Thanks, i think there's still quite a bit to be done to get it up to scratch but slowly we're getting there.
Thank you for taking a moment to listen and leave your inspiring thoughts.
FR
YOO FR THIS IS FIRE !! =O I listen to A LOT of trance and techno so yea lol. The bass IS hot the whole DAM arrangement IS sweet the piano was a nice touch i can go on and on XD lol. I dont know what to say anymore =P but dam good job bro the vocals flow so well with the beat WELL DONE with this one RESPECT THIS MUSIC. AD out ^_^
Thanks A.D. I'm going to try and concentrate on making this one better as i have this terrible habit of rushing mixdowns. It's never been my stong point and it's probably about time i tried a bit harder.
Thanks for your words of inspiration.
FR
Really liked the lead stabby piano. The percussion is also awesome.. the vocal isn't over-used, which is good (although it does get a bit too loud on the semi-breakdown)
I reckon the track could use one or two extra layers to fill it out a bit more - maybe some arps or saws or something.. make it a bit more poignant mebbe..
As for the mixdown:
A bit on the muddy side.
The kick to me is barely audible - needs a bit more smack imo (no, not the brown stuff)
Things are also very sort of central in the mix, I reckon some more panning automation could be used to create a bit more atmosphere. Or some doubling.. I like doubling :)
But overall though, nice track! Thanks for the DL man!
I knew i could rely on you for some constructive critisism George. Now i've had a chance to play it back with some volume i hear it so i'll do a bit of eq and re-up it later on.
Note to self: Drink doubles, chase the dragon!
Cheers for stopping by.
(Oh and apologies for taking so long with that remix of your's. i just had to capitalise on the new girls acapellas. You know how it is? You've got to be quick round here or you miss the boat)
Anyway, it's next on my agenda so thanks again for your input.
FR
This is awesome man, this sounds very fluid and the acapella is perfect man! This sounds professional! If you can, listen to my track, I just got started and would love to hear some feedback from someone with your skill!
Thanks for your words of encouragement. The track wouldn't have happened without the acapella so all credit to Romy Harmony for posting some top vocals to work with. Two heads are better than one and all that.
I'm glad you liked the tune and i'd be happy to check out your work. On my way over now.
FR
My friend, you are certainly on a roll at the moment! This is just a fantastic piece of music that I simply love! I have no critique (even though I want to find something lol).
Great work my friend, and superb use of Romy's wonderful vocals.
It's Romys vocals that made the track if i'm honest. I just built everything around the accapella. It's a bit like painting by numbers really, just instead of colours you fill in the gaps with sounds.
I'm glad you weren't put off by me duping everyone with the model thing.
Cheers again mate, It's always appreciated.
FR
Thank you. The only thing i'm worried about now is that because this tracks been quite popular i won't be able to get away with writing any more stuff that absolutely sucks lol.
I'm glad you enjoyed this tune.
FR
Thanks. I still like this one as well although it's a bit overloaded with trebble in a few spots which i'd like to try and get round to sorting out one day.
I can't believe you actually bothered to read that rubbish on my profile page but glad you found it amusing though. I don't care too much for being serious really. The world would be a much better place if everyone felt the same in my opinion.
Thanks for listening to my two tunes & giving positive comments.
FR
Thanks. Everything just seemed to go well with this track from start to finish. i guess that's the advantage of having a decent hook provided for you eh?
Thanks for listening.
FR
Thanks, i don't make trance much these days but it seems to be pretty popular so i think i might have to start again.
It wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without the vocals though so credit to Romy for that.
Glad you could tune in.
FR
This is bangin and it flows oh so well! I love how you've incorporated the vocals, they sound like they were recorded just for this song! Just listened to one of your drops, just amazing! The sounds you've used are just perfect! Great ending too! Such a good song! I'd fave it if I could!
Kind words sir. I must have done something right here for once. I must do another with Romy's acapellas, they seem to suit what i'm good at (and i don't mean gardening lol)
Cheers for listening to it.
FR
Cheers mate. Like yourself i had a pretty hedonistic time in the 90's (when we used to get good stuff to party with) and still love all the music from around that period.
None of that dubstep malarkey! What are you supposed to do to that? Snort ketamine and collapse in a corner i suppose. Kids these days eh? lol!
Cheers for stopping by.
FR
FR, really nice remix. I saw you were happy it didn't turn out like Rick Astley, haha, hell, I loved that guy :) I used to wish I could sing like him, instead of sounding like a car exhaust. But I digress, it really is a nice remix of a great track.
Nice of you to stop by Mr Beatl. i know you're more of a hip hop/dub man so cheers for trying a different flavour.
I'm starting to get the feeling this one might actually be alright.
FR
So I have this one cranked up and my wife walks into my studio and says, "Who's that?" I answer "Free Radical." She leaves the room. She comes back in about a minute later and says, "I like it." I say, "I do too." She leaves again for another minute then comes back and says, "Who's the singer?" I say, "I have no clue." She says, "I thought you said it was Free Radical." I say, "It is but he isn't singing." She says, "What's he doing." I say, "Well he composed the music, played the different parts and then added the vox." She says, "Oh, well he's very good." I say, "Yes, he is." She says, "Tell him to tell the singer she is very good too."
Do you know what? I don't think i've ever had a review in the form of a two way conversation before. That really put a smile on my face. It was like a personally catered short story and i liked it.
Thank you to both you and your wife.
Oh and Romy the singer can be found here. http://www.looperman.com/users/profile/732354
She is very good too.
thanks again.
FR
Cool intro man!..actually it's an excellent intro!!..Is this the sort of music where your meant to take mood altering substances then pack yourself into an establishment with no marked safety exits, and then pretend your way too cool to look down the dress of the gorgeous babe dancing with her friends?..hahaha....God knows why these images present when I see the word Trance, maybe it's my aversion to the somnambulist tendencies of 21st century youth within their chosen nocturnal habitat of "Clubland".....now,seeing as I've got all my preconceptions out of the way I can critique the track properly(lol)...a great amorphous groove which doesn't rest on the opening choruses, but rather evolves and spirals with reflecting nuance and depth throughout it's journey..I suppose I could just declare it's a'banging' track and be done..but I only ever really sink my sarcastic boots into generic Hip Hop!........it is however the best Trance tune I've heard in ages!.....cheers Dave :)
Cheers Dave,
It's nice to wake up in the morning and find myself chuckling about generic hip hop, so even if you thought the track sucked that would have put a smile on my face. (can't beat a bit of "wassup! yo! Yo! Checkit! Rockit! Innit? yeah! yeah!")
Although i'm feeling it was worth the extra bit of mixing down at the end of this track so i must remember to stop being lazy with future mixdowns.
Glad you could stop by and check it out.
Wow... I think I gotta watch the movie hackers again, cause I was daydreaming about it while listening to this. Reminds me subtly of Halcyon & on by Orbital from the hackers soundtrack. Come to think of it, think I'll have to dust off some Orbital and give them another listen, cause this song reminds me of how much I enjoyed them.
Great job man
AD
Thanks mate. I was a big fan of orbital back in the 90's so i'm sure they've influenced me a lot over the years. Cheers for your kind words. It helps my day get off to a good start.
FR
Thanks mate. It's nice of you to wander out of your comfort zone and tune in. It's a bit of a love/hate thing with me and trance really. A lot of the time i think it sounds a bit cheesy so i tried to make this one a bit more hypnotic sounding.
Again, glad you could stop by.
FR
My friend this is bloody awesome as hell! Threw me back to the late 90s indeed, infact this could have been a track used in the Trainspotting and Human Traffic films!
The whole piece is superbly crafted and just flows superbly through out. The use of the vocal is masterful. TBH I really cannot understand why you haven't been signed??? Fantastic stuff and downloaded for much more enjoyment!
Thanks mate. It's a bit of a lottery being signed up, There's a lot of good artists out there. Mind you i used to work for a label and they signed some pretty dodgy acts so there might still be time lol.
Anyway, Glad you enjoyed this one. I think the track being big actually helped because for once i actually bothered to polish it a bit in audacity.
Thanks for the big up Cyberson.
FR
WOW Free this blindingly good my friend. Big respect to ya for this. The intro reminds me of the Prodigy and then sweetly into the vocal. Mate I am mightily impressed with this. This took me back a good few years to memories of banging nights in the woods & barns. Quality & I've downloaded to enjoy some more.
Thanks man. I haven't made a trance tune for ages so i'm glad it came out as good as it did. Romy's vocals are well suited to that sort of style so credit to her for uploading the accapella.
I'm glad you liked it.
FR
Damn good stuff, epic's the word, you know me, love my D n b and old skool hip hop primarily but I like to think
i know quality in any genre when i hear it! Great percussion sounds in this,in fact all of the sounds show a musician who knows the genre inside out, very slick and builds well, hell in the 90's I heard a lot of music like this and most of it this beats! well done
Thanks man. I don't do trance that often but i really enjoyed doing this. it was kind of the opposite of one of those tunes you can't finish. I couldn't stop lol.
Glad you could drop by.
Oh yeah, i saw you've got a new mix up. i haven't had a chance to tune in yet 'cos i've been working on this today. But liquid D&B sounds good to me.
Now you've reminded me i'm going to bookmark that thread.

Ok, sod sleeping and sod not reviewing, so here I am returning the favour with the review, and I gotta say this is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Love the ambient drone. Nice sounding piano, albeit a bit Japanese in places to some degree. Don't know if that was the intention, but it's what I felt from it. Very nice melody work on it regardless. Nice sounding bass amongst some brilliant sounding pads that follows up. Nice vocal sample, with some cool sounding effects on it :D
Love the percussion. Minimal, but has enough emphasis to last. Indian chant sounds really cool, love the delay on that.
The hats and snare that follow are fantastic. No idea how to get them to sound so punchy without them overpowering the whole track, like you've executed perfectly here.
Very, very good track. Absolutely love it, definatly agree with the sci-fi ish feel, but I see nothing wrong with that.
I'd favourite if I could, but a download will most certainly suffice :P
Thanks mate. You're right, It does sound very japanese and believe it or not that never occured to me until you mentioned it. I grew up in the far east so there's probably a lot of influence from that neck of the woods/jungle imbedded in the back of my mind.
Cheers for the great review and cheers again for listening.
Aboslutely awesome Free my friend. I love this. Downloaded to be enjoyed again. I know Red's original and you have done a fantastic job on this mate. I am so mightily impressed.
Every time i see your avatar pop up i feel falling off the wagon.
Nobody on the site does this stuff quite like redgold, so when i saw he was up for having it remixed i pounced on the opportunity. I've been meaning to steer more in this kind of direction for a while and i find remixing a good way of getting to grips with stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it (Even though all i really did was throw some samples over the top of what he'd already done and swap it about a bit lol)
Thanks man. I was a bit off my head when i wrote this so it needs a bit of tidying up. I keep meaning to do it as i think this could be a blinder with a bit more work.
Cheers for dropping in.
