It is a clean mix, solid low end from most of the other entries and clarity overall. With my setup the bass can get very loud but still holds together. The level differences between the piano and guitar are close enough to greet each other yet stand apart, been having trouble with that on my take of the project. Thanks for sharing, Peace.
Very very cool mix you've done here! I am loving the tone and detail of the bass in this, sounds great! Nice stereo field! Sounds like you EQ'd some things in a similar way to me, but that bass is just so cool! You've done really well!
Thats some awesome low end you got going with the mix. Like the panning of the FX and guitars as well. Takes some of the stress off the high ends of the mix.
Thanks Psych!! Once you take out all the frequencies dealing with cancellation, the mix will open up.. Then figure out what frequencies are important to each instrument and panning same like frequencies away from each other. I'm always finding that between 150hz and say 300hz to be a problem cuz most instruments use those. Then figure out the feel, groove and energy of the music piece.. Well that was my approach to the mix... The mastering was done on the master output of the session, waves renn. comp. then waves L1 and the power dither on shaping 3.. and that hole processes took about 2 1/2 hrs.. My take on bad notes?? I was suppose to mix and master, there are no such thing as bad notes just poor decisions, but is that my place to say which is what, in most cases I would ask the writer but this was a contest and maybe a trick in the piece so I'm mixing and mastering not doing production.. Anyways thats my take on this.. Again thanks to all who enjoyed it and commented on the mix.. Was really cool to hear all the different mixes, and to be involved in this event..
My own version sounds a bit diffrent but thats just because i am a stupid beginner in mastering at all. I can hear here that you know what you do and i just done and listen and think then about good or not :) ......
I love the groove you give to the track. Good work!
Thanks joe!! cool pic you have.. I listened to some of your stuff, I like your raps.. sounds cool.. :) dont kno what your sayin but I can feel your energy..
Well, I think there just may be a new sheriff in town :) Beautiful mix, with a wonderful sound field. Everything is sitting nicely in the mix, exactly where it should be. And you did a great job working with stems that had reverb/delay/compression beforehand. It shows you have some major production skills.
Seriously Joking was able to point out another flaw in the original stems...the guitar that comes in at the 2:25 mark is playing a minor chord when the rest of the instruments are playing a major. That guitar needs to have the 3rd note pitched to mesh with the rest of the instruments or eliminate that note entirely (just another little challenge I tossed in).
As far as the mix and master goes, yours is definitely at the top of the food chaine. Well done. You know your stuff. Thanks for entering and good luck. I hope all is well.
Thanks short bus... yeah about that gtr, didn't know if I was to fix it?? well I just kinda did it quick, I spent 2 1/2 on it. I think I spent more time trying to get it up on the site.. lol.. :) but it was fun... the people on here really seem like great peeps and been listening to some really nice music.. glad I joined..
I listened to some of the other entries and this would be the winner in my book so far.
(But one thing though, some of the guitar chords sound a little out of key at some points - don't know if that is suppose to be or not.)
well alright.. thanks.. yeah there is a lil bangin going on but I didn't think I was suppose to adjust that, what if they wrote it like that?? My biggest problem was working with the eq, to much reverb then it was heavily compressed. Its very difficult to get the detail out of the instrument. If the tracks were dry, (comp. eq verb ect) I would have had alot more fun designing the verbs and DDL for some really cool imaging, but was all good, like the track too. :) thanks for checking it out.
wow after listening to the other entrys this is by far the best, mix is really clean nothing is to over powering it all renders really well together, you have real talent, not many people put much effort into their mixes,im liking this keep it up
Out of the 4 I've heard (including mine) - this is the best one so far :) .. really impressed with how much boom you have in the kick. I wasn't brave enough with the EQ I don't think lol..
I really like how wide this sounds.. really panoramic. Great job :)
all i can say is wow...... all the detail... so clear... amazing! you are very talented Mr. Scott. I hope to reach this level of mixing/mastering some day.
