Hey my friend! The instrumentation is stellar on this track. I'd scrap the male spoken word altogether (except that bit that comes in at the very end), and stick with the girl. It's just enough. The music is so tight and beautiful it doesn't need anything. This is definitely among your BEST work, IMHO!
hey Mykael, thanks for the big compliments!
happy to hear you felt it my friend.
yes Joanna's part is also my favourite moment in this.
i thought about what you said too and almost went through with it.
but then i thought it can seem disrespectful to some vocalists and rather not get too surgical yet without knowing the artist well enough or being able to ask if they're ok with that and not gonna take it personal.
never happened here yet though - how could it with all us down to earth people! xD
in fact now i remember i did already remove a few sung parts, but that was inevitable because of interval mismatching in this harmonic context and re-tuning auto-tuned just doesn't feel right hehe.
again thanks for your visit and the motiavting words!
Awesome track doudei! The tracks very upbeat as a whole. That's a dope beat and great use of Kamoflage's and Joanna's vocals. The mix sounds good too. Nice work.
hey Shatner, many thanks for your kind words man.
it feels wonderful and is motivating to read these kind of things, even more so if they are coming from an actual hip hop expert. much obliged!
I'm generally not a fan of the hip-hops, but this is good. I think it could probably fall comfortably under a couple of different genres. Which is good. It's versatility makes it a more unique tune, and as far as I know, this is pretty unique for what it is. (Like I said, I don't usually listen to hip hop so I'm not too familiar with the genre).
At any rate, good work. I look forward to listening to more of your work.
thanks a lot for this great comment! always nice when people can enjoy music that's outside of their favourite genres or even out of their comfort zone. i like that you said this can be labeled with different styles. trying to fuse unrelated properties of different musical ideals and concepts can lead to interesting combinations. makes you feel a little bit like Mendel, but instead of genetic material there are timbres, intervals, ratios, more ratios and of course cowbells.
but i digress, my apologies and thanks for stopping by! :)
proof that hip hop has come a long way from its origins...I like the rich music mix doudei..the piano is great and those little higher tinkles that come in once in a while really set the mix off nicely...I was surprised to read that you did this on headphones...its a good sounding mix...well done (again).....Ed
thanks for your much appreciated comment Ed. happy to hear the mix is agreeable!
recently i've been using headphones more and more to mix tracks. the most trouble is definitely with the low end energy in most of the mixes.
i would say if you keep using the same headphones all the time and practice a lot, then anyone can properly mix on headphones, granted that they are of a certain quality.
thanks again Ed and have a good start into the new week!
Awesome keys and production bro. So brilliant. Was doing a scat of my own. Great and respectful interpretation of Patricia's awesome vocals. Brilliant!
I didn't think this would be as good as your last upload but that was fairly epic stuff.
This is so different but also good.
I can see why you've put the spoken word vocals in the first 20 secs but I feel they interfere a bit with the strings and other elements going on.
0:22 this main section may have slightly too much percussion. Maybe strip one particular shaker/hat element to make it groove a bit better and give it all a bit more space.
1:02 some weird effects that are fun.
Piano really takes over after that. Cool low notes and it's all bouncing along nicely.
There are some fun little high, cute sounds in this that work well.
2:22 seems to be a bit of a conflict between her vocals and the ethereal string thing. Maybe it's playing a slightly 'wrong' note. I'm not sure. Maybe it's a bit too loud.
This has got some definite character and I don't really think of it as hip hop.
Good summer vibe and fadeout ending works well though perhaps let it fade for 10 seconds longer.
People are going to like this, as you will soon find out...
hey there!
i made this on headphones only and i know i tend to overload things even more than usual because it's a more detailed listening method.
going to listen on different system this week and see if i can improve it and make it a little less crowded like you suggested.
glad you enjoyed and many thanks for sharing your thoughts!
thanks Bear, what a compliment! i do have crazy thoughts every once in a while but musically he's way out of my league. i can't even play basic chords on a guitar.
i would love to learn though, it's on the to-do list!
nice piano playing ^^ would work as good lounge music for having a meal, it's got an everyday feeling to it if ya see what i mean.. yet it could be sampled to make a smooth beat! good job! ;)
well...perhaps ypu know that piano is an instrument I could happily sit and listen to all evening when its played by a player like you doudei...that is some very fine improvisation and expressive playing...enjoyed this one...Ed
many thanks for the kind compliment, Ed! glad you enjoyed it that much. i have quite a stage-fright and am not too comfortable playing in front of other people, but i guess i could make an exception :)
thank you very much! i am not sure yet where to go with this.
if you have something in mind and get inspired please free to use it! i am also happy to assist with integrating additional elements or doing whatever i can to help.
thank you danke!
yeah i am playing - it's multiple takes playing in parallel.
i also did some velocity adjustments afterwards because i tend to smash those plastic keys way too hard, even on logarithmic velocity mappings and especially when doing arpeggios. i regret that i didn't spend a little more for a proper keyboard with weighted keys. in retrospect it was stupid to think i would get used to it :)
cheers man!
Very good track!
Of course the voice of Patricia is outstanding, but you did a superb job in preparing the perfect music for her.
My personal "highlight": the wonderful bass groove. I like the sound and you played it in a special way: it is a synth bass but a lot of the "slides" are really resembling closely what a "real" bass player would do.
Simply wonderful.
Ciao, Domenico
thank you very much Domenico, too kind of you my friend!
it's cool you mentioned the bass, i like this one very much too and i usually spend a lot of time working on the bass. i used to play bass guitar and ever since then i have loved to create bass lines :)
This is a fantastic musical achievement doudei...Its one of those special pieces of music your mind just gets burried in and you hardly notice the special things that happened to make it work like it does...Kudos to everyone involved in the tracking, mixing & mastering process...a really fine piece of work folks...but...having said that...the music still has to be extra good toi be this special...and it is...thoughtfully composed/structured.and..skilfully played...You should definitely take a bow...great job...fav....Ed
thanks for your kind-hearted words, Ed. i am thrilled by them as always. truly appreciate the appreciation and happily take a bow my friend!
excuse the late response, i have been very inactive. i am currently suffering from slightly excessive workloads at my place of employment.
the feedback from all you guys is amazing though and fills me with pleasant anticipation about making music again soon.
cheers!
What a wonderful atmosphere.
This is a beautiful example of how different sounds can be mixed together producing a track that really touches the soul of the listener.
Loved.
