Hi Mark, nice to hear from you again. What an amazing beat you've put on here... you're simply masterful at it. I love these bass/guitar unisons, like everything else. I've listened several times to follow one of the instruments in particular, and every time it's just crazy how you bring it all together. It usually frustrates me when I try to play any wind instruments with VST, because so far I've found that they always sound artificial, apart from maybe some flutes. But here with you it's completely different... especially with the saxophone I was really amazed at how natural you sounded. All in all, another first-class listening experience!
Micky! It's always a pleasure for you to stop in and share your highly respected viewpoint. Thanks for the compliments on what you heard. The groove here started as inspiration that quickly turned into a fiery motivation. Everything just flowed easily. I suggest for some decent less midi sounding but pretty much mix ready brass Try Kontakt 7. You won't be disappointed. The brass library is huge, and you can go from cinematic to orchestral or full-blown stratospheric Jazz. The sax is my personal favorite. As I've mentioned before, your work is awesome! Thanks for the inspiration, Mickey. Peace.
Hello Chasmchaser, this is a very well done track, with a nice structure. I particularly liked the use of the guitars, which make the whole thing sparkle even more. The background actually suggests something spiritual, at least that's how I perceive it. I'm looking forward to more of this... Peace, Micky
Hey BaoBou, cool track, nice drum sound. It's a little different than your previous material, but also definitely worth listening to. I like your singing, your voice more and more. And your guitar work is convincing as always. Cheers, Micky
This is another nice track from you. Electronic seems to be totally your thing. I would be interested to see how the track comes across with a cool video... somehow I associate it with a street chase scene. Mentalo says: keep going!
Hi Steve, man, what a trip. Please tell me you didn't actually play the guitar... otherwise I'd probably be jealous LOL. For someone who didn't consciously live through these decades, this must seem like a documentary. What complex work... big compliment! Enjoyed it very much. Cheers, Micky
Wow, the sound is so bombastic and crystal clear... you can hardly sit still. This would definitely be a hit in clubs. The percussion on the sides is very nice, these kind of tambourines. The economical use of the voices, the gentle guitar on the strong beat... very nice. I would say a successful comeback... Cheers, Micky
Hi Bederis, sounds good, very rough, a little psychedelic, almost cinematic. Although maybe a little overdriven in some places, but that could just be me. It's very difficult for me to say anything about it, because everything everyone does here is ultimately about art. And I think it's almost impossible to judge whether something is good or bad, because in the end it's completely subjective and purely a matter of taste. The most you could say is that a track may not correspond to a particular style because the known characteristics are missing, but with your track everything is open. So it is entirely up to your own judgment whether you are satisfied with your work or not. It's really the best way to keep your track in rotation here long enough to find out how it resonates with people. In any case, keep going! Cheers, Micky
Hi Mike, The track is psychedelic in the truest sense, but could also be classified as ambient. Some productions in this genre feel like they're too rational, but this one sounds really organic and lived-in. Your great musicality shines through here and takes you into it. It's great how you designed these rooms. There's something electrifying in there that reminds me a little of Brian Eno. I've heard this several times now and it actually gets more interesting each time. Very, very nice work.. Greetings from the hangar, Micky
true thanks for the thoughts, Mickey! im so gratified when you said lived-in cuz this was a struggle over many sleepless nights! i think someone once said something like if there wasnt an eno, man would have invented one. his music runs thru my veins! looking forward to your next expedition!
Hello Mark, how wonderful is this track. It's so full of events that I was on the hunt for the entry the whole time. It's a mystery to me how one achieves something like this. Every single element is pure joy. At times I thought of certain Zappa recordings, and at other times Airto came to mind. One of my favorite albums of all time is IDENTITY by AIRTO MOREIRA, and somehow something from that came along too. I can't say much about it technically because I don't have the basics, but this much is certain: I thoroughly enjoyed the track and will definitely listen to it several more times to be able to grasp everything. Hats off, master!
Hey Micky. Thank you for stopping by and sharing how this one sounds so far. Zappa? WOW! Airto? I first heard him with Eumir Deodato on "Super Strut" years ago. See, when you're exposed to that level of musicianship, it sticks! And yes, please keep tabs on the progress. Peace.
Hi BaoBou, well first of all, this is a nice track and the lyrics and instrumental work are great. You're asking for suggestions as to where this could go. Man, that's really hard to say. My very personal, totally subjective thought was to maybe not let the drum beat go through the entire track, but only start it after about half. I liked the end with the last foursome, where only the piano and voice can be heard, and maybe the track should start like that... then the bass added in the second verse, etc. because there is also this build-up in the lyrics. The end could be a little longer instrumental, i.e. without any lyrics, so that what is said can sink in a little for the listener. But like I said, just a thought from me. You would have to try it out to see if it would work like that. Either way... The track is very beautiful the way it is. Cheers, Micky
I assume that you play the drums here... great class. And the whole track is amazing! I've worked with Patricia's accapellas myself and I have to tell you, you did it flawlessly here.
I haven't heard from you in a long time. I came across this track of yours by chance and I have to say, it's really great. Super good idea, this combination, especially the pitched voice of Lou Rawls... I wonder why you didn't put this track in the Looperman featured tracks carousel. Lots of people listened and some downloaded, but not a single comment. How come?
Ah thanks! Glad you felt the funk. Love making funky grooves. Your stuff is amazing! Always dug the space funk instrumentals and you guys are quite excellent. Do you have anything out on other platforms? Guy
Hi Dennel, nice, relaxed atmosphere on this one... perfect for a short vacation at home. You grab your favorite drink and sit on the balcony... even if just for 4:07 minutes (I almost cynically said a glass of water, in case you have free access to it). I'm not sure, but in my opinion the bass is very much in the foreground, but considering the title you probably mixed it that way on purpose. Anyway...this is a wonderful track! Yep, enjoyed it.
Hello Star Travels, Thank you for stopping by and listening to my new track. Wow, the imagery that you conjured up almost have me believing I'm on a tropical island somewhere lol! And yes you're perception is correct, the bass is up front in the mix. Well... you know what they say about us bass players? Pretty much like guitarist, gotta get all the attention lol! No but really most drum & bass or reggae tunes are "bass heavy." Anyway thanks again for listening and for your wonderful review, much appreciated. Glad that you enjoyed it
Not many people manage to combine such completely electronic sounds into something organic and lively. I'd say you've done a wonderful job here. Very nice! Cheers, Micky
Sounds interesting, but I have the same problem as Rita... I don't know the genre enough to be able to say whether this overdriven kick is really desired or whether it's just not leveled out properly. I would scale it back a bit... Greetings, Micky
Excellent. While listening to it, I thought of that "girl" with that towering hairstyle that walks around so strangely in Mars Attacks. The track is, as always, fascinating and frightening at the same time. Well, a very nice kind of scary. Good job. Cheers, Micky
Good grief, you're really shaking things up in the music industry. Snoop already told me the news... what is he supposed to do now, given this massive competition? However, Elon is currently back in therapy... I don't think he's doing so well because he's said to have heard about the STAR TRAVELS fleet's ability to reach other universes... One thing is certain: you're on your own way. Experimenting is good... that's the only way to move forward. Keep on rockin. Cheers, Micky
hahaha, great comment Micky, you have a creative mind like me. its so good to see another artist fly with the skit, Elon got big problems man he seriously annoyed by StarTravels successful launches into the wonders of the universe, he DM'd me 3 in the morning saying what do i have to do to compete, all in block capitals too, he was angry, the bloody leutienents gone AWOL and the captain flys solo and STILL get better success than me, i said im in bed you weird b*stard buy his f#cking ship then you gonna need to pay 100 billion though you rich TWIT now stop stalking me, i dont care how much you will give me your not F#cking collab with me, BoomBoom Rita would be pissed with me ask Snoop for god's sake catch up when your back on terra firma
Oh yes, we've encountered a few crazy aliens too... but these seem to be more of the friendly kind. You wouldn't believe how they party...until you see it for yourself, wouldn't you. Seriously....this is a very uplifting track, with super nice sounds, cleanly produced and it just gives off super good vibes! Well done Alien!
Hello, this is absolutely adorable. Somehow Lucia Whong came to mind, but maybe that's culturally obvious. The percussion is really outstanding and the overall impression is just stunning. For me, it inevitably evokes scenes in the mind... I think you've mastered your subject! Big compliment! Warm greetings, Micky
Hey Mark, did I hear the flash of the Twilight Zone theme? Man, this band plays so beautifully free and easy... who are all these people? ;) Hats off, bows, thanksgiving, praise, homage... take your pick! Micky
Micky! Good ear! Yep, that sax run @ 0:41 is definitely in the Twilight Zone. Thank you so much for stopping by and giving this one a listen. Your compliments and fave is the indicator I'm headed in the right direction. What you mentioned in a previous post is true about the question "if the tracks we make will be enjoyable for others". You be safe and have a relaxing and peaceful weekend.
Hi Cru I'm really happy here that I'm not particularly familiar with genres. I'm probably stupid enough to just always consume music happily 1:1. So: it's Halloween and I got goosebumps: Bravo!!! Masterful!
Hey Paul, it's really nice to see how you have gradually found a style in which you can express yourself in the last two years. You are always 100 percent authentic ... that is by no means a matter of course these days. This track is another example of that. However, I hope it won't be my liver that you enjoy with a glass of good old Bordeaux ;) .... Keep it up!!! Cheers, Micky
thanks for that great comment Micky, i am happy with my new found style, but im at my happiest just creating. all the spite ive been showing is to the haters only, the people that dont add to our community, you and Rob are a big part of our community whether its your solos or as Star Travels, i would never disrespect to our players, ive been listening to you lot from the very start of my music journey and learnt so much from you all
It seems you've had a near-death experience before, maybe. I think the track conveys that well. Might be part of a whole series... To me it's an absolutely interesting piece of music. Good work.
it is for sure a part of a series, an album titled blackstar... turn it down, turn it over but you can't help to resist it's bittersweet friend, realize you're no longer alive and all you do is pretend... what a great fucking world to not live forever... if only
