Great track. Good dynamics and feel for the singers voice with the music. I really do need to get back on Looper more often, I miss so much awesome music and new musicians. This is solid in every way. Very well done.
No, no one is knocking at my door offering to sing either. Funny, that. I think you've got make the effort in approaching people and I don't really make it (nervous after getting screwed over by too many people in the past). However, I'll probably soon upload a female vocal epic I did a few years ago. I have a whole unfinished album of that stuff.
Anyway, "drawl as you put it is a bit down to the time stretching to fit to tempo" certainly did not occur to me. Interesting if that is the answer. It didn't sound artificial, just a natural singing style. But I guess time stretching can introduce odd artifacts so maybe that's it. Or maybe it's just enhanced and exaggerated the drawl that's already there.
"he must have steroized it with the reverb effects panned more to the right?"
I don't know. I guess that's possible. Have you had any feedback from him yet on the track? You could ask him then.
Panned reverb effects? Seems a strange thing to do but anything's possible. I still think, for whatever reason, there's some distracting left bias. You pointed out the same thing in my track The Penitent Man Will Pass (or maybe it was you who said it was fine, can't remember) and I've checked and checked and I can't find where that damn left bias is originating from. Very annoying! I'll have to go back and search harder.
Anyway, good work and good luck with getting more vocals to work with.
All the ingredients are here to make an incredible track of technicality.
I have already integrated the powerful voice, of this boy full of talent, in one of my compositions with the pella "Sacrify" and I know from experience that is not obvious at the outset.
Here you have found the right key to make this challenge a pleasant and a dance track with your usual musical ingenuity. Congratulations.
Stunning performance Steve...agree with you this guy is one of the most talented singer here...I'm not the biggest fan of the dance genre and I don't know it, neither but this song gotta special vibe and mood...it's just floating on and on...brilliant clear mix as usual...your musicality had given justice with this singer...respect and congrats...fabulous song...
Hi Danke..I choose Dance because I really don't know what I am doing when it comes to genre! I suppose it could be Electronic Rock? I never consider a genre when I listen to music other then "like" / "Don't like"! Glad you liked it. It was fun to get a track out with vocals to fill out a reasonable length song.
Cheers
Steve
Not keen on the intro keys sound. What they're playing is fine - it's just my preference. But, but, but - it sounds fine when the fat beat enters. There's just something about the higher harmonics though I'm slightly at a loss to explain it fully.
Some sounds don't sound good to me when playing solo but do when backed by a fat drum beat.
0:31 nice moving, sweeping trance synth. This all sits well though maybe chords could have done with a little change or a fill or two at the end of a bar or two.
Not too keen on his voice when it comes in. Just something off with the drawl on "No way" in "I'm getting no way". Or maybe it's "nowhere".
Reminds me slightly of some punk singers there and in a few other spots. But I can see why you like him so no need to worry about my opinion. It's irrelevant.
1:48 vocals seems panned/recorded too far left. Also, recorded different acoustically so sounds slightly odd when it enters. Maybe trying to get that first acapella and second to sound more similar though that may be hard if recorded on different mics etc. Hope that makes sense!
Yes, 1:33 simple guitar chords work well but I prefer high sound on 1:44. Guitar sounds a bit distant so could maybe do with a bit of brightening via mid or hi EQ.
There are some good breaks later and this has definite commercial potential. People will dance to this in clubs, for sure. It sounds a bit different for you so that's probably the vocal inspiring some different moods, which is a good thing.
Hi SN...this one was a bit of fun with some vocals that I could get enough of in the same key...as picked I did use 2 different recordings so they do stand out...the drawl as you put it is a bit down to the time stretching to fit to tempo I think...as for the panning all vocals are centrally panned. It does seem to be stronger in the left channel but when monitoring it the levels are pretty even so he must have steroized it with the reverb effects panned more to the right? Anyway its nice to play a track with vocals as no one is knocking at my door to sing with me! Thanks again.
Steve
Nice intro. sense of foreboding. Then a nice funky beat. good build. Sinister feel with the minor chords. Perfect fit when the vox comes in. I agree with ed the guitars at 1:33 are great. I was thinking that maybe the vox could have more of a stereo echo to them since this a dance tune? just a thought. Though nice stereo delay on his held vocal note. The music is spot on and I am tres impressed. Love the Phased pad at 3:25. This is just a really good song. I really liked this one Steve.
Steve
Hi Steve...I did start out with echo on the vox but then I wanted to have the echo stand out on the held notes so I dropped it. I could try it using two echo units with one cutting in and the other out when needed? Might try that. Vocals make the song in this one as they are so strong and well pitched. Glad you liked it!
Regards
Steve
Oh Yeah....that guitar hit that first checks in around 1:33 is freakin deadly.....to my mind this one is just a fantastic mix of what is best about dance & rock Steve,,,steklo indeed does a great job on the vocals...right on key...appropriately expressive delivery....I will check out his page (I am terrible at trying to compose around vocals but I`ve been spending some time listening to what guys like you come up with)...This is top notch stuff...ready for commercial release & it would be great if it replaced the stuff my radio plays...a big well done to both of you...Ed
Cheers Ed...yes good vocals makes the music part far easier as they set the tone...the guitar is Rob Papens RG vsti and although I've used the rhythm stuff a bit I only just found this setting which does sound pretty good for a fake rock guitar. Really glad you liked it.
Steve
"well the kit I have with SP is the Metal Foundry one. Only ever used the default settings"
Hey, I also have Metal Foundry but am slightly surprised to hear you have it. I checked your profile and there is mention of you liking some heavier bands. But I haven't heard anything at all heavy from you on here.
You're good at the chillout and upbeat ambient dance stuff. If you don't do any heavy stuff, how come you've got Metal Foundry? I got it to do heavy drums. However, it's certainly not just for that, as you've shown with this track (I wouldn't have guessed it was a heavy kit, except for maybe the bass drum).
"Only ever used the default settings!"
Really? There are loads of kit pieces in Foundry, including a snare that's really good for d'n'b. Shame it's not as straightforward as it should be to just swap out one snare for another (you've got to do that boring X-drum thing, then assign the MIDI channel etc).
"had a good laugh when I saw your comments email and the attached video!"
Glad I gave you a good laugh. Just one of those wonderful little songs you forget about in the Pythons' fairly large body of brilliant work. Eric Idle is arguably one of the finest comedy songwriters.
I couldn't actually tell which Superior kit you were using (which is why I asked), I just guessed as you have before mentioned you have the software (one that I use all the time). Drums do sound good here.
I shall check out Purity. I don't use much brass (not really into it) but do sometimes have a need for it. I'd like to get some muted trumpet into a track. Could go nicely with my slide blues guitar work.
Those cymbals aren't necessarily bad - probably just too loud.
Yes, I checked back and you did upload a song earlier this week - one with lots of guitar. I think I had a quick listen and wasn't grabbed by it. But I'll check back and listen again, see if I get more into it.
Damn, you got a lot of comments early on with this track so people were clearly sufficiently moved to leave some generous praise.
Hi...well the kit I have with SP is the Metal Foundry one. Only ever used the default settings! Thanks for being honest about the previous track...it is a bit vanilla...I think it needs actual guitar playing to bring it to life! As for comments it simple...no mention of jazz...;-)
Cheers
Waouuuu! Impressed, I'm by listening here .... A music full of contrast, and of feelings (that's you at sax?) ....
You have us not accustomed to this musical concept. It's really good.
Now we need to find a beautiful, sexy voice to accompany you on this adventure ....
Dan
P.S: I'm interested in the aged scotch .... The best remedy for travel, with the harmonies .... d(^_^)b
Hi Dan...the sax is me playing and its a VSTi called Purity...with a bit of reverb..a beautiful sexy voice??? If Janis would only be so kind!;-)
Thanks for your support
Steve
What a delicious track, Steve !
So much elegance and tenderness in it ... Sounds like what we feel when we finally accept _ without resentment or anger _ that a love affair is over .
Thx a lot for this soothing and delicate beauty .
Take care .
Hi Janis..nice to hear from you...you nailed the sentiment...let it go and don't be bitter...just soothe it with a well aged scotch!
Thanks again
Steve
Love the Rhodes intro. The bass is nasty and dirty on this one. I see you have centered the drums in the mix the piano is a nice accompaniment and then becomes an electro piano. then the Mix widens perfectly with Sax and Piano (Grande) Nice stereo effects (white noise) (2:38) Sax and Pad end this nicely with some percussive effects. With a fading Piano.. Well done song evokes a nice mood.
Steve
Definitely has a late night, laid-back, winding-down feel to it. Really liked it. Its the kind of music that I like when I just need to disconnect from all the stresses of work etc., turn down the lights, and let my thoughts go where they will.

Hi Orlando...the sax sound did come over really well and thank god for "Dump Score Log" in FL studio as the melody and touch just came together while practicing without recording!
Much appreciated
Steve
Steve you are a fabulous composer...this song is super...yes it's a 'late nght night at the bar' kinda stuff, where or when we want to forget everything...once or twice in the lifetime...third is dangerous (have to think on ourselves :-)
At the middle I was wondering a bit, calm sax...and than it came...(I have a same named sax loop: late night at the bar...) check it if you like, just for fun...
Hi Danke...it is a nice track that I was pretty pleased with. This track kind of just popped out after spending a couple of days on a stupid electronic track that was going nowhere...I thought bugger it, just grab a bass, pianos, a sax and strings and get back to basics...the old faithful!
Cheers
Steve
Hi, had a good laugh when I saw your comments email and the attached video! New the song straight away. Superior Drummer yes…good get!...sax is a VST, again Purity...
...cymbals...probably my own inbuilt eq (Hearing loss at 8000+ kHz) is making it sound less harsh to me but I'll try Superior's crash cymbals...not sure why I didn't in the first place!...only song for the week? No! I've slipped on past you by the looks of it! Anyway thanks again for the great feedback
Steve
Tres Bien, I love how it builds on itself. Nobody uses those chorused guitar sounds any-more, and that's such a shame because they are hauntingly beautiful. As this song is beautiful especially at the piano break at 2:38 that is nice. Put me in a great mood this morning. Great Work Steve!
Steve (Crucethus)
Many guitar, but it's a delight. Concept built with your usual talent and ingenuity.
A subtle blend with a game of instruments (piano very nice too) very well controlled.
You are a master, that I could take as model for some of my future music.
Congratulations.

Yes, definite late night chill.
Good room sound on those drums. A Superior kit, possibly? If so, which one?
This is probably a bit too lazy and gentle for me but late night, fairly romantic smoothness for people into that.
Especially when the sax enters. I guess that's a VST but it sounds damn convincing.
1:33 cymbal is a bit harsh/loud. Same again later on.
2:21 drum fill I like.
Good mix of piano and Rhodes (I think) here. Less of the synths with this one so sounds a bit more like a live jazz band due to the loose feel.
Maybe it's you in the corner of the bar at the piano entertaining the guests as they walk in.
Sorry, that's just reminded me so I can't help posting this gem of a song.
