Thanks. It's a track that's been floating around unfinished for quite a few years, so just decided to put it out there at this stage and get some feedback. Thanks for yours :)
Thanks for the helpful feedback. The rhythm section has always been an Achilles heel of mine, I won't lie. Especially fills etc. But I've taken on board your comment (along with some others) and intend to make some adjustments in the near future.
It does have an 80s feel. I noticed a couple people compared it to A-Ha. I can agree with that. I can also hear just a touch of Depeche Mode in a few spots.
Having been around in the 80s, and listening to ALL of the music back then, here are a couple of suggestions to consider for a more authentic 80s sound:
Brassy stabs. For whatever reason we thought the brassy stabs were gods gift to synth pop back then. In some songs they were very prevalent, in others, just an accent here and there. In this track, they'd be better as a here and there accent type.
Super synth tom rolls, Try throwing in a few tom fills that are very obviously synth toms. Another thing we thought was a good idea.
Just a couple of ideas that you can either use, or toss out. Either way, you've done a good job with your recreation.
Take care.

Hi there. Thanks for the insightful feedback. I may go back to the drawing board and incorporate these ideas to see how they sound overall.
Coincidentally, the synthy brass stabs are something which feature in the most recent of the 80's style tracks I've had a go at. I'll share it here soon, once I've put a vocal on it.
Yes, it sounds very clean and transparent... tidy, I'd say. And that's exactly how things were produced in the '80s. The only thing missing is the typical vocals, a bit bored and hysterical at the same time, with a generous dash of romantic icing on top. Good, exemplary work.
Cheers,
Micky
Thanks Micky. I wasn't sure that it was a faithful recreation, but as it's my first attempt I know there's some room for improvement. I hope to be able to put a vocal similar to what you've described on it at some point. Cheers!
It is a very successful recreation of the music of the 80's. The musical theme is bright like the piano chords you play at some point. Even if it is about a lost love, it carries youths optimism and a joy for life.
Best regards, Anthony
Thanks Anthony. I have another similarly themed track in which Elastik 3 became very useful. You mentioned the VST on one of your recent tracks and so I tried it out. I will share the result soon. Thanks for the inspiration :)
Oh this is a special one for boomers! works very well after only a few seconds you are back in the 80s! Drums and bass are unmistakable. very nice work.
Hi Bao. Thanks for the message. Yeh sure, give it a go! Not sure it would suit my voice so was thinking about reaching out for a vocalist anyway.
Please share your version when it's ready - cheers!
Hello aboemusic, loved the 80s sound, this definitely gives me that period feel.....it was an incredible time and lots of memories, very good job with this track my friend.
Thank you Dan. The key of the track doesn't quite suit my own vocal range, so it might be best if another singer performed on the track, tbh.
I may seek one out here on LM actually.
This is a lovely piece of ambient work. Very relaxing and calming, simple but effective. You need music like this sometimes, just to take a step back and reflect on things. I really like it.
Glas I've been able to produce something you like. It's quite a simple track really, but you don't want there to be loads of distractions from the Beats, so it's gotta be kinda basic for that reason. Anyway - thanks for the feedback.

I might actually try singing your lyrics to your track (maybe with some minor changes). Would that be ok?
