Music often transcends words when it comes to emotions. There are some problems with the mixing and mastering in this track that I could let you know my opinion about, but if it were me that made it, I wouldn't listen anyway, because I'd rather not go through and try and polish the raw emotion I was feeling at the time.
Glad you can feel it, i wondered if i was conveying the emotion properly.
You are definitely right about the mixing and mastering, before i knew anything about it i would compress everything to high heaven and pump everything way to loud. I have wanted to go back and remaster for a long time now but it just hasn't happened. Perhaps now you reviewing will give me the motivation.
Man, it's like metal is in Norway's blood. This is a really cool track, bad ass riffs, and cool changes. The drums need better mixing, and the guitars could be separated a little more (maybe eq one differently than the other), also I can't hear a bass line, I don't know if there is any, so if there is, it needs to be brought way up, and if there isn't, you need one! This track is so cool, an epic bass line would be just the thing it needs.
I usually can't wrap my head around these fusion type tracks enough to enjoy them, but this is an exception. I like how everything works well together. If it were me, I would try dropping that really high synth or string sound, I can't tell what it is, a fifth or a full octave. It just sounds annoying in the rest of the mix, just my opinion. I think if it were lower in register it would flow better and maybe work as a slight counter melody to the voice. Keep it up though, I like your style.
Hey Marius9 - you know, I hadn't even considered this...thanks for the suggestion, and I'll certainly give it a spin and see how it takes. That's the great part of this for me, the suggestions that wouldn't be considered otherwise. A counter melody just might smooth the tension a little more in this one - but I'll be careful not take it out altogether. I like how it feels somehow rebellious in this version. Thanks for the listen and review! Cheers.
This is really cool. I like this tune. I prefer the original Tears For Fears version of it, because the music doesn't really capture the mood at all, giving that keen sense of irony.
I'm impressed that you could do all this from memory. I knew it at one time, but forgot it.
It's cool to hear that you are saving up to restore that piano. If you can find the right people, it shouldn't cost you more to restore it than buy a new one, unless you have to outright replace most of the parts. I used to be an apprentice for a player piano restoration shop (Got laid off) back in 2004. I assisted with the restoration of vintage pianos and both vintage and modern player pianos, and most of the price comes from the fact that not many people do it. If you do a little research though, you'll find that it really isn't all that hard. Most of it just involves having a lot of patience. Cheers.
Just awesome. I really dig the intricate keys. It sounds like a good deal of time went into this track. Kind of reminds me of old school Apoptygma Berserk, Assemblege 23, or Velvet Acid Christ, or at least their more downtempo stuff. It's added to my favorites at any rate.
I always try to add at least one piece of constructive criticism, otherwise there really isn't much point to review. In this case, I would suggest softening the tone of the saws. They are a little abrasive and conflict with the feel of the rest of the track.
Hey Marius ! so sorry for lat replay to your kind review !
really glad you like it man , whole track is all about remix of same idea of my old track at other genre , actually my ear is good than put noizy sounds on relax genre lol , it's just for fun ! but again thanks for great notes really appreciate =)
I like. Very professional sounding. I can't really say much aside from that. Usually, I only send something out when I can give some kind of constructive critisism, but here I can't. It's exactly what I would make if it were me but more creative with sound effects (I never know when or where to use them, or what to use, so I don't use them at all). Hit me up sometime, I would like some tips on how to get such an even sound out of my stuff.
I really dig this track. It's a little more simplistic than the stuff I normally like, but I like all the buildups and the drums a lot. How did you get such a driving kick drum and that buildup cymbal crash? I would love copies of both of those samples if you have them. Also, I can tell all the work that went into the synths. usually, I'm too lazy to tweak my synths, I just try to find good presets to use, but I have played with sounds before I know all that goes into it, so I love the distortion tweaking. Keep it up man!
thanx man sorry for the late response. I layered the kick with one kick having a low frequency tail and the other a sharper snap. The buildup cymbal crash is just a reversed crash cymbal lol. If you send me an email I can give you the crash but the kick I dont have anymore because it was layered and so effected. Also the cymbal buildup wont be exactly the same because I used a lot of effects on that too. Thanx for the listen.
Again, I feel like I shouldn't be "reviewing" your track for a third time, but if you don't mind, then it's all good.
To answer your question, I just have a really old computer. From like 2004 or something, it only has 512mb of ram in it for one, and the soundcard isn't the greatest either. I've already got it tweaked to allow maximum performance with music, but the audio lags and underruns big time. If you know of a way to curb that in Nexus, please tell me, but aside from that, I don't think anything can be done short of buying a new PC.
Try this, in FL go to OPTIONS >> Audio Settings >>
Click on 'AUDIO' There will be a section saying 'direct sound properties, or whatever your soundcard is' and there is a 'buffer' move the buffer up, not too much, cos it lags the touch-key-sound loads, so when you press your keyboard the sound on your instruments will come out afew seconds later aposed to normal, but it stops the CPU from scratching and crackling, you can always change it back too.
I feel retarded following up in this spot, but I couldn't message you...
Anyway, I got a copy of Nexus, and I am having a blast with it. My computer is not, but I am, lol. I did a trance tune with a bunch of different sounds, but I'm debating putting it up, because it doesn't sound very polished.
It was hell trying to get this to work with FL studio! I finally found a youtube tutorial, and followed it step by step.
If you can't figure out the problem, message me and I'll try to find it for you.
What problems are you having with Nexus in FL? maybe i can point you in the right direction, i'v had afew problems with presets and the CPU before but it can be fixed easily.
i dont allow to be sent personal messages due to the amount of faux faulse people advertising fake deals, spam etc.
deffinatly keep playing around with Nexus as much as you can, it doesnt matter if tracks are not polished its all a big learning curve, i still havent found my way around nexus, and i dont think i will for a while.
I appreciate it cousin... I don't know if you've created sum new ish in tha lab lately but I'm gonna run through your looperman library and check more of ya hotness out thanks man!!!
Genres always confuse me. I really don't hear the difference between this and trance. Both are hard house based with atmospheric elements, and as far as I know, that's what trance is. Even band that I really enjoy, who are under the electro/industrial dance category like VNV Nation are trance to me. With that said. I really like your selection of notes, and your selections of synths, I think it all fits really well. Had it been me making this track, I would have used a piano for the melody, but that's more because I don't think to add a different synth sound for my non gated/arpeggiated stuff.
In all, I like it. Are the plugins you use seperate from the plugins given in FL studio? I just kind of stick with the packs, Sytrus, poizone, and FL keys for everything, so thought I should ask, maybe expand my horizons a little bit.
hi thanks for your review.
to answer your question, i use alot of the FL plugins but a while ago i was searching for the trance piano plug in and i ws told to get nexus, so i did, i advise anyone to get hold of nexus, its BRILLIANT thousands of presets to play with, catagories, instruments, and more!
I think i used a 'terminators theme' piano for the melody and turned the cutoff knob a little to give it a more acidywet edge rather than that piano sounding like its behind a wall.
deffinatly worth trying nexus out, its just something i cant open up when i open up FL now.
