Awesome track. The instrumentals are cool, but I think the percussion is what really stands out for me. They sound very nuanced with little details thrown in here and there which sounds really awesome. I also really like the chilled vibe.
Cool jazz/funk/fusion... track! A gel of influences make me think of early to mid 70's stylized music. The guitar playing has a nice tone and effects on it and the keys and horn work well with it. I think the percussion is sufficient for a beat, hi hats being phased in and out is interesting. Nice mix too!

Nu Jazz would have been called Jazz Fusion back in the day. Many of the R&B groups had a background in Jazz before having funk music hits in the US. Groups like Kool and the Gang, Lakeside, Mandrill, The Commodores and others had a mixture of guys who studied music in college and others who played by ear.
It's kind of ironic that I'm working on 60s music featuring big voiced UK singers (Celia Black, Shirley Bassey, Lulu) and you're channeling some of the hottest throwback USA funk around.

something in a Small Faces stylee. Oh...and don't forget to add Dusty Springfield to that list of yours. Maybe not a 'big voiced' UK singer, but the BEST around at the time.

I'm curious. Did you mean to go this far back? Cause this put me in mind of the stuff I used to cover back in the 70s (Herbie Hancock, Mandrill) I've got a few Young-Holt Unlimited LP's with this type of extended groove.

I call it urban groove, but I think I prefer Nu Jazz....is there such a genre. I've got something similar that I might post next, that is very similar, but more jazzy...I think. I've only just joined this place, so I'm just feeling my way around atm. Still not sure what is the best way/place to post my work to get the best exposure.
So any advice would be most welcome.
I agree that it needs that 'updated' tweak. I'm hoping to get a vocalist/lyricist interested, so I've left plenty of room, and just left it as verse/chorus, hoping that the lyrics/vocal will lead to, or suggest, where some sort of breakdown should be. Then there's mixing and production, so loads of time yet for that tweak....

But dang, this is full of old skol touches. Sliding bass line, wah wah guitar, clavinet? sounds, Okay, this needs Norman Whitfield, STargaard (Which Way is Up whoa whoa whoa Owww) type harmonies.
But its still gotta have that updated touch. Hmmm. LEmme think.
