Great tone and bright mix. I need to be exploring the chillout genre. Nice chromatic movement in the high pitched "west coast" synth. Great highs (almost too bright).
Faved. Keep it up. If you have collaborative ideas, let me know.
Hello BoD, well, you know how it is with choosing the right genre term on Looperman. I couldn't have said beforehand what style of music I understand this track to be ... But you have to make a choice and that's how it became Chill Out. Maybe we should really contact the LM administrators and suggest more genres. (Space Funk would be one...)
thank you very much bringerofDoom :) it´s hard work to get to this crappy vox level. i smoked the hell out of my bong and a little oil helped too. i was in heaven , just laying on ground to record this.
Paz y salud.
Haha ... I guess that must be our dear friend Joseph Polchinski. Astounding result, isn't it?
You can create equations like that and calculate anything, but the idea that you travel and travel and never ever come to an end anywhere is kind of unworkable, isn't it?
My (Micky's) favourite riddle is the double slit experiment which has literally triggered a complete philosophy in me. I think it would be worth trying to implement something like this musically (oh man - what delusions of grandeur).
Anyway - thanks for listening and your, as always, much appreciated comment ...
The drums are definitely D&B, the melodic and harmonic elements have a synthwave feel to them. Nice use of autotuned harmonies in the vox. I feel like I need to be driving an 80s Ferrari.
Thanks, bringer! I call shotgun!! I'll bring the shades and some iced tea and we can truly make this an 80's nostalgia party lol. I didn't realize it before, but now that you mentioned it, this track really does sound synth-wave-ish. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it.
Yeah the beginning lead was a definite needed touch, and was executed pretty much spot on. The hats are definitely bright at first, but that could be due to a master compressor bringing them out when there is not much else happening. They dip back once everything gets going. I believe I'm hearing ducking in several sources, but I could be wrong, and if so it is not a bad thing. I like the feel of the "pressure increase" of side-chained percussion and occasionally bass as long as it is subtle.
Regardless of any nitpicking, sounds excellent, Already faved.
bringer, Thanks for your stop and listen. The first go-around had plenty of spare musical real estate and DISCIPLINE touched that spot just right. I switched the drum kit to move this forward in a grand fusion style with a punch but balance the present swing which the hats acted as a metronome of sorts. I'm working on perfecting this technique. The only thing I ducked was the bass triggered by the kick. Maybe what you're hearing is a kick-beater effect I'm using.TTYL
Since it's a WIP, definitely hearing some singing lead in the beginning (almost pink floyd esque), and about the time I imagined a "doubled-up" sax solo you pretty much did it. I'm liking the spacy synths as well. The chord changes (ii, III, i), got me thinking about the 2-5-1 jazz staple, and a bunch of other theory stuff.
bringer, yeah I'm still stretching out a bit. I'm grateful for this listen from you and for bringing out your observations on musical notation and harmonic rhythm which is always a plus for me. You know refresher course on theory! I'm glad that this one too got a fav. TTYL.
M.T.
I did not expect the change at 1:20, good ideas here.
The degree of distortion you have put on the "808" diminishes it's ability to be picked up on my subs. You may want to consider listening to this in a car, or a stereo with subs. Studio headphone may not give you the information you need (due to a lack of "airspace").
Also, when the swells come in (later in the track) it looks like you may have too much total volume causing clipping distortion. Dialing the tracks back to -6 to -18 dB will help Maximus run better (if you are using it). Let the compression/saturation increase the perceived loudness, instead of relying on volume.
Just a couple things, I'm no expert. Good ideas with this track; I like the synth twist on typical trap.
It's the bonus track. Every once in a while a MP3 will be silent for 10 or 15 minutes, then something like this would pop up. Ahh the hey day of the CD...
Not a mess.
Hey, since you have the balls to sing I should send you a backing track or something.
Ha yeah I remember a few of those. Sometimes they were the best tracks on the album. Not sure I'd call what I do singing, specially on this one it's pretty flat in places. The whole thing was improv and spontaneous and only got done cause wife and kids were away and I got up to mischief. Anyway, welcome to send me something that would be cool.
Excellent production quality. Particia's vocals are on point, and therefore pretty fun to work with. Good musicianship all around. I like the waltz, don't hear them much because they are hard to snap in FLStudio :D
Definitely on point. I worked with a few acapellas and I'm constantly shifting or modifying and stretching or cutting, but not hers. Plug and play baby!
Sounds like jammin to me. Makin it up on the fly. That's the most fun way to go anyway. That that hat clamp is relentless. This is like some of that "dark jazz" from 2012ish (a tiny sort lived genre I wanted to bring back). Nice vox towards the end.
Nice bass tone. Great transition. Nice guitar chords and little riffs with the brass swells. Nice pleasant mix. Good use of compression on the kick (I'm assuming, it seems the master is ducking, but I could be wrong). Good use of subtle percussion throughout.
Nice melodic variation and use of harmony. Even though the melody was revisited it wasn't really repeated, which is difficult to do. The rock beat could've used a fill or two, but good work overall.
Felices fiestas hermano. Paz y salud en el mundo.
You don't need theory to "sound good." You could sound good faster, but also gum up the works with too much education (rules), so it's a double edge sword.

Watched the first video and was easy enough. Will be watching the rest as well. That is a good channel, definitely going to watch more of it. Thanks for the link bringer. She's got more videos I'm also interested in. Wish LM had a discord server. Would be so much easier to have these types of discussions.
So the chords that the layers creates in the beginning causes a major 6th interval (The B in NBC), which is super tastey. So, is the volume swelling automation, LFO, or did you mute the kick but let the compression keep going. It's the right degree of "ear tickling."
bringer, I might like some effects when I hear them but I have no idea what that would be called. I just punch in chords that I like from a vst like tonespace and chordz to help me out and work around it. I truly wish I know what I was doing music theory wise like you do.
So I either use filter sweeps or level automation. But if you are referring to the pumping effect with the kick, that is the lfo cutting off the instruments group with the kick. I sometimes use a compressor but I find I get more clicks that way than with LFO Tool. I'm sure you might have heard of the lfo tool vst.
Thank you so much for your comment. You always seem to lift my spirits. ;)
