Definitely going to check out your album. Very interesting, almost meditative. I like the breakbeat styled drums. I personally would have added some more vocal effects like heavy delay on transitions, but they also work as dry as they are.

Reminds me a bit of aphex twin's "syro" production, yet unique in its own SpivKurl way! Congrats on finishing the album.

Pat...Dave is right. You are a crazy genius....any possible doubt is swept away by this one. This one is so much of the wall that I just don't have any other option but to love it immensely. I have to play this for my friends!:) We would need more of that kind of stuff but just because we have it in little portions is even more precuious and refreshing. Orlando, I must thank you very much for what you've said here! To have even just one person in the world react with "love it immensely" makes me very happy, and it makes artistry worthwhile.

To be honest, this life in a US city is starting to drag me down deeply, and creativity keeps becoming more of a battle every week. There are days where I think I would do almost anything to escape this situation, and avoid what is being done to us. Comments such as yours help me feel better about things, and give me more reasons to keep working at what I love.

I just replaced another part on my old '91 Epiphone studio les paul, and you've helped encourage me to get in the studio with it... you know, stretch the strings. It's interesting handling it now, knowing what it was like when I got it. Smashed, and covered in enamel paint (not just the body, but the knobs, tuning pegs, bridge, fretboard ... everything). It's been refinished a couple of times since. Installed a pickup from a smashed yamaha to replace the one that was destroyed, roller bridge, nut, potentiometers and knobs, switch, jack... and now I find the broken off headstock of a epiphone special, so I replaced the tuning pegs with those. Parts from all over the place on that axe!

Hey Pat...well man if your going to make music like this people are going to call you a crazy man or a genius (or both!) ;)...You definitely don't follow any popular conventions which is a major plus in my book, and I'm also a big advocate of the straight off the board sound, no presets for you that's for damn sure..I almost despair when I see all the usual suspects lining up wanting a particular genre sound, they really have no idea whatsoever and expect everything to be just dropped on their lap, I digress....you've undoubtedly spent many hours on this album which I'll listen to in it's entirety, hopefully there's some dudes out there that will draw inspiration from this work and adjust their music making accordingly. Not many can claim full propriety over their creativity like you do, writing then playing the music, making the instruments in many cases, then recording and producing the whole affair, sounds like a jack of all trades and master of lets say half a dozen!....I think everybody could do with a little dose of your crazy mate.

Ha ha, yeah, it's fairly often that I get called crazy or genius, though maybe more often it is a combination of the two. I take either one or both as a compliment, especially when it comes to music!

I suppose that I never want to be known as conventional, unless I become a definition of a new conventionality. At this point, about the most conventional things in my life are having a pet and drinking on a regular basis... beyond that I feel like somewhat of a freak in this culture!

I did spend quite a bit of time shaping the sounds used in here. It was the first time I tried the new classical guitar strings in a song, just to make some loops... they're nice strings so far, and were definitely the most I've spent on guitar strings (not bass strings of course!).

I see that I may have had a limit on track plays on bandcamp, though I don't know if that is for the individual songs or the entire album... so either way, that is removed just in case it was keeping people from being able to hear the entire album. Pretty much no one pays for music anyway!

No matter what it is, I like the feeling of doing something myself. I make all of our own bread products, soy/seed/nut milks, and stuff. I've gotten pretty proficient at household electrician work and wiring lately, and repaired our refrigerator recently as well. About ready to refurbish the 100+ year old hardwood floors in another room, since the first room turned out good. Learning how to grow edible mushrooms, and have nine logs innocculated this year. I've even been working on becoming self sufficient in potting soil for indoor plants, after learning how to sterilize our compost (the plants love it)! I hate the feeling of paying someone to do work that I can do better myself, and I also hate fixing people's mistakes (too much ego, I know). I even try to keep my wife out of the kitchen sometimes, ha ha.

When I made this song, and in the time following, this song would almost always make me cry. These days it simply gives me hope. Those animals were innocent bystanders in a war that they did not choose. Some fell, like in all wars. Some survived. I chose to fight, since no one else would, and several battles were won on behalf of the "civilians."

Hey there, thank you for taking a listen and leaving your words!

I can't help but make strange songs, as most people have noticed. It's what I do... strangeness.

I am in progress on the final song for the album. I hope to have the last few recordings finished today, and hope to have the entire album released on Halloween (just by a fluke and not on purpose). The download should be freely available, either on my website or bandcamp or both, hopefully with a compact disc option on bandcamp (probably 3$ for US fans, or added shipping for world wide). I will probably create a thread to announce it, so keep watching the forum.

TA refers to Toasted Avalanche, as his descriptions emotively were spot on. he was also quite good at doing that on one of my songs, so i was giving him praise while praising your tune., sorry for the dis-communication. The Satire is that in this message for all of humanities attempts to control something, we continue to make more problems for ourselves. That will never change. We are an Animal. We have social characteristics that are found in our ape cousins. We can be brutal , violent, disruptive, but when we started to create the un-natural world in which we live in now, some of those characteristics are slowly being eroded. Life itself is getting better for most humans in the world. But the fear is it can all come crashing down due to Natural events, which will bring us right back to our brutal survival animalistic state again.

Ahhh, I understand the TA thing more now. Had not even considered that you were referring to another commenter!

I think I can identify with what you have said here, with the possible exception of the last points;

"Life itself is getting better for most humans in the world." This is something I do not see. Can't even think of a single example. "Better" is such a subjective idea, and requires a point of reference to even exist. I think about the changes I see and hear of, I look around my community, I remember the past... and all that I can think is "IT'S SO BAD."

"But the fear is it can all come crashing down due to Natural events, which will bring us right back to our brutal survival animalistic state again." Instead of fearing natural events and their destructive possibilities, I hope each day that this is indeed what cuts the human race down to size. While this may or may not bring us to our "animalistic" state, it is very likely the only chance for survival of humans and the entire ecosystem. "Brutality" is not something I would think of in this situation, as that is an essential characteristic which comes to mind in modern humans.

I appreciate you coming back with some clarification, and I welcome the chance to explain myself further. Have a good day!

Population growth is the worlds biggest problem, hands down. Political songs have always interested me. Whether it's folk, rock, punk, electronic or whatever genre, it's relevance to societies issues will appeal to some demographic of it's society and people will listen and totally get and spread the message. My latest track brings up how Americans are living in their yards in Puerto Rico and our prez thinks that he doing a great job. ?????

Your music has always stood alone in my opinion unique, intriguing and well worth listening to. Well put statement in musical form. Right on!(product of the 70's,ha)

Wayne, your comments often make my day, and this was definitely one of them! I apologise for being so behind in responses. It's been a difficult couple of months, and I'm sure you understand.

I too enjoy songs with a political edge, especially when compared to all of the questionable political items present on social media platforms. At least when it comes to music, and looperman specifically, when someone disagrees or is offended it will usually lead to a responsible discussion. So often when I make my views obvious elsewhere, there is an instant reaction of paid political shills, fake news, and questioning of my understanding of scientific method. Life in Amerikkka I guess.

Art and music seems like one of the few hopes for getting messages across which would otherwise be met with defensiveness. Even if I intend an album to lack political objects, it still creeps through. I suppose the only ways to avoid this would be to burn my microphones or start taking the medication again. ;)

Your opinion of my music means a lot to me, especially since I know that you have a hugely varied listening catalog. Thank you for listening! I look forward to visiting your profile today!

Hey Spiv, astounding piece both physically and mentally. To fully appreciate what you do, one has to be able to look beyond the conventional. Your songs are more like paintings which usually require more than a quick glimpse to fully understand and absorb. I could categorize you as an impressionist with some of your work but most, such as this, would most likely be considered surrealism. I think toastedavalanche is very profound with his assessment regarding texture and it does relate to this point. My only complaint to you, and I have the same issue with another Looperman - StaticNomad, is that I sometimes have to play your songs many times to hear everything that there is to hear. Don't get me wrong, playing you and StaticNomads songs over and over is not a bad thing, but it does take time. And I swear,even though you try to pass it off jokingly in your description (and don't laugh at this now) but there are a couple of your songs that appear to have some sort of mystical element in that every time I listen, I hear or pick out something different. I'm not sure if your into mysticism and this is some sort of enchantment that is attached or if it is just purely the fact that you incorporate so many sounds that are at extreme levels they are hard to make out if your hearing is not sharp enough or not paying attention. I have extremely sharp hearing, far above average. I cant even go into jewelry stores because I can hear super high frequencies from the electronic sensors on the glass showcases. Or...you quite possibly are dabbling with brainwave entrainment and subliminal stimulus? I have a few older electronic tracks that I actually tried a bit of this. Nothing subversive or diabolical in nature of course. Just things like once you listen to my track you will continue to follow me and listen to all my tracks, and once you join Looperman you can never quit. Harmless things like that. I dont think it worked. HA HA, just kidding !!!!!! (maybe)

This comment struck me as important, and not only because I received two copies of it, or because of it's length. I feel compelled to respond out of order.

Your discussion of art intrigues me, and it is not subject matter which I see brought up very often. The idea of my songs being akin to paintings is something which makes perfect sense... I have lived, both as artist and part time muse to a painter for over twenty three years. In my early albums, there were a few songs which I self-described as audio sculptures, but this was simply an idea influenced directly by technology... which may just be catching up with itself.

There is some amount of irony in your mention of StaticNomad in this context. It seems that He and I "rub each other the wrong way" in musical matters. No matter how polite we are trying to be, we both end up offending each other! I can't explain it either... are we meant to be competing/balancing forces?

I have a great respect for mystical elements in life, nature, subconscious - or whatever. I do, at various times, insert information at both the superliminal and subliminal levels, just like some of those who came before me. Many of my largest influences are those who's music became more intelligible after conditioned listening. Even when I walk the streets, I don't hide that my intention is to change people's minds.

I too have reasonably good hearing, possibly to the point where I hear things that aren't even there... can I get a LOL LOL. I have gone to significant measures to both diminish and encourage this sort of hearing. Possibly working in an optical lab for many years gave me some tolerance for sound.

The idea of "superliminal" is something which my wife and I discuss often when we are inebriated. I don't know for sure if we invented it or not... I doubt it, but it's a comforting thought. It is also a very common aspect of advertisement and propaganda.

I'm rambling here, because I have succumb again to sloth and gluttony... Your last insertion, regarding Salvador Dali, deserves an inclusion though. With no intended disrespect to the dead, I must admit to the situation of my avatar which may have contributed to the similarity. At the time that this painting was created, around early 2009, I was coming off of a few years of access to substance... I was still smoking my Indonesian cigarettes and rolling hard, and bottomed out at around 130 pounds. My wife and Love captured the moment on polaroid, and it became a painting which represents me, and still hangs in my main studio. This kind of relates to my mention of being artist/muse earlier. I don't know how this relates to Dali, but I am sure that he was sufficiently self-medicated!

You know, I just read what toastedavalanche had to say about your tendencies toward Texture over structure and other traditional traits.I really must say that statement just blew the door open for me regarding your music. It really makes a lot more sense now. I've always enjoyed your work, but in a very conflicted way, confused even at times; but I really think I get it a lot better now, thinking about it like that.

Sorry, I guess this isn't really a comment on this particular track, but rather a more broad thought train about your work. Once the thought hit me I felt I just had to mention it.

Hey, no need to be sorry about the thought train!

I think that I can accept the idea of my "tendencies toward texture" as a compliment, since I feel like I am in good company with that sort of music. Some of my favorite musicians, especially of the electronic sort, probably had the same things mentioned about them... people like Brian Eno, Cevin Key, Matt Johnson, and even maybe some of the more recent NIN/Trent Reznor work.

I am very fond, and also very sensitive to texture, probably partly due to my neurological issues. A good example is clothing and fabric in general. If I am shopping for clothing, the first thing I will do is rub the cloth between my fingers. Usually this is enough to notice any negative neurological reaction to the texture. Only if it passes this test will I even try it on. Sounds are similar to me, except I rub them between my ears... ha ha.

I got not any word at all (without the refrain cause i could read them in the lyrics) but the structure of this one fits for sure the being of humans. This is cool and strange at the same time but a little fare away from dub in my opinion. But that is maybe a kind of trick or treat and really ok in the days of Halloween :)
I would enjoy reading the lyrics to get the meaning a little more.
But i could enjoy the listen for sure without them.

Man, it's super rare that I am this far behind on replying to comments. I must have just released an album I guess!

I seem to have a very different conception of "dub" to the common human. My references of dub are mostly tape based, aside from and including most of the ones I have done on my own.

The Clash is one big "dub" influence to me.

Iris-T-Shirt is a big influence on songs like this. My wife and I are always looking for ways to manipulate political statements to suit our purposes. This song reminds me of an Iris-T-Shirt song, and what we did with Goerge W back in the day. We made him honest for the time.

The lyrics that I posted are the only ones I truly wrote. All others are just manipulation, and I say that with only the greatest of self esteem.

The written part is mostly a statement about wildlife management and it's application to humans as wildlife. The sampled manipulated portions only serve to enslave prominent figures to support my views.

It's funny,as a 'producer' (popular term lol) until recently,I have never really played with distortion,cross modulation and such,damn probably 10 years of making grime beats without distortion! I say recent cos lately I've been a bit obsessed with various distortion and filter plugins lol ..it made me think 'that spivkurl geezer was right all along' lol

Ha ha, yeah, grime without distortion and filters is a bit funny, but that's from me who barely knows what grime is. Atleast I can take comfort in "geezer" meaning something slightly different in the UK, lol!

Seriously though, if you have a decent EQ, then it can be used just like other filters with some setup. Even the very basic FL "parametric EQ" (not 2, but the first one) has some great filter options and a good range... in fact it is probably better than the rest of the stock filters in FL, since they don't have a consistent cutoff range between filter types. If you start to think of EQ as filters (which they of course are), then I use filters of some sort on almost every mixer track of every DAW project.

Distortion is bit tougher in the virtual realm, which is why I stick to hardware more for that sort of sound. Even with my fairly basic modular system, tons of different styles of distortion are possible. Guitar pedals and processors are always a good option, though the noise floor makes them a bit more difficult. For one of the basses on the song I'm working on now, I use a MIDI out to control a MIDI/CV box to run a fairly basic voice on the modular. It uses one VCA, of my own design to add some nasty distortion, then a second to do the envelope shaping... then the output goes to a rack noise gate/expander, which feeds the POD 2.0 for amplifier drive and compression. The result is pretty noise free when the notes aren't on, but has massive amounts of dirty power.

Hey Spiv, I haven't been here for a while, so I thought I'll give this a listening. This is a cool piece, and it will require many listenings to understand everything. But the first thing that came into my mind is that the vocals have some sort of Zappa feel to it, and that includes the sarcasm. Maybe this is not what you intended, but anyway I dig it. Maybe it needs some guitar solo somewhere :D :D :D

I appreciate that you have listened to this more than once in order to understand it. I do love a good sarcastic song or remark. Zappa is an artist that I still have yet to deeply explore. There are a couple of albums and songs which I have heard and enjoyed, and that is about it. I think I owned an album with Mothers of Invention at some point.

A guitar solo is a good idea, though it won't happen on this song... unless I were to incorporate it into a liveset I suppose.

This kind of experienced the sound is your own signature! i'm really admiring by the obtained result!

The drums line is awesome and in the last part when you free the kick, hummmmmm... this sound! incredible!
To simplify: first hearing, on my speakers with a correct volume - second hearing: with my headphone, pumping up the volume at his maximum :D

Bleep, it is definitely not necessary to remind me, as it has become quite obvious that you are my biggest fan during these recent works. I thank you for this! The support you have given over the last year has not gone unnoticed, and I hope to return the favor in some way.

Of all the songs on the album, I feel that this one was a good example of going back to my roots in electronic music. It has the flavor of some of my favorite Iris-T-Shirt works, and also some elements which were present on my first couple of solo albums.

Part of this is probably due to the time signature, since I used to work in 5/4 time very often while taking breaks to listen to classic jazz records. Deliberate manipulation of political speeches also used to play a significant role.

I think that the whole last album is best heard in headphones, since much of the work was done this way. I required privacy and focus, so this works well. I also required freedom and exhibition, and this was only barely realized, unfortunately.

While unicity is not a word I have heard often, I can accept it as a kind compliment. The first dictionary definition I came across had this to say... "the quality or state of being unique of its kind." I could coalesce with that! Thank you!

You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. The connection you have made with the Matrix makes sense to me in a way. If the "virus" theory is indeed the truth, then I must think that it is what became of humans. It seems like this harmful, insidious disregard has become prominent since the time that white man "evolved." Possibly they are a mutation. Possibly they are a product of interspecies mating with aliens. Who knows really? I know that there are still remnants of societies who live in harmony with nature, more like the other animals than they are like "civilised" people. Their lifestyle benefits the ecosystem where they live rather than consuming and poisoning it. I can see the only hope of this sort of lifestyle supporting the entire human population if most of them were wiped out. There are indeed too many of us, no matter how people choose to live. We'll see if it ever happens though. Thank you for listening and leaving your words!

Hey Crucethus, I appreciate you stopping by to listen! I'm assuming TA refers to someone who ended up in my sampleset, from the Canadian gov't... otherwise, I'm not sure what it would mean. I was not paying attention to who the people were, but simply the content and malleability.

The suggestion of "satire" seems to be a common reaction to this song so far, and it is interesting to me. I'll just paste part of my response to Orlando in regards to this - "There really was no mocking in my intention, but simply adjustment of spoken words to serve my literal purpose. Is that satire? I don't know for sure, still."

I have a strong bitterness about humans and their efforts to shape and control natural forces, when they know so little about such things. Their life is short and consumptive, their history is short and violent, their mass religions are disrespectful to nature and those who live in harmony with nature. This shows little credibility for being able to control even themselves, or to shape even their own future... aside from what I have explained in the song itself.

Hello Jamid, it is always a pleasure to hear from you!

I cannot take all of the credit for the "well spoken" nature of the track. The bulk of the words should be credit where credit is due, and that is some Canadian officials. I did manipulate the wording to make them say what it felt like they were saying to me.

The "open season" idea has bounced around in my head for quite some time, but became more clear in a recent visionary experience. After that, it splintered into what shows up in the song... maybe not as cohesive as I imagined, but just right in other ways. Things always get forgotten, hurried, or splintered when I am on the home stretch of making an album.

Excellent satire and mind provoking stuff or even brain manipulation as you say. In terms of your music there's at least a bit of halloween even after and before actual halloween, but then again it's in the life itself, isn't it?..^^

Ha ha, yes my friend, I see what you mean about Halloween. I used to spend most of my time in that state of being. Possibly it is what has diminished the holiday itself within my life. Then there is the cultural bias that it is a holiday for children, which was forced upon us in youth.

As I mentioned to toastedavalanche in the previous comment, I needed to contemplate the idea of satire a bit after reading the comments which were coming in on this track. Since it was not my intention, it made me curious. There really was no mocking in my intention, but simply adjustment of spoken words to serve my literal purpose. Is that satire? The more I listen to your music, the more I realise that your sound is about texture rather than melody. It shuns linear progression and focuses on distorting the familiar. This song is no different in that regard, yet this is more satirical than you other works. Great work

This makes sense to me. I am both in love with, and highly sensitive to texture - no matter the sense which the texture invokes.

I don't know for sure that I shun linear progression, but I am sure that I have no true conception of it. Maybe it is a disability, or a beneficial trait for an artist.

As far as distorting the familiar, I do agree that this is something I focus upon... not simply in music, but in general. My suit coat has sported a button/pinback for many years which states, "question reality" which I suppose, for me, would be a first step in the quest to distort the familiar.

The word "satire" has come up a few times since I released this song, which made me think a bit more upon the subject of satire. I became interested, since my intent was not satire, but in fact something to be taken literally. Who am I to judge the impression of listeners though? I am no one. I am nothing. I am wildlife. I am vermin. (Is this satire as well?)

Silverman said that he never knows what to expect...well, to a certain degree I could share his statement, yet my predominant feel is that I always know what to expect cause you never fail to deliver all sorts of goodies in your trademark fashion...creativity, inventiveness, extravaganza, healthy dose of craziness and sarcasm with loads of entertaining spirit. I can think of very few received comments which were quite this positive and encouraging, and I thank you for it. The list of qualities which you expect from a song of mine - "creativity, inventiveness, extravaganza, healthy dose of craziness and sarcasm with loads of entertaining spirit" - they give me a lot of hope that I succeed in my intentions. It doesn't get much better than that!

Since these field recordings were open air and crowded, they are not prime in any way, yet they still add some atmosphere and interest to an electronic song. I'd love to have better equipment for this sort of thing. My digital recorder is much better suited for small rooms. It does also seem good for EVP recording as well, since I picked up one of those in the local clinic waiting room.
