Smooth Criminal is without doubt my favorite MJ track. I really like your interpretation. Excellent choice of instruments/sounds.

I'm wondering if the "80's" feel is a side effect of the synths, the filters or the Tracker based software, I used in this piece?

I try to avoid using the same instrument more than once across all my tracks, which sometimes leaves me in strange VSTi places...
