Yeah Chris, that is getting better. Your percussion loops still get out of tempo at times.... Remember "snap to the grid" with your loops and samples. The synth work is good, I like your vocal stuff in this track and the other one as well. It actually has some what of a structure musically (applause applause applause).... good for you. It kind of has an ABCA format, so the recap at the end when you bring the A section back really closes the track up nicely and gives it a finish. It also makes it far more interesting to listen to than a minimal track that doesn't develop at all. I think at times there are too many things going on in the track which makes it really muddy and garbled but there are points in the track that are really quite nice. A great art composition still not much of a dance track, but if you wanted it to be an art composition... you nailed it. Chris, I would suggest writing your own drum and percussion tracks rather than looping samples of somebody elses work. As a composer, you will get more satisfaction from the composition as a whole if it was all composed by you. Plus writing your own drum and percussion tracks I'm sure would solve your "rushing" and "dragging" problems with the percussion. It's exciting.... remember when we were writing the percussion tracks to "The Last Sunset" and how adding different patterns changed the feel of it... Plus using a drum kit program also eliminates the sound quality differences in the looped samples you use. Keep up the good work buddy.

Well Chris, I can see others stand in agreement with me regarding your composition skills. First let me start out saying that this track is a major improvement over the intial tracks you sent to me when you first came up to the house. Major...and good for you...however, AudioTsunami is correct, and I have told you this before...your samples and loops, many of times, fall out of rhythm and tempo. You need to work with a program that will allow you to enter your chosen loops and samples into the program that will stretch the sample or loop into the BPM of the track...it's called "Snapping it to the grid". This will keep your syncopations in tempo and keep them from "rushing" or "dragging" throughout the track. Right now, it sounds like a bunch of 3 year olds banging on pots and pans in the kitchen with no rhyme or reason. Daveyjonesmusic is also correct and we have talked about this before. Your track needs musical structure. That is why I gave you that music book from my music theory 1 class in college. Giving your song a beginning middle and end is what it needs....an ABA sonata format perhaps. Finally, both AudioTsunami and Daveyjonesmusic are correct again, you do need to work on your production techniques. Compression, limiting, EQ's. I have another book you can borrow,... you can't have it, I only have one copy but it's called Electronic Music Synthesis. Another book from my music major college days you will find helpful. All in all Chris, it was a much better attempt than your previous tracks you sent me. You know if you were in New York City, late 70's Early 80's writing music for some freaked out, progressive, modern dance troop wearing f**ked up costumes, doing f**ked up tribal modern dance shows in some way off Broadway artsy farsty theater, this track would have nailed it on the head....it reminded me of some of the stuff I would hear at some of these modern dance recitals, however, if you want this to be a club track played by DJ's...you need to keep working on it. I'll see ya when I back from my tour in June.

Keep it Up

Ciao,
Tony DiAngelo
