No Worries, thank you Jam.. Hard work definitely paid off, I had a meeting this weekend with a local underground rap legend and he offered me a spot on the production team and his promo team. Fingers crossed that it only gets better from here.

Bassy & bellsy man. There's a big empty space in the middle of this track visual wise but the music keeps playing. My computer's probably having a siezure. This is a rather clean, professional sounding track. Great work.

Thank you. Sound choice really is one of the most important aspects if you're looking to get a real clean and polished sound. That middle space you sense is on purpose, I leave it for the artists voice and choice. If they want to overrule the groove it will allow for it or if they want to just sit in the track they can do that to. I try to paint an image as vivid as I can so the artist isn't concerned with the beat or structure as they try to decide what they want to do. You think I should start making it more obvious that these are beats for rappers? E.g. a more obvious label or name. Because I've had a few different people ask about the space I leave, which is intentional when I mix and master my beat, you can see it on my EQ and channel chains.. everything gets a boost at one point or another usually except the mid, it's usually flat line center or -2db or so.

Thanks Jam.. I would say my last 5 songs I've really finally started to be happy with.. There are a few issues here and there with every song I do, but I think that's the perfectionist in me and I won't ever be fully satisfied. It's been a long road to this point but I'm so close to the finish line I can taste it.

i guess i need to understand the purpose of your production. you are creating backgrounds for rappers? thanks for dealing with my ultimate naivete

    unstableonthetrack
    Reply by unstableonthetrack

Exactly. I'm working on trying to find a sound for myself in my productions so that rappers can do their work on them. I've gotten down into the final stages of my production techniques and now I'm trying to figure out transitions and FX within my productions. Especially transitions from intro to verse and 1st chorus to 2nd verse.

you create lots of subtle background interest which speaks to your attention to detail. a beautiful sounding mix. i understand this to be foundation work, not a finished track.

Thank you.. I've been doing that for a long time, I feel like it helps add more to the song and brings it more character. I'm a firm believer that it's the little details that add up that breathe life into music.

whenever I have a sub too low, I either add an additional or louder kick and then I use a sub enhancer. you can also try adding slight overdrive or distortion. just a thought but I'm no pro. Anyways its a good track still!

Yes, you are correct. You may want to increase attack, compression & high end of the 808 to give it extra punch, but it may be easier to just find other samples (thankfully there are plenty online). The clap also sounds a bit hollow, yet it has plenty low-mid. Standard 808 kit claps would sound more crunk-like.

    Nice mood though

I was actually trying to find an 808 that I could key in to the bass notes and play along with it.. I have a handful of other samples and mixes of it I'm working on but I think a synthesized 808 is gonna be my best route.

Wonderful atmosphere here... but trap drums imho doesn't fit (maybe because i'm not a fan of trap...) on the other hand, however, the overall quality of the audio is exceptional and no sound prevails over the other, so, despite the beat trap, I really like this track!

It's funny you say that about the drums actually.. I was experimenting, I had a buddy of mine who's done a lot of work with Slum Village and in particular J dilla so he's a drum nut.. I apparently had an issue where my drums were too loud, or just hitting too much in the mix, they were too vital to the song.. so this time around I tried to make them lower in the mix and just kind of move the song forward versus break it or anything

Thank you.. That's what I sell.. I sell a very tight feel and a very nice and clear sound.. I can get it as loud and clear and warm as humanly possible without sacrificing quality.

    Hello mate,
Wow wow, what an epic production mate.
The Intro is fantastic and very dramatic it is dying to be in the opening of a great movie.
The beat is out of this world, in fact, it is so good it is on the stratosphere.
The productions (mixdown) is done so perfectly it's like you've hired a major label studio to do it for you.
    Really well done mate.
This is the easiest faves I ever gave to anyone.
    Great Job

I've found that if you can learn the art of proper song arrangement, it just makes certain things catchy, whether someone likes them or not. Like everything else though, it's all subjective. Thanks for the feedback though, I appreciate it.
