Hay man, nice snare. Id try layering some claps with a lot of reverb low in the mix, maybe with some sample delay/chorus to give it width too. I thought the atmosphere in the intro was sweet, the transition at 0.48 ish was abit too sharp though.. try fading out the end of the samples too ease the transition or some delay/reverb. Hope this helped dude, keep it up.

Yo dude, like your attention to detail drums wise. Like the little hats or the bongo's which btw pins the groove down nicely. I also liked the way you automated the flanger effect on the beat every 8 bars or whatever. Id say add some more one shot hits/effects & stereo interest basically. And i think you should improve the atmospheric sweep style synth, did you use albino 3 for that? It sounds a bit thin. Try using some chords or just layering up different octaves in the midi. Btw, i thought the bassline was sick too. Big up! :)

Yo man, cool to hear that your implementing other sounds as apose to just strictly bass noises. Like the strings or whatever they actually sound sweet. Id say defiantly stick to layering your bass's up with instruments like that. Make sure your using the same note as your bass though or using chords that compliment your bass note. Or write a chord progression first and then simply use the root note of each chord for your bassline. Id say another thing if you dont mind man, is make sure your kick and snare are good samples to start off with, because the kick is what pins the whole track down. Big up.

Love the arp like synth that is panning left/right.. it reminds me of the ''gator'' feature in Albino 3.

Yea I have focused on sound design pretty much all the way up to now and I'm very satisfied with the quality of my sounds, it's just the mixing that gets me apart.

So anyway yea on my next track I'm going to make everything but the drums quieter and sidechain the sub. I already keep my kick and snare at -8 dB so I'll just lower everything else. I thought everything was at a good volume but okay.

on Chipstep by Skyhunter
I wouldn't cut the kick in that way. Because the sub wont just be at 50hz. [Depending on what notes you are using. F to A are nice and bassy. But i would defiantly do sidechain like you said dude! Sidechaining is a necessity in my productions, even if its a small amount. I do it to my bussed synths too.

Thats kool man.. do you use any other form of networking? Soundcloud? Facebook?
Skyhunter
Skyhunter replied Unknown
I did have a facebook, but that never really caught on. I have a soundcloud though,

http://soundcloud.com/o-a-e

Do you have one? I would like to follow you!

And okay, I will definitely try sidechaining rather then cutting everything around 50 hz from the sub. Thanks so much!

on Chipstep by Skyhunter
Well id be careful with the sub. The sub takes up so much of the headroom of the track. If you push it too far, there wont be enough room for the rest of the stuff. I say more importantly get the sub hitting the right frequencies.. thats important more so than the level. Use an analyser to make sure its at around 50 hz. & thats fine man, honestly. If you/anyone who reads this and needs any help, just pm me or whatever, and il try my best to help! :).
Skyhunter
Skyhunter replied Unknown
Oooooh I get it, I was once told to cut a very small bandwidth at 50 hz to make room for the kick.

What if I used sidechain compression on the sub, so when the kick hits the sub ducks slightly to make room for the kick's low frequencies?

And thanks, it's a big help! I still feel new to this production stuff, even though I'm closing in on a year.

When i heard those really wide Square wave sounding synths, i thought it was going to kick into some melodic urban influenced dubstep like a artist called ''Joker''. With a fat sawtooth, tonnes of glide, tonnes of bass. Your on the right tracks with some of your synths id say man. Also, the piano/synth melody is really nice.

Id say the idea/structure is there. With the sound fx and the epic build up. Kick/Snare should arguably be the focal point. They get a bit lost, try turning others things down so it appears louder, or turn them up. Just get the drums peaking around -10Db. That will set the level. Then work the rest around them. You should try a better sub too. What are you using to mixdown on?
Skyhunter
Skyhunter replied Unknown
I mix on cheap hi fi headphones. :(

Okay so I need to make the drums louder. I assume you are talking about the ones in the drop, or just in general? I used to drum sets, an old school white noise set then my other drum set I normally use. I think I'll render the drums as loops then, so I can better balance them.

Okay so I will also make the sub louder. I only use the sub every so often as a rhythmic element, I usually keep it at -10 dB, I'll go a little louder next time.

Thanks for the help, I really, really appreciate it! :D

The idea is utter brilliance. & i was going to comment on the vocal sample at the start but i guessing from your reply that done that? Thats mad, I played around with vocals a little with 'voice transformer' in logic but i haven't managed to get that sound.
DyeVerse
DyeVerse replied Unknown
HELL YA!! thank you for that review... i dont think people realize that it wasnt easy coming up with an idea for a song that has never been done before in hip hop. as far as the devil voice.. ijust applies a pitch filter over one of the secondary vocal tracks and pitched it way, way low... :)

Ive Never Really Hada Go at a dark, atmospheric tune.. but i like most of widdlers stuff.

I like that patch with the dimesion expander on or whatever that comes in at 32 seconds mate, ive allways tried to make something like that (Y) reminds me of Tomb raider on the ps1 for some reason lmfao.

Id add more bits of percussion in there, eg. little clicks, claps, snares and shakers, to build abit more of an scene, like the sorta samples that, you dont even realise they are in there until you play it back three times lmao :)
celestial1157
celestial1157 replied Unknown
yeah i get what you mean homie.

yeah i jam widdler, caspa, rusko, n-type, ooah, benga.
all that dubstep music.

for that "tomb raider" sound, i used a Sytrus ambience pad for it.

and i get what you mean about addin extra nitches and percussions. i know it needs more fullness to it, i just cant find the right percussion sounds.
i have been looking EVERYWHERE.

but all in all, thanks for the review. much appreciated!
