Leahcim, thanks for the compliment. Just to correct you, I do not sing or should I say I can not sing. These are loops I found and wrote the song. I played all the instruments except the Drums Scott B helped me in that area.
Thanks you for the positive compliment one this.
I am very grateful you are enjoying it and will in the
future listing to it. Thanks for listening to it, but also posting a comment. It really is a pleasure in hearing nice feedback on my work.
I like all your tracks. Hard to chose one to comment on. They all have a quality to them that is apparent. I hope you continue to create and post to Looperman.
Thanks for the extremely kind words. I am at a lost for a comment since you and NFMaster had said the same thing about my music. I dropped by your page and I must say I am not even in the league of you and your music. I had the same problem in picking one of your tracks as the best, they are all totally professional very clean. I see you also play bass, Keys and Guitar. OUt standing performance on your tracks.
I will try and make some more tunes and post to my page. I have been a little busy at home so I have not had that much time to focus on my music. I must also say I have met a great drummer ScottB that compliments my track by laying a great beat down. It sounds so professional when the drums sound perfect. - Peace
Well Franco you know as a musician we are never happy with our work. Yes is sounds good to others, but we always are never happy with our work, it could have been better on the rhythm or the lead. I do appreciate your compliments.
I hope you, Scott and I can do a tune real soon.
Hiya Midiman. Okay, I love the rhythm section, very easy to listen to, so well done to that! As far as the vocal, it's not quite in the pocket as it should be (I am re-listening the track as I write). It seems as if she is racing ahead of the musicians, not breathing the song or really connecting with the lyric. This is especially true of the last few bars where she is (and I am assuming) improvising. Improvisation and Jazz can be a magical thing, but in this case it seems rushed and a bit disconnected. With all that said, I do really like her voice. Of course my comments are based on the assumption her vocals were recorded either "live," or to your track, and not dropped in.
Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the compliment. I was trying to get a live feeling by letting it be out of sync a little just a little. not to much not to less. Like listening to a real band. Guess I got that since you noticed a slight timing feeling.
This is really good stuff, though not exactly my kind of thing.
I first must say that I see no problem with Windycity's comments. They're not just abuse and/or condescending or mindless rubbish and he's written them out perfectly intelligently. They're just minor suggestions, though I don't necessarily agree as I think the mix is pretty good.
But we can all disagree over any mix all day as it's such a subjective. indefinable thing.
Actually, my main problem was with the bass drum hits at various points as they are too loud/too high a velocity. I can give lots of specific time references, if need be (eg 2:35, 3:19). I would go back in and lower lots of them (something I do a lot in my own music) as I'm convinced it will help. Otherwise, the drums are good.
Sax solo is cool.
Interesting musical coincidence: guitar intro to excellent song Elephants by the band Warpaint (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOFxb0F2F2A) can be heard quite strongly in the part starting on 0:35 of this track. No problem, just thought I'd mention it.
I am not really upset with windycitys comments just the fact that he should understand that this is jazz and it needs to breath to sound good. I could see if I left a dup set / disco song like this that would be a typical error.
It is also true that the bass notes are loud and soft I did that to make it sound live not sequenced.Wanted a live feeling to it.
This was fabulous. I really enjoyed it.
Great sultry vocals, drums with deadly timing and precision and your parts midiman, were also as superb. The stellar solo was pulled off well and seemingly effortlessly. Bravo all around for a fine performance. Encore!!!!
Scott and I are happy that you enjoyed the song. Thanks for your fine compliments on my playing. I really enjoyed making this one and having Scott assistance on the drums.
Nice to catch up with such a fine jazz number on the loop (we could use more n the genre)...aside what others may say midiman...I love your mix and especially the fact the you have brought it up to the perfect level, clean & clear and with all the dynamics intact...I hate to see those wav graphs that look like a ruler with the life compressed out of them...a very fine bit of composing for the accompaniment and nicely played to feature and support the vocal (and its an excellent vocal)....a big well done to all....keep doing it....Ed
I am always happy to see an honest comment. I also hate to see a wav so flat it looks like nothing but a flat line.
I did compress it some, just not the heck out of it.
I think my playing was ok on this. Not that great.
ahhhh.... man! This song has a certain EvH taste which really brings me back in time.
In the beginning I was not 100% convinced by the guitar sound but as soon as you moved on the higher notes I was simply loving it!
This is a good song!
Did you ever thought about re-working it and maybe getting somebody singing on it?
Should be really interesting...
Ciao, Domenico
Yeap EVH was one of my favorite guitar players lucky I was able to master a little of his technique. I also wish someone would lay down some vocals for this this is why I had it posted on the loop hoping and praying someone would assist in the vocal area.
Again I really do appreciate your honest comments. I am glad you liked it. I also thought it sounded like Joe Satriani a little.
Good song. Really enjoyed.
Highlights:
- drums (I am more and more impressed by Scott... this one sounds again perfect)
- guitar work (specially the solo, really enjoyed)
- vocals (a bit laid-back, but that fits well the song)
I have also to disagree with Windycity on the mix: maybe there is some room for improvement (easy... there is *always* room for improvement) but I think it is very good.
The only point where I would invest some time if you want is the piano-chords loop: it sounds a bit too "loopy", like if you have recorded a small phrase and looped it over and over.
The song has a nice jazzy feeling and a bit more improvisation on the chords as well could be nice ... or not. It's always a matter of taste :-)
Again: great song!
Ciao, Domenico
PS: You made me curious... I'll go and check your other songs as well.
Thanks for you comments.. I agree with you also the song is really cool. Did not want to over compress it also it is jazz and I wanted a little life into it.
I am a guitar player mostly that tinkers with the piano so that is why is piano sounds loopy. I did my best to try and atleast vary the notes and position and velocity. I do appreciate your comments and really value them.
Windycity's head must be somewhere other than his neck or he's listening to this track on a shoulder held boom box! The mix is perfect on my Studio Quality system! I think this is just another example of jealousy. Also, did I read anywhere in your comments that you wanted help from anyone less qualified than you? I don't think so. Remember, Those who can...Do. Those who can't...put down those who can!
I like this tune- I like the musicianship (technical performance) and the song is interesting. Having said that I feel the mix doesn't do the song as much as it should. It feels just a little bland in the the mix. May I suggest the vocals, bass, and drums need to be louder overall? The lead vocal could use more presence I think in order to stand out and in front of the rhythm section (more volume maybe a little compression). The bass and drums both sound a little faint next to the keyboards (more vol) The keys were recorded at a good level however. I imagine the keys were not recorded using a microphone? ...just a quess.
Overall I like the tune and would like to hear it with more vocal bass and drums in the mix. Thanks!
Although not a rap fan, I really got into the instrumentation on this one, James. Love your guitar work and the piano is great, too. If all rap was like this, I could actually get into it!
First thanks for your comments and I do appreciate them.
So here is my reply.
Yes After Listing back I agree that the vocals could be a little higher / more volume in the mix. But as far as over compressing it, not really my thing. This is music, I wanted some dramatic range on it.
