Hey Mike - just back from travels ... this one has some pointers to the animal collective to these old ears but lots of gorgeous jazz square wheel ambiance - a beautiful sonic trip.
Free sound sure is an endless draw of interesting things but I havent mastered how to craft with it yet - spent ages listening the sounds made on the Prague metro (I lived there once). Hope you are doing well
Ian
cheers Ian! i am mainly plundering freesound from the o-2 second range, but yeah i dig the long environment recordings too. on relisten i found this too torturous to bear. it’s been a bete noir but i have kinda sorted it out in the current version.
thanks for the words and ears, mate. i’m off to find what you’ve been up to!
Hi Mr Stokes. I've used Freesound too, tho generally for sound fx. I'll have to delve deeper I can see. This is like a twisted version of something Helios might have done. And man I love a double bass.
i can get with helios! freesound is like another planet i get to explore. i love searching on abstract keywords and sorting results from shortest to longest. lots of the things i plunder are in the under 2 seconds range. mixing these with longer loops is kinda my modus operandi at this time. got a hopefully much better pc i neeed to get running that i hope opens some new doors.
hope all’s well, Chris.
What's up X dope track it has a cinematic feel to it I really like the part after the 3 minute mark when you switched it to trip hop that was pretty dope and cool creative man
this is class work bro, it has sombre chillout feel, things are happening, slowly building, i thought the sun was going to shine through, it didn't, it wasn't supposed to, that bass kept the vibe low, one word in the description, waiting explains perfectly, seeing the transitions you expect it to shine at some stage, there is a couple of little glimmers of penetrating light, you're not selling the sun, this is the calm before the full show is cast with your psychedelic charm added, you captured it Mike, another great production mate
haha man i was a little sick from the forest fire smoke coming down from quebec, it’s been harsh on some of us. damn i feel for them living right near the fires.
i tried tweaking this tune to get a little more blue sky in it as conditions have improved. hope all’s well, my man!
yo Michael!! thats a long time ago.
So you are waiting for the sun?
Come to visit me...enough sun here this period.
This is a real xstokes psychedelic work.
You put every sound his place .
I love that part from 3:20
hi rita, feels like i’ve been underground for a while! i’m lucky tho, i do not have the unbearable heatwave in other parts of the country.
hope you are well and having a good summer!
Sounds like memories from far away and the words come from a glass bottle, the bottom of it. I would have liked to hear more cleary the words and less effects. Maybe next time, what do you say? Sorry, my English is soooo sooo rusty. Glad to see you are o.k. :)
That i didd miss this...beautifull!!!!so sad but so beautifull and that voice is perfect in it.
And when it starts from 1:25 just perfect.
I think this is my favorite Michael!!
Im glad you told me that i didd miss some of your tracks
Hey my dear Mike.
What an asperation my friend.
Your creativity and skill are untouchable and people like myself should only be playing in the Park.
Well done my dear friend.
Maj
Have you ever seen the Mickey Rourke movie Barfly? What a trip. Your use of that word instantly reminded me of a few classic lines in that flick that made me laugh.
Interesting as usual. Dark, sets a mood of despair, deep despair. Well done! Hope you are doing well after listening....he!
Hiya Wayne! I knew using the term barfly would be loaded for certain listeners, haha! I identify, thats for sure — fav scene was stumbling into the wrong apt and raiding the fridge. The real genesis of the song was a matt johnson/the the short film that robin had me watch a year or so ago that opened with a long long take of a damaged individual before launching into this is the day. Can’t find a link to that for some reason.
Anyway, you got every wavelength i aimed for. Thanks from the heart for listening, man!
Hey paul — i’m glad you got the peace i wanted to convey. You know how it goes after one comes to terms after having hard realisations about ones self. You have a special ear, dude and my humble thanks for listening!
Gorgeous dreamy start (reminding me a little of the microphones in tone and mood ... I guess horseshead reminds me of elvrum headless horseman track) but here Im drifting in a tone cathedral ... the beat of the drum loop promises something but it seems I was dreaming and Ive woken now, or was I awake and now fallen vert deeply asleep, either way I want to go back to where I was but cant seem to remember where I was.
Great stuff - It would be nice to build on this and twist, deconstruct and reprise the theme and elements. Aspirational indeed.
Ian! You have made me aware of influences i don’t always pick up on, and you hit it every time. So now along with animal co i gotta get reacquainted with mics!
Thanks for seeing more potential in this. I had a much longer version but lost the thread. This track is the salvaged parts. You do make me think it’s one to revisit, i sincerely appreciate that. Good to see you, man!
Hey Brother Mike
This track is out of this world my dear mike.
How have you been mate?
Unfortunately, on the 3rd of May, I went to the hospital to have a stent put in.
with an hour later I was transported to another hospital for triple bypass ops.
I am recovering at the moment as soon as I'm well I will be back.
See you soon mate.
Maj
Maj! dear friend and fellow survivor, i knew while you were mia that you must be going through some changes, but wow, buddy. i am so glad to hear you are recovering! all of my thoughts are with you at this moment, my friend. good lord, what an experience this life is! a big hug to you, Maj!
hey there, BB! i love that spare but really expressive beat and how well it matches eliot’s own cadence recorded like a hundred years ago. i’m really happy to have your listen, man!

As I listen it has a nice, positive feel to it. Cool changes and nice instrumentation. Some serious low end happening!!
I'm gonna take my Spanish Caravan down to Love Street now, running late, it's Five to One. he!
Take care, keep having musical fun!
