When I find an awesome new song I will usually download it and play it backwards just to explore what melody might appear or what lyrics it may inspire.
I have been writing forever.

I don't read music but I play around on the keyboards, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar... or use the human voice.

recently found Yaima (especially songs Rising and Gajumaru). Hu Band (song Wolf Totem), Lemonflower (songs Hares On the Mountain, God Bless the Grass, Iris Song For Us, Roll Away, Hold On Forever, etc.), Faun, Cosmo Sheldrake...

mother nature and voices in my head are influential, but actual bands include: Blackmore's Night (saw them in concert a few times), Black Sabbath, Dio, ABBA, Simon & Garfunkel, Abbi Spinner McBride, SJ Tucker, Omnia, Rainbow, Woodland, Lobo Marino (now renamed to be Holy River), Flight Of The Conchords, Sandy Denny, and so many more.
