About Me

Officially, I am "Buddy B, the Storyteller" because there are other Buddy Bs out there.

I am an odd mix: a Texas country boy who grew up loving music in all forms, but specifically hip hop and electronic dance. Thus, in order to follow what is typically an urban art form, I have done a ton of traveling in the name of music. Seriously, I am known among my friends as the guy who will travel across three states just to hear some random underground dj or emcee.

So far as my own music career - ok, lets face it, its a HOBBY; you have to make money at it to call it a career - I started producing beats of various nature in 2002, and since I grew up writing poetry, pursuing lyricism was not far behind.

As per a description of my style thats developed over the years, I turn your attention to the title "the Storyteller." For whatever reason, my rhymes have always tended to navigate to story mode, and they tend to be abstract and usually with a spiritual or sci-fi tint to it. My beats explore a wide rangeof genres, which I am proud of, but they usually are some form of breaks. I'm not so hot when it comes to four-on-the-floor.

So far as exposure goes, I havent had much, and there is little-to-none in the area where I live, but Austin and San Antonio are both about 2 hours away, so those are the real musical outlets I'm trying to pursue...

Besides my own emcee/DJ projects, I also produce for a Gospel rapper in my area. (Laugh it up if you want, you ain't have never heard nobody rhyme this ill for Jesus, and I respect that.) Seriously, the dude's amazing, and I got lucky stumbling into him out here...

I cant get caught up in standard hip-hop because I myself am far from your standard hip-hop fan; I'm not from the streets, I don't claim to be gangster or thug, etc... But, I CAN lay down crunk beats and blow your mind with mad rhymes... And thats all that really matters, right?

Instruments I play

Drums, hand percussion, harmonica, little bit of keyboard... Does the mic count?

Software I Use

Oh man... Started with Acid Music, moved on to Reason and Fruity Loops,Cool Edit Pro... Currently trying to get my R16 to work with Cubase the way its supposed to, but so far, having bad luck.

Hardware I Use

MPC, mostly... A Little R16 when not paying for studio time and doing pre-lim recordings

Listening To Right Now

well, I been really stuck on Raw hip hop lately, RZA, GZA, MFDOOM, plus a lot of La Coka Nostra and Jedi Mind (have you heard Vinnie Paz's new Solo album? Holy Crap).

DJ/producer-wise, I cant seem to get enough Bassnectar, Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, Honda, Ghostland Observatory, RJD2, Cut Chemist, or Blockhead. Nah, RZA and MFDOOM, I didnt forget about yall, you get on this list twice.

But that, by no means, is representative of the music I listen to; for instance, if my girl's in the car, I usually play emo-rap stuff, like Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Buck65 - that kinda thing. I'm also way into anything with hand percussions; reggae, tribal, afrobeat, latin jazz - anything with a bongo that makes you move. And, the country boy in me still jams a few underground folk/country/Rockabilly bands, like Reverend Horton Heat, the Gourds, and Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band.

Ok, that was definitely not a top ten list. whoops

10 Favourite Albums

Woah. I'm gonna have to think about that one.

My Influences / Fav Artists

What? You see how long this profile is already becoming! You want to be here all day? Reading a list of the artists in my terabyte-worth of music? nah...

Let every sound I hear or have heard influence me...

My Music Sounds Like

Buddy B the Storyteller.

Hopefully, thats the only artist it sounds like!

In My Other Life I ...

Eeep... I was working at a local bank, but currently looking for a job, probably something similar... Truth is, I hate the banking industry, I only got caught up in it because I needed a steady job, and now it seems to be the only job I can get...

Here's hoping all this producing and writing actually gets me out of White-Collar Slavery!!

heh. "White-Collar Slavery." I hereby claim that Hook!
