you just get better and better. don't worry too much about travis he's the eternal critic. but i agree with visionz about the track sounding a little boxy, he's told me the same thing, but that's only minor.
gud shit bro, keepm comin

Thanks!!! BTW how are things in oz? Thanks for turning me on to spor and ewun! I think I see what you guys are saying about it being boxy, there are no real high highs or low lows. Like it needs a frequency expansion. Any ideas? Thanks bro!

Other than the bass being a little too heavy (in my opinion), I thought this was a damn good DnB track. Boy, I wish to God I could figure out how you guys do these!? Lots of talent! PEACE.

The only real trick I have is the reece bass: it consists of 3 Malstrom synths, saw wave with the oscillators tuned about 35 cents from the root key in a combinator (working in reason), run into distortion (scream 4) and phaser effects. After I record some midi, I duplicate the combinator putting this one through a Low pass with the low end really juiced up. Other then that, just tweaking and playing. Thanks for listening

The reece is nice but you are lacking a sub bass. The drums need lots of work.
---------------
What I meant to say is that you lack a sub bass it is just a sine wave that it deep. You would hear what I mean in my track called "PhazTek."
satyriasis
satyriasis replied Unknown
Really? The last review said there was too much sub bass. Yeah there is a lot of work in store for this track, stay tuned!!

In my opinion without drums this song would have been perfect. It's almost funny that i dislike nearly all alividlife likes. This song deserves many listens despite of the drums. But perhaps it's only me who gets annoyed by them.
satyriasis
satyriasis replied Unknown
Maybe I should make a copy without drums for ya. I gave it a listen "sans beats" and it seems to lack structure. But that is just me. Thanks for the reviews guys!!

Those claps sounded sooo midiclaps. In my opinion you should replace them with another percussive (midi)things. You've had enormous job to do all the midi events of the background voicings. The melody line remids me of Oliver Messiaen's scales.

I am biased and partial to in your face drums, and I almost wished they were louder.

But I think the drums being subdued, really accented that subtle work in there, and was surprised how well this worked out for you. I would have tried to make people's ears bleed. (yes even in down-tempo lol)

Great synth/violin sounds. I really enjoyed the lines those sounds were making, the texture of the Highs and Lows.

BY FAR MY FAVORITE PART IS THAT PANNING GUITAR!! or is that cello?
Amazing sound right there under the rhythm, really MAKES this track, could it be made maybe just a smidgen louder? just a db? perhaps? I think it being more apparent would draw more curiosity, and would not deter the listener to the track as a whole.

Either way, Love it

Favorite.

I actualy liked the drums in the intro, but there's some major tempo issues with the vo x fx in there, maybe you intended it? Well there's distortion on it a wee bit to much you cant really play this loud ion a PA set mate. Try removing the plugin completely or just tone it down. Also the kick is not cutting through the mix the ambiance is over powering that area of 100Hz , so try to EQ that out. Side chaining can work if you use it on the kick though, but as a rule of thumb try not to use samples that occupy the same frequency mate. Please read this

it might be helpful to you.Remember this is my opinion and I am no pro yet but one can hear when something is not in place, feel free to comment on my tracks to.It's all about improving mate.

Thank you for the detailed review!!!!! This is really what I love, a good honest helpful review!!! I bookmarked the page, and I will be making changes. I have absolutely no experience mixing tracks down or mastering, in fact I really don't even know what that means. I just got near field monitors, but I am still shooting in the dark as far as knowing what I am doing. I will have to shoot you an email, and if you are inclined, please give me some help! And thank you for listening!!!!!!!

Sounds cool on my EMU PM5s, I have not listened to much drum and bass until I joined here it certainly opens you up to all types of music, thought it was a great track I could not sit still to it.
Well Done

This song is pretty diffrent as well but i liked it. I think the think with DnB tracks is they all sound pretty clean and i don't like that so much. This track had a nice dirty beat and some nice cutting/chopping. The vocal loop makes it sound eastern or something. If i could change something, it would be not to make the vocals fade out at the end of the loop, near the beginning, i think it would sound better if they cut straight. Overall nice work!

Thank you! I promise that I will never subject you guys to anything that isn't, at least somewhat, different. This track is about a friend of mine in the military in Iraq. I had been watching a bunch of first person videos about the combat there which inspired me to make him a tune. As far as the vocal fade, That was something I added that I am not really jiving with myself. Thanks for reminding me, and listening!!

This track is quite different from a lot of others on the site. But in a good way. The initial melody sort of puts you on edge and stays like that the whole way. I think if i had a suggestion it would to change the synth bass, at least initially, because it has quite a 'hard' sound in contrast to the gentle piano. Maybe reduce the attack or change to more of a sine-wave, but then again it also feels kind of in place! i liked it best at about 4 minutes. Good song!

Thank you!! I am glad the edginess came through. I like creating sounds/buildups/tracks that may seem timid but really have a completely opposite side. To put it a couple words "yin-yang". I will be editing the way the bass comes in. I will repost sometime soon. Thanks for listening!

Yes, this reminds me of top notch Amon Tobin stuff, absolutely love the glitch work in this, the change ups and breaks - all very cool. How did you do your glitch stuff? I've realy wanted to try some of that but could never get it as good as this stuff! All in all I like this one a lot - download - now!

Thanks a lot!!! I used a few beat repeat effects and an effect preset called Electricity in ableton, tweaked a little. If you liked this check out the 080725 track, its packed with glitchy goodness. You have some phenomenal tracks as well. We should collab on something!
