Thank you! Just working on a wider mix due to the suggestions by Wayne. To be honest I am not good in these technical issues just playing instruments and recording them- Therefore it is very nice to hear that it sounds great!
Mix sounds like it's mono, can't hear any depth in the track as far as stereo or panning goes. Sounds like every track is centered. I think a better mix would really bring out all the instruments individually and give the track more of a wider stereo field if things were panned left and right a bit more. Just a suggestion.
Hi Wayne,
thank you for your comment. I am just about to finish another ix with your suggestions and you are absolute right. Really appreciated your critical and helpful comment.
Hey man, very funky! Can you share the secret of the horns, where you got the samples? I need them for one of my tracks :D ("take off your coat")
I do feel there's something slightly weird in the melody you have them play; one note that seems a bit late and sticks out. Otherwise it's very smooth and funky!
Mixing wise: all instruments have a good volume; the balance left/right is generally good but the guitar really sticks out panned to the elft like the rest of the band didn't want him to sit with the rest (maybe he's smelly).
You can probably increase the master volume for Looperman; some streaming sites do this automagically but Looperman doesn't. In general some mastering wouldn't hurt; put a compressor on the master (and on the individual tracks of you haven't) plus saturator/limiter etc (EQ the individual tracks if you hadn't already done that). There's also plugins and even sites online that do it for you.
Good luck, as said it's very funky, and that's how I like it!
Hey BaoBou, drop me a message for those horns some of them are sampled and played with midi. However, I have a collection which I collected years ago they were free to use. the brass band as far as I know, who offered them doesn't exist any more. I tried to consider your advises and uploaded a new version. As I mentioned before I am fairly new to the technical issues of mixing /mastering and was more than happy to play "just" the bass for years. To me this is still a bit like rocket science, turning 50 makes it not easier. Really appreciated your advices, ear and comment. Grateful help! Drop a PM for those horn samples if you like I am more than happy to help you with this matter.
I guess I'd be hard pressed to come up with a detailed definition of production, however, to me, the over all
end result is what really determines what a 'success' is.
I feel that it has more to do with having a feel for
blending textures together.I had your groove mixture set
on loop for a few hours while I was doing other things around the apt.finding it very pleasing and relaxing to
listen to. A masterful blending of sounds with no harsh
frequencies. Easy listening, with some tasteful surprises
'around the corners'. I think after you've been at for a while, you're going to be (producing - putting together)
some dynamite material. Keep it up.
Thank you for your comment mkperry. To be honest I am not sure what a production work is. I am not good in mixing etc. for this I played all instruments apart from the brass section which is sampled and the drums and just stomped ist together in Reaper. I am just getting into mixing after reading amounts of guides. S I guess I am fairly new to it and was just a recording guy... However I am glad you like it.
Very nice! We can never have enough funk here! Not sure if the guitar riff that starts at 2:02 is exactly in the right key, but all in all it's one big funky jam!
Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your comment. Your are probably right with the guitar (I am not a guitar player although I try). If I remember right you are a guitarist maybe you are willing to play on this track? Keep' da funk alive :-)
Very funky! It sounds like you but a lot of time and effort to make this funky song. It's like a funk salad. You got a lot of cool funky things in this one like the Rhodes and the Clav, or was the clav a funky guitar? Anyway, it's funky. Well done.
