Greetings.

Dave said it well. Pretty impressed with the vocal effects and they're effectiveness. Drums tone and writing fit the music really well, which can be hard to do. Swelling, atmospheric throbbing under ballsy vocals.
Good stuff, I dig it.

Take care.

Well sorry but I've got to say it like it is..This is (as they say) DOPE!....Very convincing groove people, excellent bass tone and you've got that angst ridden vocal line down without distorting or obliterating the message, it's also got a very cool contemporary vibe to it, not some run of the mill predictable and hackneyed rock beat, would have like a longer version with maybe some guitar soloing, but hey that's not a criticism, really enjoyed the track fellas, you guys rock!!!

Awesome track guys! Those guitars kicked some serious ass. The mix sounds solid too. It's a Fav and downloaded. Truly nice work.

I like the vibe but I agree with Danke. Not a fan of the guitar tones and the mix. I am a huge fan of Guitar Rig by Native. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/guitar-rig-5-pro/

Well worth it in my opinion. It is my go to guitar VST.
Lots of Promise here. Just needs to be fleshed out.

Hey guys

With peace in my heart I ask you, you like this guitar tune???
This could be a sensational number with another guitar voices...Amplitube 3 for example could give you 1000 choices for clean, dry, understanable, heavy tune...but if your best way, delete my comment somehow...:-)

Handshake, Danke

No, we are not happy with the tone of the guitars :( We def need to get our shit together. We just get drunk and write/record right now nothing too serious. Mainly having fun but of course we would like to get the mix badass eventually. Any help would be appreciated.

I was rocking out!!! The music is great, the vocal tone is great, but I agree with Mykael not to veer off on the vocals. Other than that... solid work!!! :)

I absolutely love this tune! It is pretty solid as far as rock music goes. My only suggestion would be to redo your vocals being careful not to veer off key without overthinking it, if that is even possible, LOL. Well done!

Thank you for the positive feedback Mykael! Much appreciated bud! I think this comment alone has re-inspired us to get a rework on the vocals in this weekend. Will update with new recordings soon :)

No Fuck-ups!

Demo or not, this is great shit!

Yeah, the guitars are maxed and aweful, but its a fantastic capture. So, as a demo, I doubt you want to hear about the tone and shit. Therefore, I shall merely say that I dig it deeply. Can't wait to hear it done up right! Dig the lyrics.

Haha,"No fuck ups"

To be completely honest most of our songs and 100% of our demos are two best friends of 20 years getting drunk as fuck, avoiding family duties on the weekends and writing one take shit that we may or may or come back and refine. At this point we are just having fun and writing.

We hella appreciate the fact that you some feedback dude! Please leave feedback on more! Would love to hear what people think of our "songs" :)

Vocals need to be brought up in the mix and I agree with thrilledburst. Some parts are off key and need to be addressed. Other than that not a bad start. I assume you are going to extend this.

I agree dude. Singing isnt our strong point at this time lol, coming up with lyrics and melodies no problem but the actual singing needs help for sure. Would love to post extended versions of all our songs but the 10MB limit to file size negates alot of the good stuff. Thanks for taking the time to leave some feeback, much appreciated.

Some parts of the vocals are a bit off-key, so I think the vocals need more work, but the instrumental is great!

Yeah getting the vocals spot on have been an issue for us, would be nice to find an amazing singer that would fit our vibe but that is a tough thing to do. Really glad you dig the music though, biggest part for us. Thanks for the feedback man!

All instruments were live except the drums. The distortion is from a Boss DS1 pedal.

Hi again.

Good luck with those stems you're giving to other people. I saw those offers of help before.

I'm mostly just replying to say: "Do you really know me?"

I've never heard of Dopetracks so perhaps you've got me confused with another Static. Or Nomad. Or maybe even another Static Nomad.

"Glad you are diggin it man"

I do and I know it can be be better and suspect it will turn out that way.

Hello.

This is pretty good stuff, with some vibe and attitude.

I definitely agree with other comments about the drums lacking clarity and being too low in the mix. However, this actually provides a certain interesting vibe and I quite like the power of the guitars and their buzzing tone.

I can actually hear the vocals really well and don't think the guitars interfere with them. This sounds better the more I listen to it.

So, I'd say it's mostly just a drum problem.

2:15 is the biggest drum problem. They really need to break out in that guitar solo section.

Otherwise, you have a good track so best of luck with it.

StaticNomad,..long time no see buddy.
Last time I seen you we were posting on Dopetracks lol.
(which officially shut down June 2nd)

Anyways,..Im gonna work out the stems to be sent out to a couple other fellow loopers that offered a hand at the mix.
So ill be clearing out all effects/levels and such and give it a fresh start.

Glad you are diggin it man and I appreciate the kind words. Thank you.

Hey, if you can send me the stems to the music, I can try mixing it for you? And tell you what I do in the process. Send me the raw files (no EQing, or compression, nothing) at epicrecordmusic@gmail.com if you're interested.

That would be fantastic. Ill email the raw stems over in a day or two,..gonna take me a little time to get it all together and organized for you. May end up being several emails due to size limitations. Thanks for the willingness to lend a hand much appreciated.

OK so I recorded a jam track for you as an example. I am of course aware that the style is way different but the mixing concepts are the same.
Mixed as follows:
First I rolled the treble off the chords and the Bass off the lead.
Then panned slightly left and right.
I used 2 send effects; Delay and Reverb, with opposite amounts on each track. A lot of reverb on the chords and a little delay; a lot of Delay on the lead and a little reverb.
Try this trick with whatever send effects you use.
Also I pumped up the sends in the send effects, sending reverb to delay and vice versa, then panned the effects pretty hard left and right. In retrospect I should have panned them in the opposite direction (i.e.; so the effect with the most chords send was opposite to the side the chords were panned. I have gone back and done that in the recording software and it's better. You get the idea though right?)
I might try recording some Bass and Drums to go with this then chop the tracks up and see what I can come up with. Recently bought a set of V-Drums.
Anyway here it is;

From what I am hearing, the guitars are taking up too much room in the mix. They drown out the drums to the point where I barely notice them. They also make it difficult to focus in on the vocals. As mentioned, subtractive EQ is your friend. A neat trick with subtractive EQ to make something stand out (the vocals in this case) would be to make a somewhat narrow EQ curve to boost & sweep through the frequency range of the guitars. Pay close attention to what frequencies are masking the vocals the most and cut them until you can clearly hear the vocals. Also, if you are using any kind of stereo or phase delay on the guitars, try toning it down a bit. In comparison to the rest of the track, the guitars sound really wide. In addition to this, your track might benefit from widening the higher frequencies of your drum kit.

Finally, if you aren't using a reference track, try pulling one into your session and use that for comparison and making informed decisions about the frequency range of each sound. If you'd like, you can send me a copy of your files and I'll make a rough mix for you to use as a reference!

I would really appreciate if you would like to take a stab at the mix. Ive worked on mostly hip hop and electronic based music so the guitar/rock production is new to me and my partner doesnt mess with anything on the mixing aspect so having another set of producers ears would be most excellent.

What is your email?

Oh and by EQ I mean subtractive, not boosting. That will only add to your problems. Carve out some space for each voice/instrument across the range of frequencies. Take the treble out of the Bass and the Bass out of the guitars etc.
TheParadigms
TheParadigms replied 11th Jun 2015 - 10 years ago
Excellent point with the subtractive eq. TY

OK Main observation is that everything is fighting for the same sonic real estate. And I mean Everything. Vocals, guitar, Bass and can hardly hear the drums. My suggestion would be to use some EQ on each part. Decide where to put each in the EQ range ( and possibly stereo field)
Compression has been mentioned already
