Hello, I almost missed a great song of yours! Once again fantastic old school rock with shiny guitars and impressive vocals. The guitar riffs are masterfully played, and the bass and drums complement them perfectly. Only the ending could have perhaps used a little more polish *smile*. A great song, like so many of yours.
Well the guitar riffs have probably been played by every guitarist who ever picked up a guitar and they are fantastically simple, embarrassing actually, lol. But that's all this needed, simple riffs and that gritty tone out of this Epiphone. I feel I ripped Gibson off by buying this at such a ridiculously low price. And Epiphone just came out with a $1300 series of gits using the Custom Shop electronics and hardware. They look like they are worth every penny.
I almost added some keys and some more guitar at certain points but like most times I ended up not. The ending...just wanted it to end i suppose, he.
closer to punky rock, vocal is great Wayne really goes with the vibe, great bass and drum track, your always a good listen with your own individual style and brand mate, keep entertaining us with your stories
I'm proud to be the first to write something about this fantastic song ... amazing dynamics, brutal groovy, cool voice, outstanding bass ... Wayne, hats off to you again ...
fistbump,
Danke
I could have never written this song using my Strat or my Les Paul, this git has that tone for the attitude it needs. I go to this Gibson site and love "The Collection" series. Peter Frampton is the latest interview. He says the same thing about each guitar he owns, they all have their own sound and character for the particular song he wants to write. The Noel Gallagher interview in the "Icons" series is epic, lol.
Hey Mate
Crystal Clear right of the bat, very nice drive, notice under punk but wasn't what I was expecting admittingly I'm not one to listen to punk music so didn't really know what I was going to get lol, excellent track to my ears, I would say one of your best vocals on this too my friend. even though I like all your vocal tracks, but this one stands out for sure, sorry not been here much Wayne, heaps of issues with my better half, but just did a new piece dedicated to my better half so thought would upload to site. MASSIVE FAV and downloaded...Much Respect Wayne...mosaic.
My version is a little more garage band that the original version. This was done in '72, just before people had had enough and wanted a drastic change musically and I think songs like this led the way with it's driving guitars and vocals. I had only heard this for the first time about 6 weeks ago and it just struck me as punk in it's basic form before the guitars got a lot thicker. It's a fun song, great lyrics but a tough one for me to sing both parts in this key, Bb.
Aha Status Quo, a great band and I have to say one of my fave songs by them is "The Wanderer" always one I can rock out to, I have to say you are doing this one so much justice & never disappoint whatever you sing. A super rocking! tune indeed, brilliant work on the track and much enjoyed! Kudos!
That's him, Wayne! Just like I know and love him. Uncompromising old school rock. The singing and music are just great! I am looking forward to more. Kind regards, Manuela.
That Death in Vegas track is so similar to Matchstick Men, how did they not get sued for copyright? It's a neat track but way too close for comfort in my opinion, lol.
I've been checking the Quo a lot on youtube, so many cool tracks, lots of energy in their songs. And so much live stuff posted, they put on a show!
great track Wayne, The Quo's are great and i too cant understand why they never made it big in the US. Francis Rossi and the boys still rock tho.
great playing and vocal as always, authentic vibe and another really good listen for me.
I've known Pictures of Matchstick Men since I was a kid and even as I grew older I still had never heard any other tracks by these guys on the radio or on an album owned by any friends.
It's fun to stumble on some great classic rock tracks by an artist that surprises you with their songs other than their big hit.
I tried keeping the guitars more on the clean side like the original. My new Epiphone Les Paul Jr can give the clean rock tone in so many ways, always loved this classic guitar.
Ha! That's funny and a compliment, tell her thanks! The more I check them out the more I'm surprised they never made more of a mark on US radio. Really only Matchstick Men was played over here.
The Quo's still rockin', live tv from Germany just 2 years ago:
Well-crafted track in your typical, straightforward style. I think this is a nice example of how well it can work with clean and sparsely divided guitar parts. Personally, I would have placed an additional, thin guitar with a few notes far into the background in the last part to open up the space at the end. But of course that's a matter of taste.
Cheers,
Micky
I try not to over produce my tracks, the keep it simple stupid approach, he. I wish I had harmonicas in all the keys because I might have added some here and there, possibly in the end to fill in some spaces.
Hi Wayne, great song! The differences between the two guitars are clearly audible. I believe every instrument can play to its strengths when used correctly, and that's exactly what you did. The rhythm is nice, and the drums and bass also stand out clearly. As for your voice... well, as a woman, I probably shouldn't say that I find it very sexy *smile*.
However, it's not entirely clear to me what you mean by "The lead is with my new Les Paul Jr. Piano and accordion in the lead for effect". Maybe I'm reaching the limits of my English here.
Kind regards, Manuela
What I did with the piano and accordion was to combine them to create an effect rather than have them stand out individually in the mix. To me they almost sound like a guiro percussion instrument. Now I own a guiro but decided to engineer a similar sound by combining the piano and accordion, it's just how it worked out, fortunately.
Also I don't crush my mixes with low threshold levels on my compression in my master track which allows me to mix that sound more in the back of the mix, as an effect.
Woohoo! I was wondering where you were, mind you I have not been on too much, just now and again posting a song when I get time or uploading older ones...But lets talk about this little jam right here which deserves a grammy btw no joke the whole track is on point! & to the point, Moonshiner aye lol... Vocals & music are stellar. You are one of the absolute! best songwriters *Hands Down* your storytelling is always ACE! I'm always impressed and come away a very satisfied listener. Brilliant Stuff indeed. Always a fave. Bravo!
I took a couple months off to basically get away from recording and set up all my new gear(comp, interface, guitars, software...). Come back with fresh ears.
This is a great song man! I've not had the pleasure of hearing ur work before, but I'm glad I hit play on this one. I'm a fan of music of all kinds, especially ones made by true songwriters or composers. U can tell the difference. Great work here, man.
a style recognizable among thousands, great composition Wayne even if I would have preferred a mix a little more "bold" the song is very nice! great job my friend!

The Wanderer, great Dion song. I've heard their version, more rocked up than the original.
This was easy enough to cover and a great fun song.
Thanks Angelus!

These "inspired by Gibson" Epiphones are a steal for the price they are charging and the quality of these guitars. The P 90 Pro pickup is hot!

Thanks man but the brilliance comes from Rossi and Young.
Gotta say I love this guitar, the neck feels right and the tones I'm getting through my tweed Fender Bronco amp(direct in) works well with it.
Take care!

I love status quo they used to get slagged off for the simple chords but they were effective and they had some real good tunes.
