track of yours that didn't create some entity moving through some environment in my mind. This time, it's just chill. Kind of like in the bar during the day, when the music IS more sober. This is also very QT.
I did a video montage to this song using the Windows Movie Maker Program. Check my link to my my space page to view it. Just really nice pics depicting a comfortable Sunday Morning to the music.
The arrangement here is gorgeous. What I really like is how it's got that Spanish flavor, and yet it's been recontextualized into a more dynamic and current feeling. It's like you've reinterpreted a particular tradition and in the process have created something new.
Thanks nOmad23. When I posted it I started getting reviews saying it was a spaghetti western style, yet I never considered it(or a lot of my music) to be of any particular genre.
I think because I like all kinds of music, my music reflects that. I've been in this Spanish rut for a while and it's a good rut to be stuck in.
Thanks Spivkurl for your review. When I first recorded it I thought it was too simple and sparse, like it needed more instruments. Sometimes less is more.
I tried to keep the production simple and give it a garage band/early N.Y. punk scene feel. Lou Reed and Jim Carroll("People Who Died" fame) were influential in the vox.
I'll swing by and listen in on a few of your tracks.
wow. Beautiful. Thick, lush - this is soooo natural and lush. Really loving that. Nice melody. It's like a musical cloud of bees and strings moving through the air in the forest. Simply wonderful, great work. All acoustic instruments?
I don't think the song was posted for more than a few minutes, when you and Frenchkid reviewed it. You guys are fast! It's funny you mentioned motion picture, I'll be posting a few songs in the next few weeks where my friends call them "movie and TV theme songs".
I'll check out your tunes in a bit and thanks for the kind words.
Another great track!Love this spanish melancholic atmosphere.Your guitar playing is excellent!Faved and download.Gonna check your other tracks. French Kid
Hi Wayne, Thanks for steering me here. I just listened to this tune and I like the sound of it. I also appreciate JFW for recommending it to you. I gave somewhat of a review of this song here when I replied to your review of my tune.
There is another 'Spanish' song in my profile I did you may like. It is called 'El Nino-Latin-Spanish'.
I will get around to listening to some of your other songs soon as well.....as I am at work now!
Great stuff. Blues? again, you have a catchy Spanish motif on this. This is very Ennio Morricone ( the good, the bad and the ugly etc ). There is a guy on Looperman ( Randall822 ) who does stuff like this - check out his track "Western Showdown" I think you'll like it. Cheers.
Thanks for the reviews and your kind words. Only a couple of people have ever heard my music and given any feedback, which, I guess is one of the things I like about this site. I bought a mandolin about a year and a half ago and now my music has a Spanish sound. I never played anything remotely Spanish sounding before that. Kinda wierd, huh? I'm going with it....
LOL, I thought kinda' hot sultry spanish night was invoked, until I read the French Kid's review, oh yeah spaghetti western for sure, guns at noon. A nice little track, enjoyed it!
